I have loved every Terry Pratchett book I have ever read. I was first introduced to him by a good friend of mine, I initially read “Good Omens”. Which is a collaborative book with Neil Gaiman. Later, along came “Guards! Guards!”, “Mort”, “Equal Rites”. I couldn’t get enough. When today, at a yard sale I was able to purchase these for... wait for It.... 25.00$. Yup. I almost had a Goddamn Aneurysm. I might be away from Imgur for a while, hope to see you guys on the Discworld!
TL;DR. I got a shitload of Terry Pratchett books at a yard sale, and I’m pretty stoked. FP EDIT: I’m happy to see so much Pratchett love on Imgur. Remember, “Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life”. STP

Just out of curiosity, where do you live, and when are you normally out of the house?

Wait! I see one I haven’t read! How is that possible?! Hard to get physical books for cheap around here so I hope there’s an ebook

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have almost all of them now :) They have brought me such joy throughout my life.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fucking legendary, I'm so happy for you. Pterry was truly a modern Shakespeare in the quality of his works.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What a funny coincidence. Just bought Good Omens the other day 'cause of Gaiman

Personally I like the Watch and Industrial Revolution novels the best.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought they were pokemon cards.

I only read the first two. I can't wait to read ALL the rest.

Post on reddit in r/discworld if you'd like <3

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Few years ago I realised that even though I'd read all the Pratchet I only owned a couple so I ordered them all off Amazon for my bday

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have not read the last book. If I don't read it, it's not over. IT'S NOT OVER!

You struck gold, my dude.

My wife LOVES Pratchett. I have every year for her Birthday and Christmas given her a discworld she did not have yet.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

last year her mother jumped the gun and gave her Shepard's Crown. I held her while she cried for hours that night. Collection is complete

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No long earth? I know some people find them boring, but those books are my ultimate escape. Terry Pratchet and Stephen Baxter. 1+1= 10000000

5 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

I tried, and I wanted to like this stuff, but it seemed like pointless silly drivel.

Currently writing my master thesis on Discworld!

I'd like to read that some time

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love it! What’s your argument?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Afterwards, try Terry Brooks. The Sword of Shannara Series is one of best written fantasies I've ever read.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Robert Rankin.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks! My dude. I’ll check it out.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i have owned 4 copies of Good Omens. I lend them out and never get them back.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've lost 3 copies of Reaper Man the same way. Always good to start the obsession for someone else though.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's how it works with Good Omens. You never actually buy a copy of Good Omens, you inherit one from someone who borrowed one and forgot

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which book should someone read first?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do NOT recommend the publication order. Serious Early Instalment Weirdness. Good starts are Guards Guards, Going Postal, and Wyrd Sisters.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Equal Rites or Guards! Guards! CoM/LF are not to everyone's tastes, and can feel very random and disjointed. The others have better stories.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't do publication order. The author himself said that the first books aren't the best. Start at the Guards series then move to C.O.M.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah but if you intend to follow through anyway, it can be nice to see the early potential and watch him get better and better.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You don't want them to read COM and not like it, then they probably read anything else.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A true genius. There is no one else like him. You know there's a Good Omens miniseries coming out, right?

8 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 1

There's production work on a City Watch series ongoing as well (though it's been in production for several years already, so...)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm honestly not sure if I want to watch that. All the live action Pratchett stuff has been pretty lackluster, imo.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know!! I didn’t believe it. I don’t know who is to play Crowley and Aziraphale. Do you?

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/neil-gaiman-good-omens-michael-sheen-amazon-1202522663/ David Tennant/Martin Sheen, respectively ;)

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Damn perfect casting.. Knew immediately who was gonna play which character.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The perfect guy to play an angel who didn’t fall as much as vaguely sauntered downwards.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

er, michael. damnit. edit buttonnn ppplzzzzzz

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Any particular one you'd recommend for someone who's never read him? He has so many books it's kinda intimidating to pick one!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Start with Going Postal. It’s a great introduction to the world and some of the major characters, as well as being tons of fun.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Guards! Guards! Is a great book to start on. The ones before it suffer from being early works, in my opinion.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'd agree, CoM/LF (basically one novel in two volumes) lacks a good central narrative, lots of fun bits, but oddly strung together.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Wee Free men.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've read them all to death and i would say "the color of magic" gives a great intro to the discworld and its humor. Maybe "Guards Gaurds!"

