He seems like every person I'd hate to be stuck with.

Resident of Corpus Christi, we buttoned up and lasted through the hurricane. 20-30mi. North of where I live were obliterated. (Port Aransas, Rockport) We were very lucky the hurricane took the path it did. We have not had power for about 48hrs, which means bags of chips, protein bars and cold showers. (Not bad in the muggy Texas aftermath).

But opportunists in the time after have since began looting in the area, a woman down my parent's street came home to find someone in their house helping themselves to what they could.

Relief efforts have already begun with Texas Military and National guard working with our local AEP and utilities dept. to restore power.

Imgur was great throughout the storm, be safe everyone - help out your neighbors and protect yourselves against those that wish you and your loved ones harm. God bless Texas.

EDIT: I appreciate the kind words everyone! We're all safe here, if you can please direct any aid to the Rockport / Port Aransas and HOUSTON areas. They are and will be the hardest hit. Families will be displaced, business have been razed. Humanity will be what gets us through these trying times. We all must be able to lean on each other when we have instances such as this. God Bless everyone involved - I pray for the homeless animals and animals abandoned by their "owners".

Take a minute to hug your loved ones and appreciate the things you have, Wednesday of this week we thought it would just be a little rain from a tropical storm - when it made landfall it was a Category 4 with sustained winds of +120MPH. Your situation can change in a blink, appreciate what you have even if it's not much.

Love you Imgur.

good on ya brother. as someone who is living in western montana watching looters during fire evacuations... get'em hoss!

Tell me again how Americans shouldn't own weapons since "the police will protect us".

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I don't even live near where it hit I'm in SA and I saw trucks drive by slowly through our neighborhood yesterday... sketchy.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

You call them in?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My grandfather in Texas always had a giant sign on his windows saying "Dear robbers: Nothing inside this house is worth losing your life."

Proper footwear is important during an engagement.

Stay safe my fellow Texan! Many prayers from San Antonio

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Y'all stay safe too man, a lot of my buddies went up there - I know y'all are getting some rain too. God loves Texas, we'll all be okay.

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

And an impressive defense team. Awesome battle bud. Stay safe!

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I have a AR pistol with just a tube. I'm really surprised the ATF allows them, but they come with an ATF letter saying the're legal.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a non-american, which states have the loosest regulations? Or are short-barreled firearms regulated the same US-wide?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I believe SBRs are at the federal level. You need to get a federal stamp, pay for a background check and get finger printed.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thanks brother.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

The "zombies" will be in full swing overnight. Rest up while you can.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We also spray painted "You loot we shoot" on a board in front and back of house. Since can't cover all areas at once. Good luck.

I did this during Ike. No power for 3 weeks. The neighbors and I patrolled the hood and cops would check with us if we needed anything.

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

Hell yeah brother, way to be.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Good on ya, looking out for your neighbors. We need more of that in this world.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

My neighbors suck

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You mean people actually loot others destroyed houses? WTF is wrong with people

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Oh you sweet summer child

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I'm Swedish so I am dpnt really know how it works down in Texas

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Despite the fact this conversation context could quite literally be the worst time to say it: come visit us :) we'd love to have ya

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I have been to the US plenty of times, but I guess I never saw the true side of society. But America, get ready for me in December!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

DA said that people caught looting would get automatically prosecuted.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

If they survive.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To the fullest extent of the law, also parole would not be an option or any plea deals.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

That's good. I haven't heard any of that in Rockport yet but fuck those people nontheless. They deserve to get shot for looting.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Don't need to prosecute a dead looter - saves $$ too.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

In these cases it's more fitting to say the looters will be prosecuted by an automatic. Castle law works wonders in simplifying these things

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can't even imagine being dumb enough to loot in Texas. Everyone is armed!

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Not quite everyone, but we're working on getting there :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most people are gone because of evacuations. Easy to loot empty neighborhoods

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Even the looters?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Give them hell !!

It's a pistol. ????

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Yes it is. He has the wrist support on an AR pistol.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

When you are well armed there is no need to chase anyone.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Killed by man in socks and sandals - what a shame!

