Worse GIF ever! Doesn't even have them come close to fixing it or it blowing up first.

He’s hoping it blows up, which it didn’t.

One thing we do know is that it takes more than 4 people to fix it, but 2 people filmed it.

...and both of them filmed vertically.

Drive a screwdriver into the fuel filter and walk away. Grab a couple bags of easy-dri and head to lunch.

Its using the oil as a fuel source

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I get that, and my thinking was pulling air thru the injectors instead of being able to vacuum pull the oil from the sump,= shut down.

Stuff something in the intake before it runs out of engine oil.

Can hit the air filter with a fire extinguisher, clogs the filter doesn’t hurt the engine

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep.. sheet of cardboard over the intake. I've seen runaways suck entire towels inside... Need that surface area..

Looks like it's in the oil patch. Should have a positive air shut off. Flick. Done.

I’ve seen someone use a CO2 fire extinguisher to remove the oxygen, worked pretty well

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That makes sense. Anything to remove the presence of oxygen.

Fuel was shut off. It was running on oil. We were able to kill it just after the clip ended.

Clip link? Location? Some scrap of context? Pleeeease.

It’s my clip, taken at my job site in Northern Manitoba, Canada.

What, no FUEL SHUT-OFF valve????

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 3

I’m willing to bet not one of them is qualified to touch that thing.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

It doesn’t really work like that

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 8

Uhh, yes it does.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Not always.

Runaway diesel is an unknown/unintentional fuel source. Just turning off the regular fuel won’t necessarily help

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It 100% does work like that.

Soooo. Burning oil? What else is there? Coolant? I'd imagine its hard to leak something into the cylinders?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It can be damaged fuel pipes or running on oil from broken seals just a lot of times simply stopping the normal fuel source doesn’t work

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

cut off the fuel....it'll stop

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Unless there is an alternative fuel source- say oil leak in a turbo.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not necessarily. Diesels will continue to run on their own oil under certain conditions.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Blocking the air intake on the other hand is how a lot of runaways are overcome..

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Finally someone who actually knows something about diesels
