Got the call yesterday from my mom that my brother tested positive for covid yesterday. We were all together at Christmas time . She was crying because my brother probably would not do well with covid. I was upset but did what I could and took the rest of the week off( I do not work Mondays). I wake up this morning to see photos of MY PARENTS, at a football game, hugging all over members of our family that weren't at the Christmas get together. Not a mask in sight. Smiling like nothing was wrong and they weren't potentially spreading covid to others. I am so livid. This is why we will never get ahead of covid. Gets tiring being the only responsible person around. Sorry for the rant. Just needed to vent.

Just a few follow ups. They knew about the positive test before the game. Also my mother has a huge mouth and I am 100% certain she let them know he tested positive. They just, dont care. Not showing symptoms so you must be ok to hug right? RIGHT?!

But you all were together at Xmas. I'm seeing tons of video of huge gatherings, no masks, but matching shirts. Priorities I guess.

This makes me both sad and angry...

You’re right. They are complete Morons. Ugh. It’s a horrible and surreal realization. (Speaking from experience.)

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

This is why I've been at home for two years now

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is insanity ...at least they did tell you though! Not everyone even goes that far.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My parents were like that. I got tired of taking care of them and stopped. Now I only have 1 parent. My dad did not survive.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They are beyond saving and frankly aren’t even worth it. Insulate yourself so at least YOU don’t have blood on your hands.

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

Agree.. they are..

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

About half my family is antivaxx. I'm doing what I can, but just calling it a lost cause at this point.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ever been drowning in the consequences of ignorant people at no fault of your own personality? 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Most marginalized groups already have experienced this. Disabled, neurodivergent, poor, LGBTQIA+, race and sex. We all feel it. 2/2

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

You are right. That is moronic. You aren't alone however. Selfish stupidity is growing.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. Your parents are morons. Nothing insightful to say. Just reaffirming your thoughts

Can lead a horse to water something something...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You have my sympathy.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah. I get my shots and wear my mask now for me. Getting tired of the rules that don’t make sense and the people who just suck

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My brothers friend is positive, but was still going to join us all for our annual bowling event yesterday. I lost my shit on him.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

What the fuck.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You hit the nail on the head. This is so dangerous BECAUSE you are contagious before you even know you are sick. It's designed for dumbasses

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where did you see the pics? If it’s fb or other social media you should call them out. At least warn anybody in the picture that MIGHT care.

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Absolutely! @vudumommajuju FRY mom on social media. "Hey Mom, did they all know you have an active Covid case in your house? Get tested!"

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Of course, we've also got to deal with people complaining about restrictions, while never obeying them.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

oh how the tables have turned

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Australia can visit alot of countries now, Not America, but it's them cut off. BUILD THE WALL!

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I agree. Lock us the fuck in and keep us away from everyone until the US can get it’s shit together. I’m angry.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And Canada too, we're just as bad. Had a guy yell and start to chase after me and my mum the other week because we were wearing masks.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck it, die then.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This happened with my family last year. I’m on chemo and they tested positive on the 26th. I somehow didn’t get it, blew my mind. I refused-

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

to come spend time with them this year, and I’m glad I did because my dad told me he is going out of his way to try and catch omicron for-

As someone who’s been in Emergency Management and pandemic preparedness, sometimes I feel I’d have gotten more mileage out of teaching Latin

4 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Previous models were optimistic about participation / opposition.. it is very needed work though, thank you.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, always worried about nutters, but really didn’t think the biggest problem in planning for public health would be, well, the public.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Silver lining- epidemiology has a lot of overlap with dis-info.. & cults overlap with emergency / stress..

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.. science the shit out of this- cooperative networks, strategize, test programs, review, revise.. I'd guarantee those emergency

An antivaxx neighbour of ours died last week from Covid, he said it was a fake illness

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Womp womp. I’m sorry, I’m all out of fucks to give. Hope they didn’t waste the hospital’s time. That’d piss me off.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same, I’m sick of these antivaxx, Covid is fake, wearing masks but not over their nose types.

Honestly I have hit the point where all I can do is done. Others will do what they want. Had covid. Got vax. Mask on. Patience gone.

4 years ago | Likes 922 Dislikes 8

Same. I got the booster and still wear my mask, at this point I think all the people that could be convinced with words already have been

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Masks on, patience gone!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I officially lost any sympathy or patience for antivaxxers and antimaskers long ago. I just want them to either get smarter or die sooner.

