Pretty sure thats supposed to have a rod that goes through the center and clamps the cannister on both sides, preventing this very issue and slotting nicely into a rotisserie motor to rotate automatically
I wish. This was just my favorite of the bad moments! Good lord did the year have some dark days. It was still overall very good though, I’m happy to say 🙂
I've pulled that move dozens of times. I only left the tongs on the grill once (working a line) and then forgot and grabbed them barehanded 5 minutes later. I still have the print in my hands from it :D
The idea was to tastefully char some garlic for a different flavor than roasted garlic, but apparently I’m all thumbs sometimes and inanimate objects can fight back.
That’s a lot of garlic! I’ve stuck a couple cloves on a toothpick and grilled them before but didn’t notice much difference so I usually just put them in some tinfoil with a little oil. I’m generally using gas tho, not charcoal or wood.
Sometimes, garlic is the spice in your life, enriching it beyond measure. Other times, garlic decides to remove itself from your life, leaving it a sad, empty husk, with the vampires' claws rasping at your door.
Yeah those things suck, I haven’t used them since. The audacity of them to cost me not only garlic, but the whole shine of that day! Note to self, don’t impulse by grill equipment at midnight on social media.
Just confit garlic. Cover with 1” oil in a pan. Low low heat, cook until golden brown, a couple hours maybe. Then keep the oil (garlic oil) and puree the garlic. Thank me later.
Charred garlic is a specific flavor that brings in a particular (targeted) bitterness while still retaining some raw garlic sharpness. Confit is too sweet and mellow for what I was after with this experiment.
That’s the neat part, I don’t! This was an experiment to see if it was even worth it, and we can see how well that went. For product quantities I’d have to grill like 5-6x times that amount, so that process is a no-go. Oh well 🤷🏻♂️
What about those cages intended for grilling fish? Something like this. https://a.co/d/0qwd86u. More surface area, larger for higher volume, locks closed, just need to make sure the mesh is fine enough the garlic won't slip through.
It’s a better investment of effort to build flavor another way. If we try to scale that idea up to 5 pounds of garlic for a batch it becomes cumbersome and inefficient. All processes have to pass the ‘will this make me money’ filter 😅
EXACTLY! Whenever I am with a child and something disastrous happens (like flour spills everywhere or a container drops, making a big mess), I always laugh and say something like, “This sucks right now, but I promise you, sometime in the future, you will look back at this moment and realize that this was a good lesson as to why it’s important to be mindful of your actions, and be aware of your surroundings.” And then I point out, “at least no one was hurt; that matters most.”
I’ll get you an epoxy-sealed clove of garlic instead of a diamond 😂
I was originally going for a charred garlic flavor over a roasted one when developing the curry mustard sauce I released last year, but I decided to spend my effort making a custom curry powder instead. This moment definitely helped dissuade more garlic experiments for a while :P
Full batches of sauce (20gal currently) use between 3-4 pounds, so we run through a hell of a lot!

What kind of shit contraption is that. It doesn't even screw.
HarmacyHotSauce
Funny that while it’s almost shaped like a trash can, it’s actually just garbage!
oldguyexlurker
That's a lotta ones in a row, dude. Your character is ded.

I just got my dad a couple of these for Xmas. Hopefully he has better luck with them. Lol
vilikke
Give him a couple of steel paperclips too, to lock the ends in place better
HarmacyHotSauce
I hope so too! I haven’t messed with them since this day 😅

The clacks were comical timing

Sorry Harmacy. But I sure laughed, too.
Joylove
This gave me a good lol and the person I forwarded it to is in for a good belly laugh as well.
HarmacyHotSauce
Then it was all worth it 😂
ShimmerinStrider
We both did.
HarmacyHotSauce
It’s better than the alternative!
HarmacyHotSauce
I had to, or I’d have cried hahaha. What a terrible day that was!
LinemanMatt
Hey, at least you didn't melt that thin plastic glove to your hand.
HarmacyHotSauce
Hence my gentle touching! It was hella hot even through the glove.
TankardHoot
Pretty clear that design could use some improvement
Joylove
They’d be straight in the bin.
HarmacyHotSauce
Correct! I was OVER that day 😅
Benedictum
Pretty sure thats supposed to have a rod that goes through the center and clamps the cannister on both sides, preventing this very issue and slotting nicely into a rotisserie motor to rotate automatically
HarmacyHotSauce
No doubt! Let’s see if the rust they collect improves them any over the next few years 😂
TankardHoot
Flavor!
Quebeker
All that paper work for nothing
HarmacyHotSauce
Luckily we buy pre-peeled garlic. Ain’t no way we’re peeling the amount we go through each week!
TheCarpe
If you soak the cloves in hot water for about 5 mins the paper comes right off.

