Best dog we ever had growing up was too shy to even come to the front of the cage. Turned out to be a loving, sweet boy for his whole life.

This is why i always adopt the dogs that have been at the shelter the longest. All pets need love.

I rescued two cats. They’re thriving now

They are there for part of YOUR life....YOU are there for ALL OF THEIR LIVES....

I’m scared to go to a shelter because I know damn well I won’t be able to turn my back on a single animal there. Walk out with sixty dogs.

That's why I adopted a large, three legged, long black hair, female dog. For some reason people don't want black dogs, female, disabled,...

Long hair. I don't get it.

You may think they just don't like ppl, but chances are they loved ppl very much, and were let down anyway

Is this how extroverts shop for introvert friends?

Janeway was wouldn’t come out at all. I kept coming back to her. Sweetest cat unless her food bowl empty. She will cut a bitch.

Mine was the shy grumpy one. Hid in her cat hut growling. Now if I accidently make eye contact she runs up for pets.

I adopted a brain damaged cat with digestive problems. That was quite a project, and expensive, but still worth it for the 6 good yrs we got

When I was a kid I picked the goldfish without a dorsal fin because I didn't think anyone else would.

Better words were never said.

I can’t go in shelters for very long. It breaks me.

I have two desperate pups that have transitioned into the best little nuggets

My old dog (that passed earlier this year) seemed really aggressive when we first saw him in person. It completely stopped when he was let

out of his kennel. It's like he already knew that we were his family, that he never needed to be scared again.

I adopted a shy one. Took her a few days to let me pet her. A few weeks for her tail to not be tucked. A few months to approach strangers 1/

Thank you, @thisusernameisavailable Your patience and immense heart should be a guidance for others.

My cat was in the shelter for 2 years with behavioral issues. I picked him and he is the best lap kitty now and wouldn't hurt a fly Love him

Our Doris was the shyest of the bunch. No one wanted her. We did. She’s our sweetheart who blossoms more every day.

My mom adopted her first rescue. He had already been returned at least once, after being found abandoned on the streets in another state. 1/

2/ He is two years old. He is the sweetest, cutest little thing. He loves my mom so fiercely. I wish I could find whoever abandoned him.

Also, don't give pets as gifts unless talked about beforehand

My sister was randomly given a poodle for her 21st and 7 years later he was the love of my life until he passed

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah man, just casually gift someone a 10-15 year commitment. Totally cool to do that.

You mean a student loan?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Isn't that closer to 20 to life?

My cat had bald spots, face scars, was missing part of an ear, was in a cage marked "to be handled by staff only" and was named "Mulligan" 1

He now is fluffy as can be, no longer bites and is incredibly cuddly. He loves guests, and follows me around everywhere I go. 2

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Still has the badass street cat scars tough. He's got do much more attitude than any other cat I've met, and I love him. 3

I've been ruined on adoption, and maybe pets altogether. Adopted a blind senior that died in 5 months due to unknown cancer. RIP Gus.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Same. The next adoption was Chance, my visually impaired boy. If senior adoptions aren't for you, there are plenty of special needs pups!!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You probably made those last 5 months the best that cat ever had. Its sad, but you did good.

My brother has adopted 2 of the ugliest dogs I’ve ever seen because he knew it was unlikely that anyone else would ever want them.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same way my daughter gets Xmas trees. Ugliest things you’ve ever seen.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is fantastic ?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah. She’s positively a sweetheart of a keeper!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Instructions unclear. I now own fourty-three rescue animals

5 years ago | Likes 872 Dislikes 0

That's a good start!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It seems you followed the instructions properly

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You've done well.

Serial foster failure, I don't learn for shit. 3 dogs. 2 great danes and a dog that looks like a boxer imposter. She's really quiet.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Together they have a grand total of 9 legs

5 years ago | Likes 158 Dislikes 1

Those 9 leg's name? Benjamin Franklin.