4 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Mask on patience gone is my new mantra

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My mother-in-law brought her mother over to in-laws' house Christmas Eve, when my father-in-law had tested positive a week earlier and 1/

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

was symptomatic/with fever Christmas Eve. Wife and I were like, wtf??? Grandmother-in-law is in her 90s, like bringing sheep to lion. 2/2

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

They will sleep well at night knowing it was "the virus" that took her. I'm sure insurance will pay out if it was an "out side force"

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same. I’m careful, vaccinated, and masked. Time to move forward

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

"Mask on patience gone"

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, I'm fully vaccinated and I have my booster I've done all I can they've made their choice if they die they die fuck them.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lol i got vaccinated. Wear mask. Got booster last week… diagnosed with covid three days later. So fun.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The ride won't be as long though. Get ice pops. Walk around the house. Breath deep. Unvaxed was 2weeks of shit. Gl stay home

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ehh. It’s been going on a week strong.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Got all 3 “jabs” so far, wear a mask everywhere and never stopped, social distance, and share factual information…but when does it all end?

4 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 1

I got all 3 doses myself and family is all dosed and kids. I don't wear masks anywhere because I am done caring about everyone else.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When all the willful idiots die.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

When it's killed everyone who doesn't take it seriously.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I went back to wearing a p100 mask. Looks likena gas mask but fuck it. Inhate people

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Never. It's never gonna end.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When they all die.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

When the last nail is driven into the coffin lid.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Same.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Remember, your actions, masking, distancing, etc. might be the very thing that breaks a link in the infection chain and thus save lives.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

One of the reasons many governments have given up on restrictions and resigned to everyone just getting it at some point.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 5

Except anyone with any basic understanding recognizes that "natural immunity" is/was never a real solution. It mutates too fast. We NEED >

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

< ENFORCED vaccine mandates if we are ever going to get in front of this thing. Idk if that's even enough with some countries not caring ...

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Bro, we have kids regularly shoot up schools, tried nothing to fix it and we’re all out of ideas. This is a FAR more difficult problem.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

No no, we banned backpacks or made them bulletproof! Allllll fixed

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If that’s true (and many learned people disagree) then it would still be self-correcting over time

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

By the same logic that one could argue manmade climate change is a "self-correcting" problem, sure.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Yes… Vastly different scales and timelines, but yes.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

tiny octopus is gonna need some citations for these "many learned people" who aren't your Uncle Frank on Facebook.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Sure. reputable timely sources help. But that citation is nearly a year old into a nascent pandemic. There are also concerns that autoimmune

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also, keep in mind that people can be both pro-vaccine AND anti-mandates.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Tiny Octopus wonders how you've let kids attend public schools. Or let people in the military serve. Or traveled overseas. All of those have

I've divorced my family over their anti vax views. if they don't want to believe in reality... fine... but why can't they believe in me?

4 years ago | Likes 291 Dislikes 13

Unless you’re an epidemiologist, I don’t see how this is a “believe in you" thing. Am i reading something wrong?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 26

Did the same, they are antivax and Trumpers. Finally cut them off after they repeatedly insulted my wife and I over our views.

4 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 2

I found that losing those kinds of people are like losing canker sores.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

You won't be the only one to have done this. And the LGBT community has been doing it forever.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

yep. and alot of people with common sense are doing what im doing. Its surprising how many people have to do this.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

long, but hits a lot of good points.. even if your fam isn't hard Qanon, a lot of people in their circles

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I'm literally tearing up because this is my same sentiment...I love my family but they don;t listen to what i think or believe...I feel like

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

the black sheep of the family...

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Starting to feel that way myself. Wife's given up, our 5 year old had symptoms as did I an she got angry that I wanted testing as she had1/

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plans to see her family that day. Fuck me right?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel that way too. you didn't do anything to deserve it. just move on. it was their mistake to not share in the worth of your heart.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and why cant you believe in them? im vaccinated, friday im getting my booster, but its family. break up over something silly like this?

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 61

In what way is total disregard for the wellbeing and safety of others "silly"?

4 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 1

Just because they are family doesn't mean they are good for you

4 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

How is it silly?

4 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 2

Precisely because it's family: You know they're not stupid, but they're doing stupid things.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

"something silly like this" You have GOT to be trolling.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Most people who’ve “broken up” with family over the last year had preexisting issues, this was just the last straw.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

yyeeeeeuuuup!

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Man you are fucking stupid, but at least you take your shots, good on you for doing that at least. I take it you never wear masks anymore?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Family who doesn't give a shit about keeping their family alive isn't family.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

“iTS fAMiLy” literally means nothing. Stop being so concerned with circumstances of birth & focus on what people do.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

fucking aye

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I find it hilarious that it always seems to be 1 group that "divorces" family over issues rather than finding happy mediums.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 45

lol happy mediums....that involves infecting others and possible death...are you this fucking stupid.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is no compromise to “reality”. No middle ground to “caring about other’s health”. It’s black or white once they’re off the deep end.

