Ah yes, doing things to the inside of a computer while it's turned on, absolutely nothing can go wrong.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

On my first computer, a 486, 1st thing I did when I got it home was open it, see the slot they had the video card in didn’t make sense, 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

pull out the card to move it aaand the whole thing turns off. About crapped myself thinking I just killed a 10 minute old computer. Ah 1993

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, ones like that are great

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I guess you never wanted that computer to function normally again...

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It''ll be fine after a hard reboot, unless you break a RAM socket or something

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you have the procedural ability or a surgeon playing Operation you might walk away with only a couple of permanent errors. If you just

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

yank a stick... It's never going to run properly again. Ram is very sensitive like that.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's why you talk nicely to it first. Get it in the mood for a nice psychotic episode.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well I mean, if you're trying to avoid errors and random crashes, maybe just leave the ram installed.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Do you want Digimon because this is how you get Digimon

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

..in which case for the love of God please keep going I want Digimon

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Gotta love how the first Digimon to be born in the internet rather than the Digimon world, immediately decided to nuke humanity.

underrated comment

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anytime Ive ever had an improperly seated major component my computer would straight to BSOD.

4 years ago | Likes 153 Dislikes 2

The bsod message and program will be held in memory, too. Can't display an error message that no longer exists.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

BSOD message screens are a Windows OS feature. This was done without a boot drive, so no OS; no Windows; no BSOD.

4 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

This is on an old os when errors would just nuke it instead of being brought down with a bsod

4 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 0

i mean even the Amiga had it's own version of the BSOD

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

that's not even booted into an OS yet. This is just the bios. (you can see the "select boot disk" message in the bottom left image)

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Newer OSes all mostly have a catastrophic error handler akin to Windows' BSOD, but things like POST BIOS and the like won't. This is

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

definitely POST but not quite to an OS yet.

Wait till you hear of the even more dreaded PSOD (Purple Screen of Death. Vmware esxi.)

Oh man, there was a program that would play that on the PC speaker back in the 8086 days.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Bonsai buddy?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8086 would have preceded Bonsai Buddy by decades. Bonsai Buddy was around 2000, the 8086 came out in 1978.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah cool, TIL, thanks! I actually wasn't sure what was meant by 8086.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a model of CPU, the one that most modern desktop and laptop computers are based off of, although it's many generations removed now. 1/2

I understood the reference, but I did not know how it was pronounced. (I have never actually seen the film.)

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Well you need to remedy that ASAP friend!

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My friend learned to do this & preserve the volatile state of the RAM with like liquid nitrogen or something. He's a cop in comp forensics.

4 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 2

Somebody has downvoted. I wonder who's the evil yet upset criminal here.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

In order to preserve exactly what's currently saved in it? That's neat.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Yup, that's exactly what they do, it's transferred to another computer and then dumped for analysis.