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Death isn't always in a cape carrying a sickle. Could be a little Filipino in chanelas armed to the teeth.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Right on. And still less shame that be killed with .22lr bullets.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks like the start of every bad zombie movie too. Making Red Cross donation and praying for y'all.

8 years ago | Likes 648 Dislikes 13

If you haven't already donated, consider a different charity and more of your money will actually be used to help people.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The Red Cross claimed 91 percent of all donations went directly to charity. ProPublica and NPR found that in 2010, only 60 percent did.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The remaining 40 percent of donations funded Red Cross program management and overhead costs.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hey, giving away other people's money is tough job.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anybody got a better national charity for this guy than the Red Cross? I'm still angry about how they handled 9/11 donations, 16 years later

8 years ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 6

Or any disaster they have taken money for. Katrina to name another

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They pissed off a lot of people where I live too.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please look for charities that are helping in Houston / Rockport / Port Aransas. They will be needing the most help. Thank you all.

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

Best bet may be finding a way to send money to the local fire departments/police/ambulance services. Helps them restock on supplies, food,

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Water, and, of course, their vehicles still need gas. So helping them would go a long way, both short and long term.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good luck to you! I'm sure you'll be safe, your buddy will take care of that

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Salvation Army. During WWII the Red Cross charged soldiers for pencils, paper, and stamps. The Salvation Army did not, and helped with food.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Ugh, no. Salvation Army is a terrible organization.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

In terms of disaster relief, they're far, far, far better than the Red Cross. SA showed up here after tornadoes with water and a food truck1

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Yeah, but their discrimination and slave wages of disabled people isn't so great.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I dealt with the Red Cross for tornadoes here and a microburst that blew my roof off. They're assholes. They shut down churches providing 1

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hot food to victims when they finally arrived five days after the tornadoes (because they spent time in Tuscaloosa with the press) and 2

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

shut down the shelters for those who lost their homes. Then gave people $150 per person for hotel and food expenses.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Refresh my memory on that please?

8 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

A first responder told me that their tent was set up about 15 blocks uptown from the world trade center, and they were handing out coffee.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Collected tons of donations after 9/11, used the majority of them to upgrade their own offices and facilities. I only donate locally now

8 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 1

That's how I feel, you just can't trust big donation centers

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks. I normally donate a little every time to them each disaster. Mostly because I see the ads. Will look closer.

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Yeah your effort is way more than most, but in times like this it's important to donate to charities who will make the biggest/best impact.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

charitynavigator is a good website to see what a certain charity spends its money on and how they're rated.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

It sounds odd but the LDS church is normally one of the first couple groups on site and if you donate to them you can state where you want

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Lets go looting....in Texas. Best idea ever. It's not like Texans love their right to bear arms and use them if necessary

8 years ago | Likes 178 Dislikes 5

I mean, that just means there's more guns to loot!

They don't have to be a hippy. Most other nations have bans on fire arms and pocket knives. They could just be foreigners.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 12

Like the crime free European countries. How's that working out?

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 8

A hell of a lot fewer mass shootings.... So pretty well so far.

Coasties know not to mess with hurricanes. But once the wind dies down...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Texas military" bout sums up the texan mentality.

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 3

Hey, idiot. The "Texas State Guard" is NOT the "Texas National Guard". They are two separate organizations.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

... How to offend a special Texan snowflake in 3...2...1...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I would have said the same thing about Michigan or Washington. Get your facts before you hop on your high horse.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Who needs the US army when you got the rangers?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Look up "Texas State Guard" they really have a military

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Technically every state has a National Guard but that's besides the point. E.g. Here it's the Indiana National Guard not Indianas Military.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No Texas State Guard is its own entity... They assist the Texas National Guard https://tmd.texas.gov/state-guard

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Damn looters... Those people suck.

