For decades now whenever someone has said "There have never been any attacks by orcas on man in the wild" . I ALWAYS replied with "No known orca attacks, plenty of missing people though" .
They didn't stop. It's edited poorly, and then mirrored with the actual event happening about 12 seconds in. The first 12 seconds is a "sweet spot" grab to get you to watch the whole thing and/or for longer from whatever platform this was taken from.

"There we were, partaking in our ancestral practice of artisanal extraction of endangered species from a small skiff with a 75HP Yamaha outboard motor, when all of a sudden..."
Is all this kind of stuff a normal(ish) occurrence we just hear about now because of social media and the like? Or is this because we've properly fucked the ocean and things are starting to go tits up?
So Orcas messing with smaller boats was always a thing. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orca_attacks BUT: while modern technology may help in documenting that behavior, The Orca attacks on the iberian coast are very new. They i.e. purposefully attacked the rudder. So you seem to have Orcas that attack boats regularly. And they seem to share the methods between groups.
Since 2020 there have been over 500 Orca attacks with multiple sunken vessels. Speculations are wild.
Orcas are smart as fuck. Here in Washington in the 80s I believe, one Orca started wearing a dead salmon on its head like a hat. Within weeks, all the other Orcas in the pod were also seen wearing dead salmon on their heads. One whale started a fucking fashion fad and it spread. It's wild.
There's meat in there, alright. That apex predator does not give a shit about someone's "personhood". They dont kill you either because they have something else they prefer to eat, or because you havnt pissed them off too much. Either are subject to change.
Looks to me like they are dropping gill nets into the water - large pink buoys - whales have a hard time detecting them and get tangled and drown. Plus the nets vacuum up all the fish in the area.
I first figured that 'what an idiot, thinking they're friendly' and then realised he could do fuck all, if the were not. I would react the same. They are beautiful and you can only enjoy the moment. ...and maybe not swim.
In those sorts of situations, it's best to remain calm. If you start to panic it'll only make things worse (and potentially make you look like a more appetizing treat). Best you can do is carry on and hope that's enough to not draw any attention.
Acting like prey is the best way to be prey. Want to stay alive, make sure that animal doesn't think you're afraid they'll notice they can eat you. Animals don't want to be injured and will avoid the unknown if you're weird enough or calm enough. I would feel blessed being visited by orcas, if they wanted to eat you they'd slam you off the paddle board before you saw them.
predators attacking other potential predators in their territory is just nature. humans are accelerating the change and for many animals the destruction of habitat, hunting, and spawning grounds, so again, only natural they should be aggressive. My only concern is if people start hunting them down again to slow the attacks
While I'm sure others have realized this. I'll still cheer for the orcas specifically when targeting the rich. Fuck them yachts up. For the rest of the normie humans, nah just be safe lol. Thats some shit you dont want or need.
They started attacking yachts out of nowhere last year iirc. Historically they were oddly harmless to humans, almost like they saw us as friendly. Then something just seems to have changed.
*Orcas attack yachts* Idiots: Yay, eat the rich! Me: You idiots realize it's not going to stop there? Idiots: You're upholding the patriarchy! *Orcas attack other boats* Idiots: But why don't they eat the rich?! Me: Because they're animals, you goddamn idiots. They don't have a concept of 'rich' or 'poor'.
A yacht is a sailboat. The yachts they targeted around Portugal were all travelling under sail. The yachts weren't making noise. If it was just a noise thing, little fishing boats like this would probably be the first targets.
Look, I'm sure if we just ignore enough history, everything will work out fine. Isn't that right, Robespierre? …Robespierre? Now where'd he head off to?
oh if only it were that simple...just look at how the French, Russian, and Chinese Cultural Revolutions saw people twisting those definitions to their own benefit. There is no idealism in violence. Only power.
When it comes to politics and such morality goes to the wayside, in those instances its all about power and getting more of it. Those cultures of the past were all very nationalistic to begin with I don't think that shows that rich vs poor couldn't be the us vs them especially in a much more culturally diverse region.
The point is when violence breaks out, people turn out to be quite flexible on who's "rich" and who's "poor". It only matters who gets you more power and who you can use your power on. It's a civil war. That's just politics with weapons.
Most of the yachts are in price and capacity of a regular camper (2-6 ppl, sleeping in very narrow places). The yacht from poland that orcs had sunken last year was something like that - not necessity, but nothing fancy and certainly not luxurious. Way cheaper than sleeping in hotels. I know this because my dad used to have a yacht, and it was even smaller than modern cheap yachts. Celebrating loses like this is like celebrating mindless destruction of campers, it's vile.
That's a nice way to say 'whaling', in the context of 'aboriginal subsistence fishing'. I can't really blame the orcas for deciding it's their turn. That is a tradition that needs to be put to an end, whether it takes subsidies or infrastructure for other supplies.
A yacht is just another word for sailboat. If you think only rich people have sailboats, you've never lived on the coast. For a lot of people it's one step above living in your car.
Then you have no idea what the orcas were actually attacking this whole time. They are not vigilantes fighting against the capitalist oppressors. They have been attacking mainly small sailboats.
Then you have completely unrealistic picture of the problem. In practice, any sailboat with a cabin can be called a yacht, and it's the small ones that suffer the most from orca attacks. Billionaire super-yachts are invaluable to orcas, so the whole "ha, ha, orcas eat the rich" thing seems really dumb to me.
Nope. You had an incorrect definition. It's a weirdly specific term for something you probably don't do and/or have no interest in. Why should you have known exactly what a yacht is? It never mattered before. Now, you are faced with new information and you can either say: Oh, really? I didn't know that. I guess I learned something today. Or you can fold your arms, stick out your lower lip and yell: NUH-UH!
No you have an incorrect definition. That may have been the definition originally but definitions change. Yacht now means both sailing and powered vessels.
You can check Merriam Webster if you want some kind of "offical" sign off but that isn't necessary imo for a definition to change.
