Portugal has a coup that ended a decades-old dictatorship. Operatives from underground left wing parties infiltrated a few branches of the military and started gathering support. I'm not sure how long this took, but a lot of younger officers, captains, were in favour of a coup.
They moved fast towards the capital, while other military groups locked down any pro-regime forts and command structure. Supposedly, it was entirely bloodless. Just an idea.

I'd prefer organized resistance over a coup. They don't need to take charge, they just need to refuse to carry out any of his insane orders and tell Congress they won't comply until he is removed. The military has enough leverage to end this without putting anybody in harm's way, if only they'd agree that it serves their oath to the Constitution.

We would just need them to pull a George Washington and cede control again once a proper replacement government (without all the nazis) were ready. That's the iffy part. If even one general decided they should get to rule, or even just declare a bunch of laws or something unilaterally, it could be disastrous. Historically it doesn't feel like military coups tend to install democratic governments afterwards.

Uprisings of the people where the military stands aside have a *slightly* better track record, I think. But you have places like Thailand, where the military throwing out the civilian government and then they try again is just how they do it.

The US is the lynchpin which keeps North Korea from infading the South, China from Invading Taiwan, Russia from Invading the baltics, Finland, Moldova, etc. without the counterballance that the US provides Europe, Asia, and Africa would slip further in conflict.

China / Taiwan I agree with. North Korea, despite its impressive numbers, has no ability to invade. South Korea. North Korea likes to boast it has the world’s largest army, but South Korea isn’t far behind, and are much better trained, fed, and equipped. All north korea could do is rain artillery shells, but they would lose, and lose quickly. And Russia has been exposed as a paper tiger and is still burning through men and equipment. They wouldn’t make it far, even against a Europe-only NATO.
