If anyone wonders what a petulant 3rd grader would do as president, wonder no more. I'm worried about that veiled threat of America will do what it must...
yeah, but I called the 'national emergency shit' n another post awhile back. gives him an excuse to attack canada not just economically. asshat is gonna start an actual war with us canucks.
We'll fight like hell, but Even with the help of the world, this isn't Russia vs Ukraine. An occupation would hurt America dearly, and eventually it would play out. But Canada can't stop the insanity, only Americans can.
"That guy" was a patsy. He was supposed to get on the roof and be stopped before he fired at the president. It was supposed to be a fake attack w/no one actually getting shot except the patsy. Only someone dropped the ball and he got a few shots off before they stopped him.
This narrative makes no sense. I can't imagine Trump trusting anyone with a loaded weapon where the person might possibly pop off a few rounds in his direction.
Well, I don't have any proof, and I agree Trump would never trust anyone pointing a gun at him. So, I maybe wrong, but the photo op of him pumping his arm afterward one of the things that pushed him way up in the ratings.
He has already, and he's gonna say it again, that all of this was 'necessary' because of the TERRIBLE position that Biden put us in. There is nothing, NOTHING they cant find way to spin on blaming Democrats. When you're not bound by reality or consistency of position, literally everything becomes possible. Which wouldn't be a huge issue if he didn't have a cult of dozens of millions of people who will blindly eat it up, if not at first, then at least with a bit of wearing down.
Trump is 80 years old. That generation puts quotes around words to emphasize them. My old boss at my last job did it too. He got mad at me when he asked me to look at the new flyers and what I thought of them and then told him to remove the random quotes in every sentence.
This is not at all limited to the elderly. I see younger people do this too. Then again, younger people have all but abandoned all punctuation, so when they *have to* use it, they just kind of make it up on the fly.
I fucking hate that shit. "Let me get your thoughts on this" and then is pissed about the answer. He didn't actually want your opinion, he wanted you to say he was great.
A trade agreement where it states the Canadian tariffs on dairy don't take effect until a certain amount of US dairy is sold. In no category has the US sold enough dairy to Canada to trigger the tariffs.
At the time we all said the "quota" was meaningless because most milk produced in the US couldn't be sold in Canada in any case. American farmers use hormones and antibiotics that are banned in Canada.
Interesting. That must be what the IDFA was whining about when they stated: "Frustratingly, the U.S. has never gotten close to exceeding our USMCA quotas because Canada has erected various protectionist measures that fly in the face of their trade obligations made under USMCA" https://www.idfa.org/news/idfa-statement-on-potential-u-s-tariff-on-canadian-dairy-products
Every single person sitting on the couch down there crying on facebook and not doing something...should be ashamed of yourselves. At least some are protesting. Why isn't the rest of the country? Getting so fucking sad.
Well you could look at their voting records, or you could just admit that there will never be enough proof to satisfy you and that you haven't ever really followed the news to begin with.
Step 1) Make stupid decisions that will hurt the economy. Step 2) You and your friends buy stocks on the inevitable dip. Step 3) Reverse your prior decisions, wait for stocks to go back up and sell. Step 4) Repeat.
This, they manipulate the market to get rich at the expense of the u.s.a and its regular citizen. And while people say "eat the reach" the rich are currently feasting on the poor.
With Trump in office, the Dow peaked at about 44,800 around January 30th. Since then, his tariff rhetoric and outright destruction of the Federal Government has caused the market to crash by 3700 points or about 7.6%.
He is. There was a thing during his last term tracking large volumes of profitable trades by unknown parties surrounding each one of his spectacles. My guess is either someone with knowledge is profiting from it or it's being done deliberately to enrich others.
Im trying to remeber which you tuber i watched who pointed out that the 250% tariff on US milk only applies after so many millions of gallons and hasnt actually been applied for years because weve never reached that level
Yes, I'm aware that you guys are all painfully, irreparably media illiterate. I keep trying to press on it, though it's impressive that you're actually bragging about it! lol You're basically no different whatsoever to Trump supporters anymore. You've all gone full "Mainstream media is the enemy of the people" at this point, not that you were ever actually reading news to begin with. You were just manipulated into this position by social media propaganda.
Mainstream media IS in fact the enemy of the people.
The corporations and incredibly rich people who own and run the mainstream media do not have any allegiance is to the people of America. In mamy cases they are outright hostile.
There are few exceptions, Poynter, Propublica, etc. that are a quickly fading last line that will not stand.
I think the only reason they haven't (yet) is out of empathy with the citizens in those states who might freeze. When the weather warms to a safer level, maybe they'll re-evaluate.
