Go with 9x19 over .45. They have the same overall levels of energy transfer at close range and 9x19 is cheaper / higher capacity (usually).

The choke and overall length of barrel play into it, as does the shot that you are firing. At some point, you do hit diminishing returns.

They do make shells with little discs instead of regulations shot so it does more damage. Sometimes the two are mixed together
