Has anyone even noticed the government shut down (aside from federal employees)? I say leave it closed, it doesn't seem to affect much.

Leave the government...?

Visited Joshua Tree and Grand Canyon NP last week. Mad Max times over there. Good guy AZ keeping Grand Canyon functioning

Which is funny because the shutdown is over letting too many people in

Don't you mean *explodes in Northern Ireland*

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I don't know what this means, and at this point I'm too afraid too ask.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This is America, you can leave whenever you want.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tell that to the parts of the US who were forced in at gunpoint.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Ok then, that was always allowed.

[If the government shuts down for a month, we shouldn't be paying taxes for that month either]. Change my mind.

7 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 5

Don't reward the anti-government idiots that have been campaigning on government shutdowns for a decade.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

Maybe if we were not using federal reserve notes....

Afair they get three tries before talmannen has to issue writs for a new election. But the business keeps going until then, it's not like US

If you can’t keep the doors open you would lose your job anywhere else.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 8

Trump said something similar before he was president. Now he sees the value of a shutdown as bargaining tool.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What power does he have now that he didn’t have before?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Veto

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The power of cognitive dissonance.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congress is more vulnerable to public sentiment than the president. If public dislikes a shutdown, the house will give in to stop it sooner

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That doesn’t appear to be true, but I guess we’ll find out.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You are legally allowed to leave any time you like, unless you're in prison - which really has nothing to do with the government these days.

7 years ago | Likes 421 Dislikes 12

You're allowed to leave but in many cases you're not allowed to stay :/

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 1

They do not allow me to leave without a refreshed passport. I can only get passports from the government. Checkmate, citizen.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Incorrect. They simply do not allow you to fly or take a commercial ship without one, nor drive through a designated border crossing.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So you’re saying I could swim the Gulf of Mexico as my only remaining option?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Swim, row, sail, walk, glide, parachute, bike, all valid means of exiting the country. Staying in the other country is a different matter.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Define "leave" because they will hunt you down for your taxes no matter where you go and no matter how long you're gone.

7 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Doesn't that stop if you renounce your citizenship?

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

No, actually.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, you have to pay and settle the tax bill. It stops getting worse.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It takes years of paperwork for them to accept it. Would love a Royal Wedding reality TV show called Royal Bureaucracy

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

It is where that American lady goes through the "normal people" process of renouncing citizenship without an ounce of special treatment.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

There's a shutdown in the US? For how long?

7 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

Until Trump runs out of pee in his pissing contest

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

US shutdown is BS bully tactic, it saves no money and they intentionally close services that inconvenience regular citizens

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

All govt. employees are still gonna get paid for this days they didn't work.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Until trump gets his wall-funding?

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

I don't want the shut-down but I don't want wall funding. It is stupid. If they want border security, should go with modern options.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

So until time stops.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 4

untill he caves. no ones giving him the funding. its like the time he begged the mexican president to say mexico was paying.

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

It’s so far been 12 or 13 days. Only 25% is shutdown. Some furloughed, others work without pay. I’m one of the furloughed ones :/

7 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

Working without pay here... historically we are all back-paid, furloughed or not. But who knows with Trump.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

But hey we can afford 5B for a wall right?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How does the work without pay work? Are they legally obligated to do their job and not get paid?

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

welcome to america. trump shuts tge government down for a wall that wouldnt acomplish anything and people have to work without pay

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

not how it works

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

LITERALLY HOW ITS WORKING

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My understanding is that once funding is passed, those who work without pay will get back pay. However I don't know if obligated to work.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Alright that makes sense, I figured theres no way people are putting in 40 hours a week voluntarily and not getting paid

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Plenty of government service jobs like TSA and military have disciplinary measures against them if they simply leave.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People knew who the President was when he was elected, they should have expected things like this. I sure did. Feel free to leave if you 1)

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 8

want, but some of us will keep fighting the good fight.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 9

No one is fighting shit. Y’all just sitting and reading news like lottery.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm not a Trump supporter nor even America but even I know the US gov has shutdown multiple times with different president's. 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

So you can't really just blame it all on him... It's your shitty government in general that's to blame. 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

But isn't the whole shutdown trump's idea? That it's shut until he gets the wall-funding he wants¬ the one government gave&he agreed2 1st

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

No, this time it’s a pretty obvious reason. Govt is shut down because we refuse to spend multibillions on an unnecessary wall. That’s why.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

A wall wouldn't work. They can go under or around if need be. They should increase funding for border patrol and maybe add sensors to detect

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

illegal crossings.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The majority of illegals are people who overstay visas.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just like it was Obama's fault it was shutdown in 2013 for not getting the ACA passed. I assume everyone is being objectively fair here...

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

No? That's the Republicans fault too? Hmm.... Funny how that partisan thinking messes with your common sense logic.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

But ACA was passed. Before 2013, even...

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Obama had about.. one shutdown? This is Trump's third. Obama had two terms, Trump still isn't finished with his first.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

That's fine. I'm not saying he's better. I'm just saying to simply blame it all on the president doesn't seem entirely fair considering.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

He is just using it as a tactic to try to strong arm the government into funding a border wall that we don't need.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

But he wants the blame. This is him refusing to do anything until he gets what he wants, literally, without exaggeration, as stated.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Why, he admitted he would shut down the government if he doesn't get his way. Why not blame him?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

A simple Google search will show you're cherry picking facts and playing a "his half slice of pie is bigger than mine!" game. All these...

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Politician nard-sacks are the same. Obama's shutdown lasted about as long as Trump's combined. Bush didn't have any, and Clinton holds the..

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Record. Who gives a shit? It's all politics and both sides trying to make the other look like the villain. Stop buying into that nonsense.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Apparently, the first federal-level shutdown was one day, the FTC agency ONLY, under Carter in 1980. Government shutdowns in following

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

administrations: Reagan (1 day and 2 afternoons), Bush Sr. (3-day weekend), Clinton (two shutdowns totalling 27 days), none under Bush Jr.,