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If you want to try something that doesn't have so many threads weaving to and from the other books, Small Gods stands alone pretty well.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pyramids does too.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd advise skipping Colour of Magic and Light Fantastic, they're a bit disjointed. Equal Rites, Guards! Guards! or Sorcery are better starts

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Never a bad idea to start from the top, so The Colour of Magic would be a solid choice.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have everyone of his books!

same :D both in hard copy and on my Kindle to take them all with me. Small Gods changed my goddamn life.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This will make for a fine addition to my reading list.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me too!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There seems to be some missing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's an older map, so there probably are a couple missing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Snuff and Raising Steam.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know I shall Wear Midnight was missing from the Witches line

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hooooo i'm keeping this. thx

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Favourite?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nation, it's one of his few non discworld books and it's bloody brilliant.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Death series.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My ultimate favourite is Small Gods, next is Good Omen, and after: all of them! He is a genius!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I havent read everyone yet, but someone of them are very good

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad left me all the Pratchett books (up to 2004) in his will. My mother gave them away after she "lost" his will

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's sucky. I didn't give any of my late husbands things away without letting our daughter and his mother look through them.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's because you're a good person. My mother is an absolute sociopath. 6 weeks after my dad died she was with someone else. 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She was married to my dad for nearly 20 years. They were 1 month shy of their 20th anniversary 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So did you cut her out of your life or just cut her

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damned auto correct. Thank you!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I read them in release order. It is nice.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have the shepherds crown left and I refuse to read it, coz then I'll never have a new prattchet waiting for me.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Tipp from me (as I've read all of his books as well) don't read the shepherds crown... It's not the same and kind of disappoints (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

since his kids had to finish the book. When he died it was an unfinished manuscript. Just feels like the final thoughts are missing :( (2/2)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

My wife refused to get it, and refused to let me buy it for her for this reason.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Coming from someone that works in a bookstore, these covers are still sold regularly

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Used books or new? Cause I can't find these covers new anywhere.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

New at books a million

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah. I'm not American and all the book stores near me have the kirby art.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was Soo happy when these NEW covers came out because of reading the old old ugly ones on the NYC subway. Those covers were so...lumpy.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“old” Ha!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have one and just looked in it. Published 2005 I believe in case youre wondering.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Strange to see these called "the old" ones; in my day Discworld PBs had allcaps University Roman and awkward imitations of the UK covers.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I have most of the Kirby-covered books, like this- http://imgur.com/EKUyjZD

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

That's the ticket!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mine are 90% Kirby as well. The ex fucking HATED having them on the bookshelf because "they looked messy".

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Glad she's called an ex

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tough question, but pick a favorite.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Colour of Magic/Light Fantastic, Reaper Man, Moving Pictures

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Bold choices, and all over the board. You’re a wildcard and a maverick, and I like it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Guards! Guards! "DONT STAND AROUND LIKE A BUNCH OF BOOBIES!"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nice. Vimes is probably my favorite character (toss up between him and young Venitari)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My favorite: Going Postal (my first, so largely sentimental. Though lots of quality Venitari time, and Saccharissa’s fantastic).

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Night Watch

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Wee free men, because using our brother for bait is something my older sister would have done.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I loved all of the Death books the best.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Fair answer. I prefer Death in small doses, though of course I enjoyed “his” books.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

After Death, I think I would have to say the Rincewind books, then Vimes, then the Witches.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We’re almost inverted! I’d be Vimes/Guards, then Moist (heh), Rincewind, Death, Witches, Industry (Music/Movies)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Small gods.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Guards Is like The Godfather and Men at arms is The Godfather part 2. That being said, Reaper man is my favorite.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Aptly put. And another vote for Reaper! Lotta Death fans. I prefer him in cameos when he drops into other books, but still love “his” books.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Small Gods.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That book actually changed my view on religion.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Definitely an odd one for me, which was pleasant. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to grill some sausages for offering.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Always Night Watch. Following Sams growth as head of the watch was fab but he just shines like the goddam sun in this one.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Monstrous Regiment.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oooh, excellent choice! I think that’s a must-read for anybody considering military service...and yes, I’m being serious.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It changed for me over the years. First it was Soul Music, but I came to love Vimes so much my favourite is now Guards! Guards!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ooh, unpredictable first choice! Definitely agree on the Vimes love though.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm honestly not sure I can.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pick one or Venitari burns them all

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ahhhssshit. Umm... err... I... uhh... JINGO! It's Jingo! ... Jingo... ... Can I go now, please?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Of course! You’re free to step trough the door behind you at any time!
