#8 remember, big ass trucks have TERRIBLE blindspots.

#4 it's always been wild to me that SUVs, upon their first showing, were known for being dangerous and prone to rollovers. Now Trucks and SUVs prone to rollover are most of the cars sold in the US each year. Advertising is a hell of a drug.

If you live in a place where the temps drop below 30 deg f on a daily basis for months at a time, buy an additional set of wheels for your car/truck with WINTER TIRES/TYRES. They make a HUGE difference and make you and your family much safer.

If you learn one thing from these scenes... Always think *very* carefully about leaving your vehicle when in a potentially dangerous situation. You can't run from something approaching, but at least you're in a metal can designed to resist impacts.

I just got a dashcam a few weeks ago. I drive in Atlanta all the time, and I think the act of getting the dashcam miraculously fixed all of the bad drivers in this town instantaneously. I haven't had a single close call since I got it.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I got a close call recently on my dashcam. The guy behind me was too close and too fast coming into an intersection. I tried stopping on the yellow (yellow means "stop if you can do so safely") and I quickly realized he'd rear-end me, so I had to go through on the yellow. He did slam on the brakes and barely stopped at the stop line, so I was right.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's exactly what yellow means. It frustrates me to no end when people treat it like, "oh speed up to make it!"

#3 what does that caption mean? 8 lives left thanks to the cop..? What?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Right? I was wondering this too, but couldn't find anyone else in the comments until you xd

There's plenty of bad things that cops do and that they should be criticized for, but what was wrong here? The only improvement I can think of is having people get out of the car and standing on the other side of the guard rail as a matter of policy, but getting people to come out of the car is maybe problematic for other reasons

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't even know what the caption MEANS lol. Who has eight lives?! Was this meant to be a cat?! It's wild

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The camera car? Couldnt do a whole lot at that point. Going from 60-0 in a situation like that isnt easy

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

No, but with the line of traffic ahead of them, they should’ve been facing going from 25-0, not 60-0

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Might not have seen it with that big white SUV in front of him. Ive been caught out plenty of times (not that bad) with a big van or truck in front of me blocking the view of the road. The white SUV has no excuse though

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He was too close for his speed. You should always drive with enough braking distance to stop, if the thing in front of you suddenly stops. He BLEW past the white car, which means he was too close and too fast.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braking_distance

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

#1 "wherever the car stops, you park mate". Even with proper winter tires, driving that road is bad. You should just leave the car and hope you can get it back later.

1 year ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

All credit to the guy, that was some decent control whilst he was basically a passenger

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Had to do that a couple of winters ago. Left work in the middle of a storm, had to go on all kinds of crazy backroads because the highway was not moving due to accidents, and less than a mile from home there was a hill where I just couldn't get the momentum to climb it.

After sliding down it a couple of times I just had to leave the car in front of someone's house, walk the rest of the way, and go back for it in the morning after the way was plowed.

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

My favorite question to ask in these videos is "did this guy even need to be out or is the coffee at home just not appealing enough when it does't cost $4?"

People would rather be anywhere but home which forces all the people who want to be nowhere but home out to work and we wind up with so many more cars on the ice and all the pileups that come with it because "I'm booooored"

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

The one time I got stuck in snow it's was because I was in a meeting at work, and despite me saying several times that I had to leave bc of the weather, the person in charge would not let me leave. Wound up at the bottom of a hill spinning my tires for 45 minutes. Leaving the car wasn't an option, bc there was literally nowhere to go. So sometimes it's people just trying to get home

Never ceases to amaze me, that in a country where it snows every winter, there are still people that stand on the brake pedal , lock up the wheels and expect to remain in control.

1 year ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

/2 On closer inspection, the badge is Suzuki, and digging further into the taillight/headlight situation - that's an NC (2018+) Suzuki/Toyota/Maruki Ertiga and all variants have ABS as standard equipment.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Standing On The Pedal is the correct response. Has been for a whole generation of adults.

ABS has been mandatory on every passenger vehicle sold in the EU since July 1, 2004, and "sold in the EU" meant that putting ABS on every car and van was most cost efficient.

The typical lifespan of MY2004 vehicles in the EU was 10-15 years. Less than 1% of passenger vehicles on the road in snowy climates lack ABS.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Negative. You can see the result in the video. All the wheels lock, and as far as ABS knows the vehicle has stopped and isn't moving. There is no input to prompt it to unlock any of the wheels.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude how old are you lmao

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I believes it is the fight/flight/freeze response kicking in.

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

We all know what it is, as I say, in a place where it happens regularly, it should not occur because it’s not a new thing and experience should prevent it. Yet it doesn’t.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I doubt those country's driving instructions are as bad as the USA's is as well. Where we basically don't have one.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Assuming they got ABS, which it'd be weird if they didn't, they can indeed just stand on the brake pedal. It won't be as effective as on a normal summer road of course, but it will brake the car as best as possible instead of merely locking up the wheels and losing them all control of the car.
Of course, even the best braking possible will only help a certain amount, they still need to drive extra carefully in the first place.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

And does jack shit when it's slippery like that. ABS locks the breaks, let's go, locks them again... Nope.