8 years ago | Likes 1025 Dislikes 6

Side note. He's really fucking good in 'get shorty'

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They should suck for air after they have been shot

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

I plan on it.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

They're not people.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Shoot'em in the head, conserve ammo. They are likely carrying none to resupply.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

Warning shot at least. That's how someone's grandson gets killed when they just visit their grandma to make sure they are okay.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Most coastal states have included looters in there defense of self and property laws.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This was the official national policy of Great Britain during WW2. It was very effective at discouraging looting during bombings.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Be careful about shooting invaders in your home. If you kill them, be sure the entry wound is on their front side. If the court decides 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

you killed the person without warning them to get out, you could be looking at a manslaughter charge. Or at least shoot them in the kneecaps

Of all the states, Texas is the last one looters should think breaking in is a good idea

8 years ago | Likes 908 Dislikes 4

and you think looters don't have guns ... because ?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

People are stupid everywhere

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but the looters are probably Texan, too. I mean, I agree with you, but still.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

You'd be surprised, during the Ferguson riots the looters were from out of town, I believe some were from as far as Compton, CA.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

In Texas you can legally shoot & kill anyone attempting to take an item of value from your property. Worst state to be a looter in, I'd say.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Ahh, but most of the looters are also from Texas. They've trained with their weapons and no desk job fatty is gonna get the jump on them.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 32

Greed knows no bounds.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Implying looters "think" well, or at all for that matter...

8 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 1

It would seem if they are looting afterward, they did not prepare ahead of time.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Last hurricane, people in cul-de-sacs banded together, blocked off the entrance and only let people that needed to be there get through.

8 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 0

during hurricane Katrina the national guard was blocking our neighborhood holding m16's and checking ID's, it was surreal.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It's my dream if there is a disaster to make forts out of neighborhoods with snipers and patrols and everything

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 3

It's a raw deal. She shouldn't have to shoot than deal with the body and paperwork

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

This happened in the late 1940's in a small town. She was honored with a nice write up in the local paper.

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Guns are just as much of a deterrent as they are an incentive for breaking in.

8 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 71

yeah, fuck yeah. I'm totally with on this one. fuck off, other guy.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Guy &his town suffering and ya'll are bitching at a comment walkingtallmachinegun made. Maybe ask for clarification before you show your ass

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

How can this be true? Information about the gun collection would have to be known prior for it to be an incentive.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

Okay? The neighbor sees you loading your car for a trip to the gun range. Tells his friend about the crazy gun nut next door. Incentive. 1/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

At this point youre arguing case by case schematics.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Just about everyone in Texas has a gun collection. It's mandatory. They even check when your register you vehicle, the cost is inversely

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

proportional to the number of guns you own.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

who's a good little parrot

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 30

They're kinda right. Guns get stolen a lot and can be sold for a lot or used yourself

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

would you mind proving that 50 percent of robberies where the HO is armed are done with the foreknowledge of, and intent, to steal guns?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

http://wreg.com/2017/07/14/gun-collection-stolen-from-memphis-officers-home/ idky it has to be your very specific criteria of 50% but 1/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The fuck are you talking about? I have a gun collection worth a small fortune. If anyone had incentive to break into my house it would be 1/

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

My gun collection. I wasnt regurgitating some anti gun nonsense, I was saying guns have value.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

How the fuck is this an unpopular opinion? My gun collection is the most valuable thing to steal from my home. So would say, if someone 1/

8 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 9

looking to break in for a quick buck knew about my collection they would have "incentive" to take my guns.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 6

Maybe it's an incentive if you keep going around telling people you've got an expensive gun collection in your home.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Address?

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Based on everyone else's reaction, giving you my address would be safe, seeing as how me having guns would prevent you from stealing them 1/

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

People are reading it and think you're being anti-gun rather than practical and honest.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

At an abandoned home your statement is true. At a home where people are it isnt incentive at all.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

You mean like a house left behind while evacuating from a hurricane? The context the comment was made towards originally? Like that?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

No thinking allowed when facing a statement that could possibly conflict with their beliefs, knee jerk reaction all the way.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

I guess. Its not a matter of belief that guns are valuable and can get stolen but I guess they can ride the bandwagon.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Because most people don't broadcast info about their gun collection, if people don't know it's there then it's not an incentive.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

The circumstance to which someone figures out so and so has a collection wasnt my point. If it becomes known via FB, the range or just a 1/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

loud slip of conversation near the wrong people, you then get incentive. Homeboys got guns, I want them. Any other specific use of word 2/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4
