Reading suggestions please

I just finished reading the Riftwar cycle, and now I'm lost. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Preferably sci fi/fantasy.

Do yourself a favor, read Brent Week's Night Angel trilogy. And then his Lightbringer series. 4th out of (supposedly) 5 comes out Oct. 25.

Dune series

I can't stress enough how much Dune is a must read for a sci-fi/fantasy fan. You can read the rest if you want, but at least read Dune.

Agreed.

Sci if - any collaboration between Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. Or by them separately too, but they are best together.

Stephen kings "The dark tower " saga

For some excellent fantasy a bit off the beaten path, try P.C. Hodgell's books.

I think I've seen this book before but I don't know what it is: what book is this:

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The enlightened mind - Stephen Mitchell.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, guess it was a different book. :P

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dune. The gunslinger/dark tower series. Name of the wind. Those are my 3 favorites. If you like the horror/apocalypse genre than swan song

Wheel of Time, R. A. Salvatore's series on Drizzt about 30 decent books if you like dnd lore. Anne McCaffrey's dragons of Pern books.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So many Dragon Lance books if you got lots of time.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have loved each of these.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Terry Pratchett.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pratchett is wonderful. HE IS MISSED.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Belgariad. Golden Hills of Westria. Malorean.

The other eddings works

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There was one I didn't care for. Redemption of Althalus. It seemed too rushed toward the end, like he just wanted to get it over with.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok....I will give you that, but I meant more his saga books. The Elerium? elysium? The E and the sequel to the E books.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you read the wheel of time series yet?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Nope. These are all going on a list. Thank you.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe also try the Furies of Calderon series

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@OP should know that he'll have to slog through 13 dammed thick books to get to the last one, which is one of the all time best.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's she, not he, and it sounds good to me. :)

Terry Pratchett

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Following up on this, I find "Guards Guards" or "Going Postal" to be good starters for Pratchett.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haven't read Guards Guards yet but Going Postal was fantastic.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you liked Going Postal, there's a direct sequel called Making Money with the same lead character that's also excellent.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love Pratchett. Good Omens and Mort are hiding down in the bottom left of photo.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Neil Gaimon, then.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just finished, "Good Omens." That book was amazing! Have you read, "Stardust" yet?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not yet. I'm thinking of starting the discworld series from the start.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I got hooked on reading Pratchett after watching, "Going Postal." His stories are wonderful.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've never loved anything as much as I did Harry Potter. And I probably never will. I think it ruined reading for me.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

HP is fun and accessible. Nothing wrong with that. Find something that challenges you. You might find that you enjoy it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah they were something special, but they definitely haven't ruined reading for me.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Brandon Sanderson. Lighter reading? Mistborn series. Full epic fantasy? The Way of Kings. Be warned, he's like a drug..Can't. stop. reading.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

WATCH OUT! Way of Kings is 10 books long and only two are finished.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sigh..I know. And he's taking a break after 5 to finish other projects. But book 3 1st draft is 61%. He plans on finishing this year.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But won't realistically have it edited, published and shipped til at least spring of 2017.

Star Wars

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'll 2nd that. In particular the X-wing series.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While I am a huge fan of the SW Extended Universe, it's not the best thing to get into at the moment. Disney is/has thrown it out. (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's yet to be determined if the new EU (are we calling it that?) will be as rich. (2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't let one creative entity tell you that another is not valid.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm just sad they won't be adding anything new to my EU shelf.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dune. As a sci-fi/fantasy fan, you are doing yourself a disservice if you haven't read it. If you have read it, apologies.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Deep in the human unconscious is a pervasive need for a logical universe that makes sense. But the real universe is always one step (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

beyond logic. -Dune, Frank Herbert

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dune is the green book just underneath "tear of the gods," but thank you, it is one of my favourites.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Excellent! I didn't spent much time on the second shelf. Nice collection.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you. It's my "favourite books" bookshelf.
