Running a prison or winning a billion dollar drone contract no longer requires experience.
ICE just awarded $426 million to two firms with little or no detention experience to convert warehouses into large-scale holding centers. Neither has ever run an ICE facility, and they'll now be responsible for thousands of detained migrants as part of a $38 billion buildout that includes centers holding up to 10,000 people each.
That casual disregard for competence extends to the Pentagon. Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump are backing a new drone company targeting $1.1 billion in Pentagon contracts that exist because their father created drone initiatives and banned Chinese competitors. The company and its CEO have never worked in aerospace or defense, just like the detention firms have never run a jail.
The government bypassed its own contracting officers to award the detention deals without competitive bidding. Firms with decades of experience said the timeline was too aggressive. Access, rather than experience, is the new price of admission.

#1 Tell them previous Presidential administrations did more to protect American muslims caught in surprise combat zones than this administration did for americans caught in surprise combat zones created this administration

#16 I'm sure mad at Hunter Biden making $700k/year from ANOTHER country's money.

If you voted (or even if you didn't vote) it's past time to back it up with your presence. Hit the street: https://www.nokings.org/ .

(2) labelling any other country as a ”state sponsor of wrongful detention" is highly ironic.

#1 That comment should make Rep Ogles unfit for American society much less a representative. Not to be too flip but a Republican with the last name Ogles, someone check his Internet history.
ImmatellallyallboutFightClub
"Casual disregard for competence" is such a poetic way to describe the current leadership.

Happy brat cat actually smiling and purring herself to sleep. Pic taken while catching up on yesterday's horrors. Thanks as always for your service!

I'm glad that you caught that phrase too. I was proud of it. :)

There is only one Judge in Oregon that was appointed by Trump but even she has ruled against him... We have some good Judges here.

Speaking as someone who will likely NEVER visit the former "United" states of america ever again... How are these criminals still wasting oxygen????

Because no one stops them.

Because the system had enough loopholes to be exploited.
And to be honest, we've been making the wrong choices about extremists since the end of the Civil War.

#2 He's just jealous they're gunning for 1st Place, when it's clearly ours.

I was truly shocked that newscasters didn't realize this line and just stare at the camera.

These news briefs are getting depressing. Nonetheless, thanks for the update!
pandemicmodedad
This has been depressing for over a year. Great source of info though.
GeorgeBounacos
Thanks both -- glad it's meeting your needs! :)

The TV news spends msot of its time on the same few stories, day after day, because it's cheap and it gets views. But your govbrief.today site graphically shows, in one minute, how many fronts there are in this ongoing assault. Almost every one of these freakish nightmare stories is worth its own posts. I hope you don't mind that I sometimes repost these on other social media to bring attention to the stories and your site.
GeorgeBounacos
I'm very glad to have you say that. It was exactly why I started doing this. You have carte blanche to post anywhere you would like, and my thanks too!

BTW, I'm a technical writer if you ever want help with it. :)

#13 So they use places not made for human habitation and turn them into prisons, using companies with no experience in that field. I'm sure nothing will go wrong, mostly because suffering and death are clearly the intended outcome.
GeorgeBounacos
Those horrible concrete slabbed floors and wide spaces will be too hot, too cold, flood, and be disease vectors. :(
Jmarie453
Detention centers getting built by incompetent people is not a mistake, it's an outlet for future blame.
When citizens are detained, when diseases break out, when deaths and assaults occur; they will have a scapegoat and an excuse.
It lets them play stupid and wash their hands of any inevitable complications or consequences.
i.e. "We trusted Toys-R-Us to fortify our missile defense and well, we just don't know what went wrong"
hereforthememes420
Plausible deniability. Instead of negligent homicide or willful neglect, all the blame will fall on the contractors (who are surely bootlicking benefactors of a bloated contract value), and ICE/DHS will say they didn't know. Some of these nazis aren't as stupid as people think. Just like the layers of Iran, there are layers of grift to the immigration agenda as well. Trump's sons will provide drones for security & surveillance at these camps, with their shiny new Pentagon deal. Fuck.

Not enough LEGO, is what.

It’s also another embezzlement scheme.
sfrinlan
Looking at anything Trump and Co. do, there's always an embezzlement scheme in there somewhere. He doesn't consider doing anything that doesn't enrich himself.
GeorgeBounacos
Couldn't agree more.

#1 So how is a Muslim immigration ban supposed to work? What's the litmus test? Offer them pork? What if they're vegan Buddhists or Greek orthodox pescetarians? Or Muslims who don't care for the no pork rule and would happily munch some bacon. They exist too, just like Christians who have extramarital sex or don't love their neighbor. Unless this ban is code for "no entry for Middle Eastern looking people", there is no feasible way to enforce this. (Plus it's unconstitutional).
PuzzledCompletely
Ogles doesn't care, he just wants attention.
defensivebackhair
Ogles is just serving his master, Netanyahu. Spreading Islamophobia so he gets more people to go die in Iran
Hatlled
Offer them pork?
I'm a non believer/ atheist. I AM ALLERGIC TO PORK. It goes on through like the Death Star laser.
It does, however have the anomalous effect of making me pray... mostly for death. :/

Cold!
GeorgeBounacos
wow - that lasted way longer than I thought it would!
cytherians
Thanks, @GeorgeBounacos. You've been doing a great job... but wow... I never thought it would get this bad.
Republicans actively pushing for "No Muslims in America"? They're so bold, their racism is no only on their sleeves, it's on their foreheads too.
And WTAF... NEPOTISM CORRUPTION in our faces. Trump family members investing in a drone company that, ends up with a Pentagon contract. This is so effing egregious.
GeorgeBounacos
To be completely honest, I never thought that we would reach this state either. And today made me feel worse when Speaker Johnson refused to condemn the attacks. :(
cytherians
Speaker Mike Johnson is totally compromised. I don't know if you're aware of this, but before he was drawn into the spotlight as Speaker, as a "regular" Congressman, he was one of the House GOP to actively work on trying to overturn the 2020 election. He may have also had a hand in the fake elector slates scheme.
GeorgeBounacos
Oh yes, absolutely, but a great point to keep in front of people. Sometimes he just spews nonsense, and I look at the screen and mumble, "You're an attorney. You know that's not true." Those are the ones I loathe the most (looking at you, Ted Cruz)
cytherians
Can you imagine? I mean... excellent law schools. Those institutions teach legal ethics. And yet people like Johnson, Cruz, Vance... they graduate and go out into the world lying like it's some kind of sport to be proud of winning.
Speaking of Cruz, this schmuck is back to blaming Biden again!: /gallery/4Q4Ekim
