Last June, my husband spots a large snapping turtle trying to cross the road in front of our home. He carries her to safety, and a couple hours later we find her in our backyard laying eggs. They just hatched today!

Baby turtle!

My husband out in the pouring rain saving Mama Snapper from the road last June.

He grabbed a snow shovel to pick her up because she was so big, I have still have no idea how he saw her from our porch!

He brought her to the water in our front yard and a few hours later we found Mama Snapper laying eggs in our backyard. I guess she figured her babies would be safe with us since he saved her from the road.

We were sitting outside our front porch this afternoon and started to see little wiggly things moving about!

My husband found a few babies already in our front yard and picked them up because we had some large birds in the water eyeing them for a tasty snack.

Not on our watch, you feathery f*cks.

Opening up the hole to make sure all the babies get out.

So many shells! We have found some in prior years but pretty sure an animal ate them and we were so bummed out.

We had put ten in the water already, three more just hatched and two were wiggling in their shell!

Last ones! This makes 15 total.

Loving their new home.

Putting more babies in the water and standing guard from large predatory birds. Husband was having fun shooting his .22 over their head to scare them off.

The last three we put in the water. I love how they just hatched a few minutes prior and their little feet are already so comfortable in the water.

Happy 40th!!!

You need some ooze, and a pet hamster with karate skills.

This is awesome @op! Accolade awarded! Now you'll have your own snapper army to ride into battle one day!

Agreed! Hence the snow shovel.

I’m trying to figure out where you are but the snow shovel keeps confusing me. Please ‘splain

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There are some states that experience snow. So we have snow shovels. To push the snow around so we can move. ‘Splained nuff?

Guess I thought snapping turtles occurred mainly in areas with warmer climates, was just curious to learn something new

Make sure the pond has a lot of minnows/small fish now.

5 years ago | Likes 247 Dislikes 0

Ohhhhh they do. Sooo many. That’s why we have so many egrets and great blue herons we were trying to protect the babies from.

I’m usually not for altering nature but this is pretty cool...

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Then why did you hire me to cybernetically enhance these geese?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can forget fishing for your table from that pond. These babies will clear out all your fish.

Just wait till they’re teenagers !

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Right? Lots of pizza, keep them training with their rat Sensei, and try to hold them off on being so horny for April.

I've seen how turtles do it, I don't think she'd have been very satisfied anyway.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not if they have tiny pancakes.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You will now have an eternally loyal army of biting shell beasts. Good job!

5 years ago | Likes 586 Dislikes 0

If I wanted an army of anything to deal with zombies it would be snapping turtles. They move at the same pace. Time for popcorn

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

I hope @op has plenty of pizza. They will be teenagers in no time.

It’s that time of year. One of the snappers from our pond tried to cross the road to lay her eggs. Neighbor poked her with a rake til she

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Turned back. Too many of them go in the road and get run over. I got picture of her.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It takes 14 months for a turtle egg to hatch?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nope! Mama laid her eggs June 12 2020 and they hatched today

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I was just making a joke about the last June thing too, no worries, pretty sweet you got to see the babies

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s a really cool story, and the pictures are awesome, but I don’t know anybody who refers to June of the current year as “last June”.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I know. I saw that after I posted. Cringe.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I mean I noticed that. See how good I am with the wording shit? ??

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It’s all good. I think you can edit? I don’t know. I’ve barely ever submitted anything. Certainly never made front page.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I tried!!! I don’t think so. Booooo. But I hear you and you’re right. Last June? This past June? A couple months ago? Damn it... no idea ?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like your husbands head. I like his hair.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

I do too ❤️ he had hair down past his ass when I met him and he sheepishly told me that he always dreamt of getting dreads but didn’t 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

2/2 think anyone would like them. I sent him to a hairdresser for his 50th and told him to go nuts. He rocks them and I love how happy he is

You're the best partner anyone could ask for! Keep on loving him the right way!