Hard to predict exactly the level this escalates to, but I dont think it gets to anything like that. I think Trump(or at least somebody on his team) finds a way for Trump to be able to back down while having an excuse that isn't just "I was stupid and wrong". I mean, yes it would make him look weak to any reasonable person, but his supporters are not reasonable people. They will swallow the excuse given to them. It's the great thing about cults.
I’m just worried he’s going to make the threat in the spur of the moment and then feel as though he has to follow through so as to not look weak. The more he purges and puts sycophants in high positions the harder his impulses will be to control.
It's not impossible, that's for sure. They've certainly been trying to normalize talk of annexing Canada and whatnot, even if they seem like empty threats for now. But yea, Trump being a narcissist obsessed with his image does make for a volatile and unpredictable situation if he doesn't have people who can reign him in.
Cut the power entirely and watch Donnie try to invade Canada to restore the resources that he thinks America has the right to beyond any other's claim or rights to it.
The American auto industry is just as exposed - most manufacturers work using a "just in time" inventory model so it's only going to take a few days (at most) before US plants have to shut down.
Actually hurt American workers more due to the "domino effect" of consequences. Hundreds of independent companies make parts/subassemblies for the Big 3. When those companies don't get the Canadian steel and aluminum they build parts with, they and the Big 3 will shut down. And that's just the auto industry. There are way more other industries that will be in the same situation because of similar arrangements with 3rd party suppliers.
Plenty of money in this country. We could tax the billionaires and corporations and do just fine. Not that Carney will, but I guess he at least probably won't give the country to Trump like Poilievre would.
Donny will not cry. Americans will suffer, but Donny won't cry. And Donny won't resign or take any responsibility. I'm not saying this shouldn't be done, I'm just saying no one should expect it to affect Donny or any of his minions.
When his wealthy backers start feeling the pinch, you'll suddenly see retractions, because Diaper Boy 'Forced them to do what he wanted', even though he didn't force anything but another dump in his depends...
Honestly, I've been wondering what the endgame was for his (US) backers. Elon is just as deranged as Donny, so not him, but take Bezos and Zuck, for example. They're also kissing Donny's ass. And yet the whole stock market is going down. Are they okay with that? Are they having second thoughts? Wish I knew.
Not possible to cut it entirely. The power grid forms a complete ring around Lake Erie, with power flowing in both directions as loads and supplies shift. Last time that ring was broken was during the 2003 Northeast blackout, when cascading failures collapsed its functionality. But this will definitely cause more American power stations to be utilized as they will be cheaper than buying power from Canada.
The thing is most of the recipient of Canadian Hydro-Electricity are "Blue States" (Not sure about Ontario Electricity exactly though). We are not punishing the right states. Also If you cripple the US through withholding power you provide the Nazi with the excuse they are looking for to call for Martial Law since it can be taken as a threat to their National Security. IMO
They did, but they were lied to. Still are being lied to. It's mostly an educational issue actually. Which is just a polite way of saying they are dumb fucks for voting trump.
Canada is more likely to wait for a while (in clement weather) before having outages, rather than shutting things down altogether — inconveniencing voters, rather than forcing a statewide health emergency.
No, Canadians would't do that. I don't think... thats more a Texas, USA move. Canadians are more likely to turn the power back on if people are hit with inclement weather, to do the humanitarian thing.
And that’s a stupid move when that aids a hostile nation. It doesn’t matter if it is the humanitarian thing to do. The USA is just as hostile as Russia and Canada needs to behave accordingly.
No, it is a threat that he will invade Canada to make sure the power keeps running. This is what he wants, and the way things are going, it looks like he will get what he wants. If any of the invading force gets injured or killed, he will then wipe us out like Gaza.
I'll fucking die in a field before I let that orange prick onto this soil. And I'm straight up telling you, I'm not alone. I'd rather get Tienanmen Squared with your power than bend over and take it like your entire country has.
Ayup, its not like he actually cares about if people would end up without electricity. Thats still likely going to happen despite whatever measures he promises. Its just an excuse to do more shitty things while blaming Canada or Obama or something for it
First term, I hoped the dignity, seriousness of his office might inspire him to “rise to the occasion” hahahaha. It’s still more awful than I can conceive.
LOL, the relentlessly stupid, rotting diarrhoea-filled colostomy of hatred is damn-near guaranteeing that we no longer get steel/aluminium from Canada! x^D
Step 1) Make stupid decisions that will hurt the economy. Step 2) You and your friends buy stocks on the inevitable dip. Step 3) Reverse your prior decisions, wait for stocks to go back up and sell. Step 4) Repeat.