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

A happy medium between spreading a potentially deadly virus and not?

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

What's the middle ground here? One side believes the other is actively contributing to the death of those around them, the other doesn't care

4 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

It only works when all parties have a vested interest in being civil and caring about others. What the anti ppl want is complete submission

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

to their viewpoints. Fuck that if my health and life are on the line. Shows me they prize dogma over people. Fuck that life.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I find it hilarious that some families fucking suck and I don’t want to be a part of them, go figure!

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

What is the happy medium of intentionally and uncaringly exposing others to covid?

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Only let them do it half as much /s

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You may be /s but most antivaxers idea of compromise is "do everything I want".

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Lol what? Just ignoring all the children expelled from their homes by parents over religious stuff?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yup. America failed this test. Eventually we will just declare failure and accept another million people are just going to die.

4 years ago | Likes 477 Dislikes 16

Uh, not just America.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not just America unfortunately, UK feels very similar

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Eventually?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We did that here in Michigan back in June when the Republicans passed a law stripping the Governor of the ability to fight Covid.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish it were only america that failed. Pandemic wise and even politically, this wave of stupidity isn’t US restricted, sadly.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Eventually? Dude I accepted that almost eight months ago.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On a bright note, the amount of GOP-voters dying, might put a dent into Trump or other republicans chances in future elections. Go Darwin !

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At this point, I'm more worried that HCWs are getting severely burned out because of the morons. I'd be fine with triage rules including /1

4 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

/2 Vaccination status.

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

I've always felt overpopulation was a huge issue. This isn't how I wanted it managed, but I'll honestly take it.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only country declaring victory is North Korean. Either they are lying or for a month they just killed everyone with a fever.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Their Covid count just went 1,0,1,0,1,0,1,0 the whole time probably.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that's what happens when you make a pandemic a political platform

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think humanity failed the test, not just the US. Seeing anti lockdown protests and vaccine conspiracy theorists in most countries.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Truth. This is nothing special for the US

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Except it's not just going to be another million.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My wife did the math last night, we've lost more Americans to Covid than all US wars except Civil combined. Difference of about 400k or so.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To clarify, difference is when you add in the totals from the Civil War. So by next December, we'll have surpassed all US wars.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Give it another month or two to shore up those numbers...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While these numbers are atrocious, let's also remember that our population is bigger. Between WW1/WW2/civil we have lost 2.93% vs .2% covid

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, your wife's math is off a little. WW1 - 117,000 | WW2 - 418,500 | Vietnam - 58,220 | Korean - 54,260 which is 647,980 compared to 817k

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please don't think I am saying the numbers are good, they're not. But they also weren't completely correct.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I meant to clarify about the difference right after the first comment, but got sidetracked getting breakfast ready.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Breakfast is important!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is the dress rehearsal for global warming response.

4 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 2

Watch "don't look up" yep. Yeah we might all die but did you hear Kim is divorcing Kanye?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We've also proven that we're susceptible to a biological attack, though at this point, no one really needs to.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is the second act of the global warming response.

4 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

It's the third season that deals with different themes but has the same moral.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not even a serious pandemic. Our response has virologists pissing themselves because we've failed gloriously.

4 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

I think that if the virus was deadlier then people would have taken it more seriously and the pandemic would have been over sooner.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The flu of 1918 was much more deadly and we had the same prob. The disadvantage now is that social media allows for weaponized stupidity

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Worst thing is, it's gonna have a storm warning effect. If a really, really dangerous one hits, they'll be primed to deny it already.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That's what really concerns me. Florida is actively discouraging vaccination and emboldening the stupid. Vax reqs are being gutted, too.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Imagine if this was an Ebola pandemic. Game fucking over. We are screwed if a more deadly pandemic happens in the future.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Fortunately Ebola isnt contagious by air. We’d be fucked otherwise.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And Ebola is easier to contain than some, even if it was. It's fast and visible. Till this point at least...

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

* when. It's inevitable that this happens again and we have learned nothing. With states glorifying non-vaccination, it will be far worse.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I am happy to cull the ignorant, and I can do nothing but weap for the people they take with them.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Funnily enough, we reacted exactly how it could have been expected from the study on World of Warcraft's "corrupted blood" incident xD

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I enjoy reading stories about that day. The sanctuaries and those that would try to break in. Man, gaming gold.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Entire cities wiped out :x

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I read about that! Apparently at the time it received some attention from virologists and even more are studying it after it was shown to be

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

an accurate model of how bad we are at handling these problems.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Virologists didn’t need to study it but sociologists got some good info. But they said it was useless bc they thought in a real pandemic 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0
