OP Delivers: Check out the Puzzle Game I made!

Mar 17, 2015 3:09 AM

Streak is a simple Puzzle game, inspired by games such as Tetris and Lumines. Right now, it is in it's fifth week of development as a class project, so I wondered if anyone would be interested in playing it and give me feedback.

There's a full tutorial with a 'Normal', 'Hard' and 'Expert' difficulty.

(Sorry, Windows only!)

The goal of Streak is to earn as many points as possible by creating jagged lines, from one side to the other.

I hope to actually release this as a mobile game come summertime, maybe even with a bit of help from Kickstarter. So, any feed back (positive and negative) would be great!

But, you also earn 'Boosts' which destroy all blocks of a specific color. You only earn more every 250 points, so use them sparingly!

If you want to download it (again, it is student work so it is free), here's the link (No log-in needed! Click the 'X'): https://www.dropbox.com/s/nikdo8znqqyrqyk/Streak_ImgurVersion_0-2.exe?dl=0

Imgur helped me create the first version, so I only figure it is fair Imgur gets a crack at the new version as well.

Neat.

Lemme know what you think!

As a game designer/developer: What did you use to make this? And what language?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I needed to use a college's custom game engine/language. The closest scripting language to it would be C#, close engine is Unity.

What do I see here? OC? OP delivering? A cool free game? Just as I suspected... a front page post!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I sure wish... but this won't hit front page :P I just want feedback. All I'm looking for.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yessssss. OP delivered! I was excited and now I get to play. Let's do it!

:D :D :D Thank you! Have fun!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i really love the idea! you should clear ALL coherent blocks, not just the line itself, it would be much more satisfying!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just saw that *you* have a game as well, I'll check it out later!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I tried something similar to that, originally. Problem is that this allowed all surrounding blocks, being the same color, (1/?)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

to make additional lines, and thus the pattern continued until the board nearly emptied.

Must one have a dropbox account to download this?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No. Logged out myself to try it and be sure. Just click the little X in the top corner to make the log-in go away.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well that was quick also jolly good downloading atm I shall return post haste with my findings.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hope you have fun!

WHOA THIS IS WHAT I GET FOR NOT CHECKING MY MESSAGES Geez this is fantastic!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ha! Welcome back! I've got a new version coming out shortly with new stuff/better menu/pause menu!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

YOU DELIVERED!! +1 FOR YOU OP!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you @plusoneforyou! I am honored :D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

playing it right now! i'll be sure to drop the feedback!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Esc" exits immediately, instead of giving confirmation or going back to the menu. Also, I had trouble exiting the demo.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. The pause system is something I'm still working on. It is kinda tough to implement/override as I have multiple layers running, but yes!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the quick reply! Also, the tutorial covers clearing blue blocks, but not red ones; as such, I tend to get reds stacked too high.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The fourth tutorial? The first requirement is to get rid of Red (Pressing A), but I'll have to look into that. Thanks!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some of that is getting the hang of the game, though.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you need to get back to a main menu, just press 'Spacebar' until you lose. Janky, but it works for now. Sorry!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's ok. It clearly states that it's in Alpha, and I've done plenty of Beta testing, so I know what to expect. Feedback, feedback, etc.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Praise it, not a red-green focused game. Hurray for the blue, thank you! Though darn, no Windows. Someday.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry! The engine I made it on is only Windows. BUT... If this game goes well and is fun, I want to release on Unity (Win/Mac/Phones)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If it gets released on Unity someday please do let me know! I'd love to play it, it looks absolutely lovely. I do suggest other colours too!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

More colors (or more specifically, better themes) are what I'm working on for the next week before class submission. But yes!! Agreed.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If I can make a suggestion, universal colour palettes! http://jfly.iam.u-tokyo.ac.jp/color/index.html#pallet

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, this is *perfect*!! Exactly what I was looking for, thank you!! Gonna work this into the next version!