That is such a depressing thought and feels like these guys would absolutely do this. Imma go crawl in a hole and try not to think about this ever again.
I agree - but stupidity can be addressed by learning and I'm not sure Trump's lack of understanding can be addressed by learning. The best he could do is pay someone clever to sit the test for him.
He's stupid because his privileges have allowed him to refuse to learn, now he couldn't (no matter that he'd never want to) for he's also demented with alzheimer's.
All the media was furiously pushing the claim that the sell off was slowing. Then trump threatened to invade Canada or whatever the fuck he was just alluding to....and the markets went into free fall. Oh well, we asked for this, and boy are we going to get it.
The market as a whole is pretty damn resilient and most institutional investors prefer to see losses limited so it can get back to growth as soon as possible. The fact that Trump is causing so much damage out of the ether is fucking insanity like you wont ever see. The US has the most robust economy in the world, and Trump is single handedly taking a hammer to it for literally no gain of any kind, completely unprompted by any necessity or crisis or anything.
“We” ….imagine our country if Al, Bernie, Hillary, Kamala won. Racists & misogynists would still be quiet for the most part and we could continue to pretend most people are good. (I had no idea so many felt so much hate, over the stupidest sh!!!t)
I didn't ask for this. Fuck the people that voted for trump, and fuck the people that sat this one out because they didnt want a black woman as president. I hope they all suffer immensely.
His supporters are too stupid to care. I know cause one is my step-father and just parrots posts. "Buy American" which I mentioned 50% of our steel is from outside of the US. You need to raw material to build "made in America" products. No reply because they just ignore facts when given them. There is no logic with them and they'll keep supporting even if we were to go to War with Canada. While being in the south cheering on bloodshed when they should be the ones dying for their stupidity.
What would bring jobs back would be getting rid of all the tax loopholes and huge incentives wealthy corps get from taking their businesses to foreign countries. Not tariffs of the goods, but penalties on the companies that take the jobs away.
While I share your sentiment, the richfucks whoi funded trump won't be shy of whatever it takes to fuel their yachts. Now if those burned to the waterline with them in it, I'd shed a tear... that I wasn't there to witness it.
It's fucked up, my grocery bill actually dropped by about 18 dollars. I was really surprised. But I live rural and shop at local farmers and butchers. Except avocados. Those did go up by about 40 cents.
Just wait until the disappearance of price subsidies for farmers and the added tariffs on potash catch up to where you are. Maybe farmhand labour cost increases too. Sure, the price subsidies disappearing will create a nice reduction in prices on the front end, but you are in for a real treat (/s) on the back end when farmers en masse stop being able to stay in business. Dead herds, chickens, and fallow fields don't replenish quickly either.
Oh I know. I just thought it was so weird. Hell, I had to buy eggs from the store and the free range ones were like.. 3 bucks for a dozen? Which wasn't that bad. Added 50 cents to my standard total
Yeah just saying these things are already fucking things up. He doesnt even need to keep his word, he went back on plenty stuff or downright simply didnt do the things he said he would…
These are both empty threats and threats you absolutely must take seriously
I wouldn't call this a free fall. It's more of just absolute chaos in every market. My gut tells me it's intentional and the tariff threats and retractions are market manipulation and insider trading that won't get punished because it's an official act of the POTUS.
Who says it's trump or his minions? There are, in fact, people over him that could easily be handing him playbooks that he barely reads and only somewhat implements and this be one of them for rampant scooping up cheap things.
The fact that thousands of people on every social media platform have proposed it means even if they aren't smart enough, they may have seen it and thought it a good idea after.
Agreed that we (as a nation) asked for this. I feel bad for Canadians though (and Europeans, and Gazans, and everyone else) - they didn't get to vote on whether the US becomes a clown/keptocracy.
I mean, in all honesty, Canada is poised to come out sitting pretty because of this. Some things have become more expensive, yes, but losing the US as a trading partner is opening up new opportunities for Canada to gain new trading partners. We're already talking to China, and some countries in the EU. Canada is stepping into a void the US has made, and if we're smart, we could come out of this smelling like roses.
That guy is an idiot. Our relations with China are at the lowest they've ever been and trading with the EU will never be as profitable as trading, by trucks, with the US. Most of our industries are deeply dependant on US partnerships. I'm not saying we are dead without the US, but saying "we could come out of this smelling like roses" is fucking delusional. The US *can* hurt us. And by the look of it, they will.

It doesn’t matter if it is the humanitarian thing to do. The USA is just as hostile as Russia and Canada needs to behave accordingly.
redsmerf
Take a second read: "in clement weather" is not the same as "inclement weather"
That's why it'd be inconveniencing, not endangering.