There's no good system that never locks them in the first place outside of the driver controlling it by feel.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

If they had ABS, the wheels wouldnt lock up. They are, so they haven’t.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

Can you even get a car without abs? Does abs matter if your tires don't have traction?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's a 2018+ Suzuki/Toyota/Maruki Ertiga. All trim levels in all markets come with ABS as standard.

idiots. they're everywhere.

1 year ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 1

I almost got taken out like that just last week. A last second mirror check before I turned was the only thing that stopped a transit van doing at least 80mph from slamming into the side of me. I immediately pulled over and cried.

1 year ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

Correct take. Last time I had a car interaction that emotionally compromised me I promptly endangered myself.

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Had that once on a scooter. Little 50cc thing governed to 50 km/h (31 mph). It was like 9pm, streets were empty. I was on the main street in my home village, turn signal on, preparing to turn left onto my home street. Suddenly this idiot of an Audi driver overtook me at well over 100 km/h, half a second before I initiated my turn. If you're inside a built-up area in Germany, speed limit is 50 km/h. Crazy wanker. If I hadn't been watching my mirror I might've died.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Also, for any Germans reading this and wondering... yeah, the scooter was limited to 50 km/h rather than the standard 45 because it was built and permitted in 1991, before the 50cc limit was reduced to 45. It's grandfathered in and allowed to go a bit faster. It also had a mechanical speed governor, and me being a scrawny beanstalk, it didn't get enough weight on the wheels so it actually went like 52-53 km/h... completely legally without any tuning. That's why I bought the thing, obviously :^)

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This is Poland and IIRC, police was to blame as they should have checked the mirror before changing lanes.

1 year ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 9

I feel like a person shouldn't be passing that many cars at once in the opposing lane. They have some of the blame here, if not most of it.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It looks like the police car meant to block them from passing...

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's messed up there's no double line there saying "you cannot pass"... They should be at every intersection...

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

mirror check would have prevented it yes but if you are overtaking a line of cars at speed like that then sorry the you are the idiot and must carry the blame for the incident. This was not a dual carriageway... the idiot was overtaking using the oncoming traffic lane so the cop would have just been checking for oncoming traffic not someone flying up behind him

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Ok, found the article in Polish https://moto.pl/MotoPL/7,88389,31241347,wyprzedzal-i-wjechal-w-skrecajacy-radiowoz-sprawa-trafila-do.html but to sum up: the court decided that the police was to blame because they were too far from the middle line; when you change the line you must "be especially careful" and they were not and you must give a way to any car that is moving on the lane you are about to enter. So yeah, reckless camera guy for sure but not guilty according to the court.

Thanks mate

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Interesting. Thanks for the info.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A mirror check *might* have prevented that, but the fault remains with the camera car IMO - because of the speed alone at least. I don't know the traffic laws in Poland, but where I live, the camera car would have violated quite the number of rules even before hitting the police car and without the slightest question would be found guilty.

1 year ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 3

Not guilty in Canada from the looks of it. In passing lane, no oncoming traffic, markings on road allow for passing, not breaking speed limit. Also, doesn't look like the police car was signalling but hard to tell with that video quality.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Uhh, yeah. Camera car is in the wrong side of the road overtaking, not illegal, but right of way goes to the car turning for sure. Otherwise the car would never complete the turn because everyone behind it should be overtaking them. Lol

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

Depends on jurisdiction. Here the police car would have been at fault as that sideroad isn't considered big enough to be a crossing and he was blocking overtaker.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Seems odd to me. Especially cause the overtaker should have observed all the traffic braking and taken that into consideration for his speed and awareness

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really? Why? (Except from the speed). Good visibility, proper stripped line on the road, no sign not allowing passing other cars. That's the honest question to become better driver. Maybe I forgot some law that I should know.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Reckless driving, you cant see whats going on in the front of that queue

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mostly all over Europe (don't know the Polish law though) the car in front going the same direction always has the right of way to go where ever they are going. The car coming from behind always has to yield. In Finland the fault is usually like 99% of the time determined to be on the person who rear ends, even if the car in front suddenly slows down or turns without visible reason. The rationale I think is because cars always have poor visibility backwards so it's safer that way.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah so like mentioned before, passing multiple cars at once is illegal in many places and dangerous everywhere - you can see and predict what 1-2 cars in front of you are doing, but thats about it. Same goes for them, too: I can observe the car behind me, but everything further than that is a blind spot.
Second: overtaking a bunch of cars (or even just one) that are currently slowing down is a no-no, because there must be a reason why they are getting slower. Speeding up yourself to pass >>

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

>> those cars is a 'hold my beer' move and we generally try to avoid those, right?
Third: the cam car voluntarily left its own lane, which is not illegal, but puts the driver in the position of having to be 1000% extra careful, because thats the lane where cars drive the other way. That driver wasn't careful in the least. For example: the spot where the police turned left was a piece of road. A car coming from and turning right would check left for cars, not as much right for overtakers.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Afaik also in most of Europe you can't pass an entire line of cars like this. One car yeah, five in a row not so much

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Aye, you need to ensure proper visibility and such, and exercise common sense. If there's an intersection, you have to expect that someone might turn left. Overtaking in that situation is very stupid. I don't know much about Polish law, but here in Germany, any court would put 100% of the blame on the POV driver and none on the police officer. While you should of course always check your mirrors when turning left, the officer still didn't have to reasonably expect anyone to overtake them there.