If that is as bad as it got the rest of the year had to have been pretty good.

I wish. This was just my favorite of the bad moments! Good lord did the year have some dark days. It was still overall very good though, I’m happy to say 🙂
harthram
Bad design. Not your fault
HarmacyHotSauce
Nope, but it sure was my problem 😭
SofaH3ro
That garlic cooker is pretty cool looking, but hopefully one exists that works lol
HarmacyHotSauce
It sure looks cool! Cool enough to buy and try once 😂
wabitgirl
The tongs toss at the end, followed by you picking them beause you know they'll melt really sealed this for me.
HarmacyHotSauce
“F this! Wait I need those…”
wabitgirl
I've pulled that move dozens of times. I only left the tongs on the grill once (working a line) and then forgot and grabbed them barehanded 5 minutes later. I still have the print in my hands from it :D
HarmacyHotSauce
“Why are these hot tongs so cold? Oh, right…”
Why am I speaking in quotes all of a sudden? 😅
wabitgirl
Reliving the moment, I think? Idk, I use quotes a lot too, might just be infectious.
deweydecibel
What are you trying to do??
HarmacyHotSauce
The idea was to tastefully char some garlic for a different flavor than roasted garlic, but apparently I’m all thumbs sometimes and inanimate objects can fight back.

At least you got a funny video out of it!
Niagaran
I got one of these from Aliexpress last year for the camper. Works great but mine has a better functioning lid.
HarmacyHotSauce
Glad you got the good ones 😂
andexer
I'm sorry you lost your garlic, but you did give me a laugh
andexer
Also, "lost your garlic" sounds like it should a saying
HarmacyHotSauce
It’s almost like a call for help. “Oh my, he lost his garlic. Is there anyone we can call?”
andexer
"I need some help here! Bout to lose my garlic!"
HarmacyHotSauce
Sometimes you et the garlic, sometimes the garlic… uh, slips through the grates of your grill. Or something. I’m not a poet.

Round caps that just press-fit inside definitely feel like a recipe for disaster. And lost garlic. Poor garlic.

Recipe, haha.

HarmacyHotSauce
Don’t be, every giggle erases a bit of the weight of that moment hahaha! Life sure be lifin’

A tragic cooking accident became top comedy for the internet.
Gotta count for something eh?
Cheers friend!

I wonder if this is a response we learned from parents exploding at slight inconveniences when we were kids 🤔
whygeorgiawhy
I would cry
HarmacyHotSauce
50/50 between laugh and cry. That was a miserable day beyond the garlic 😭
whygeorgiawhy
I’m sorry haha. The frustration is palpable
HarmacyHotSauce
At least it’s worth some giggles almost a year later 😌
MarbledNightmare
That's the most infomercial fail sequence I've ever seen

Das wat ah duuuuu
HarmacyHotSauce
Oh my! Didn’t see you there 🙈
PineappleLoopsBroether
😜Cuz I’m a pro. This actually IS one of the cameras I set up and work with.
KitchenClean
@Op On the bright side, it's nice to see there are still people who know what constitutes as a respectable amount of garlic.
HarmacyHotSauce
That was the test amount 😁
KitchenClean
Marry me. LoL, I avoid all this mishap by wrapping entire bulbs of garlic drizzled in olive oil and salt and roasting them in the oven. Amazingly good and easy - like this: https://youtube.com/shorts/tJobQ-IkiTE?si=F_Z26NYM5K8adZLe

The ring sounds so lovely, oh dear, but why did you have to ruin the surprise?
Garlic curry powder sounds awesome. Did that canister have a latch? I can't believe it just came undone like that?
HarmacyHotSauce
Because the knowledge is so you know I get it, the surprise is when it happens, and the real magic is each moment we spend eating garlic together 😋