ViolentlyJaded
A state of emergency for a surcharge? What? You going to put up wind farms with the Guard? Bring in gas generators? This is all so fucking stupid.
iamgnat
Probably an excuse to build/reopen coal fired plants.
Kingstonboy
No, it is a threat that he will invade Canada to make sure the power keeps running. This is what he wants, and the way things are going, it looks like he will get what he wants. If any of the invading force gets injured or killed, he will then wipe us out like Gaza.
Pepperpete123
I'll fucking die in a field before I let that orange prick onto this soil. And I'm straight up telling you, I'm not alone. I'd rather get Tienanmen Squared with your power than bend over and take it like your entire country has.
Kingstonboy
Dude, I am a CDN vet, I will be there too.
SomeDetroitGuy
Suspended environmental quality rules and bypass state and local environmental restrictions.
Z0op
Ayup, its not like he actually cares about if people would end up without electricity. Thats still likely going to happen despite whatever measures he promises. Its just an excuse to do more shitty things while blaming Canada or Obama or something for it
ElbowDeepinaTinyOctopus
Yeeeeep
TooRexyForMyShirt
He's just so breathtakingly awful.
ghostly69
I think he is trolled by someone telling hiom what to write...cannot fathom such stupidity really exists
Nim449
You can't? Uhhh, have you SEEN humans???
Kablooeeey
Yep. Being more awful than anyone ever believed possible is apparently his super power. Well, that and having tiny tiny little hands.
neverhappytoasterdog
First term, I hoped the dignity, seriousness of his office might inspire him to “rise to the occasion” hahahaha. It’s still more awful than I can conceive.
fivefrozenfishfingers
And repulsive on every level.
noelco
I think he'd invite Putin to the party by promising Russia half of Canada. Russia invades from the north, US from the south.
AbeFromanSausageKingOfChicago
Why does he put electricity in quotes? And it’s hilarious that he tariffs Canada, but retaliatory tariffs are “abuse”.
This is the school bully who gets punched back and runs to the teacher.
Humputse
I thought he said tariffs are great for the economy. He loves tariffs. It's his favorite word. So why is it so bad when Canada does it?
afterdarkart
Thank god we got this, and not the incredibly evil tax credit for new homes, and student loan forgiveness.
rowanem33310
Fantastically worded and aptly put
YuckFuMaga
Dear secret service, let people into the White House. It’ll be ok and better long term for the country.
TZO2k15
LOL, the relentlessly stupid, rotting diarrhoea-filled colostomy of hatred is damn-near guaranteeing that we no longer get steel/aluminium from Canada! x^D
lonosham
Or from here in Australia
TZO2k15
Good, our nation needs to get taken down a peg...
OniTheWolf1743
I always go back to that Kumal tweet lol
CelestialSea
Step 1) Make stupid decisions that will hurt the economy.
Step 2) You and your friends buy stocks on the inevitable dip.
Step 3) Reverse your prior decisions, wait for stocks to go back up and sell.
Step 4) Repeat.
tjturnip
That is such a depressing thought and feels like these guys would absolutely do this. Imma go crawl in a hole and try not to think about this ever again.
CelestialSea
If nothing else it certainly explains why he's constantly shifting his position on tariffs.
LurkingSarcasm
And even more stupid
FinancialRavioli
Quizz25S
It would be funny if he wasn't controlling the most powerful nation in the world.
SheepySleepySmuggler
Is he stupid? Or just incapable of being any better than this?
UncleMartha
Two things can be true at the same time.
Fentex
Whatever else one thinks, he's VERY VERY VERY stupid.
SheepySleepySmuggler
I agree - but stupidity can be addressed by learning and I'm not sure Trump's lack of understanding can be addressed by learning. The best he could do is pay someone clever to sit the test for him.
Fentex
He's stupid because his privileges have allowed him to refuse to learn, now he couldn't (no matter that he'd never want to) for he's also demented with alzheimer's.
Kablooeeey
All the media was furiously pushing the claim that the sell off was slowing. Then trump threatened to invade Canada or whatever the fuck he was just alluding to....and the markets went into free fall. Oh well, we asked for this, and boy are we going to get it.
Seanspeed
The market as a whole is pretty damn resilient and most institutional investors prefer to see losses limited so it can get back to growth as soon as possible. The fact that Trump is causing so much damage out of the ether is fucking insanity like you wont ever see. The US has the most robust economy in the world, and Trump is single handedly taking a hammer to it for literally no gain of any kind, completely unprompted by any necessity or crisis or anything.
neverhappytoasterdog
“We” ….imagine our country if Al, Bernie, Hillary, Kamala won. Racists & misogynists would still be quiet for the most part and we could continue to pretend most people are good. (I had no idea so many felt so much hate, over the stupidest sh!!!t)
BeenisWeenis
I didn't ask for this. Fuck the people that voted for trump, and fuck the people that sat this one out because they didnt want a black woman as president. I hope they all suffer immensely.
PicassoCT
The markets also price in the military industrial complex meltdown
MehEdits
His supporters are too stupid to care. I know cause one is my step-father and just parrots posts. "Buy American" which I mentioned 50% of our steel is from outside of the US. You need to raw material to build "made in America" products. No reply because they just ignore facts when given them. There is no logic with them and they'll keep supporting even if we were to go to War with Canada. While being in the south cheering on bloodshed when they should be the ones dying for their stupidity.
Onebigcanuck
Cousin of mine said similar. "It's gonna bring jobs back." But when I asked which jobs had gone to Canada, he couldn't think of any.
Wyrdbunny
What would bring jobs back would be getting rid of all the tax loopholes and huge incentives wealthy corps get from taking their businesses to foreign countries. Not tariffs of the goods, but penalties on the companies that take the jobs away.

As a poor who wanted better for all of us... i dont care. Everyone can go broke until the world is shared.
PicassoCT
we saw the bakery into pieces, everyone gets a screw, worldhunger solved..
PicassoCT
Decomlexification of society is a call for mass murder of the poor
BDBottom
While I share your sentiment, the richfucks whoi funded trump won't be shy of whatever it takes to fuel their yachts. Now if those burned to the waterline with them in it, I'd shed a tear... that I wasn't there to witness it.
mrthewhitee
I think the markets are more responding to steel, aluminum, and cars/car components and dairy/produce being completely unaffordable now.
BoopScoopZoop
It's fucked up, my grocery bill actually dropped by about 18 dollars. I was really surprised. But I live rural and shop at local farmers and butchers. Except avocados. Those did go up by about 40 cents.
Isosyn
Just wait until the disappearance of price subsidies for farmers and the added tariffs on potash catch up to where you are. Maybe farmhand labour cost increases too. Sure, the price subsidies disappearing will create a nice reduction in prices on the front end, but you are in for a real treat (/s) on the back end when farmers en masse stop being able to stay in business. Dead herds, chickens, and fallow fields don't replenish quickly either.
BoopScoopZoop
Oh I know. I just thought it was so weird. Hell, I had to buy eggs from the store and the free range ones were like.. 3 bucks for a dozen? Which wasn't that bad. Added 50 cents to my standard total
TheAmazingBlahaj
Either way, he is sabotaging things by running his mouth.
Z0op
Yeah just saying these things are already fucking things up. He doesnt even need to keep his word, he went back on plenty stuff or downright simply didnt do the things he said he would…
These are both empty threats and threats you absolutely must take seriously
Ninjainslippers
I wouldn't call this a free fall. It's more of just absolute chaos in every market. My gut tells me it's intentional and the tariff threats and retractions are market manipulation and insider trading that won't get punished because it's an official act of the POTUS.
TrueNorthernLights
Neither Trump nor his minions are smart enough to pull that off.
deadlyJumper
Who says it's trump or his minions? There are, in fact, people over him that could easily be handing him playbooks that he barely reads and only somewhat implements and this be one of them for rampant scooping up cheap things.
firesnake
The fact that thousands of people on every social media platform have proposed it means even if they aren't smart enough, they may have seen it and thought it a good idea after.
Ninjainslippers
Trump, absolutely not. But some of his minions are at least good at making money and manipulating markets.
pangolinx
Agreed that we (as a nation) asked for this. I feel bad for Canadians though (and Europeans, and Gazans, and everyone else) - they didn't get to vote on whether the US becomes a clown/keptocracy.
TrueNorthernLights
I mean, in all honesty, Canada is poised to come out sitting pretty because of this. Some things have become more expensive, yes, but losing the US as a trading partner is opening up new opportunities for Canada to gain new trading partners. We're already talking to China, and some countries in the EU. Canada is stepping into a void the US has made, and if we're smart, we could come out of this smelling like roses.
pangolinx
I hope it works out for you guys, really. I'm having a hard time feeling that optimistic lately, that's on me.
Frankasti
That guy is an idiot. Our relations with China are at the lowest they've ever been and trading with the EU will never be as profitable as trading, by trucks, with the US. Most of our industries are deeply dependant on US partnerships. I'm not saying we are dead without the US, but saying "we could come out of this smelling like roses" is fucking delusional. The US *can* hurt us. And by the look of it, they will.
