Toy customizing and photographing has always been my favourite hobby. A resolution to myself was to try and make myself indulge in it more this year. So here's me trying.
Quick 'n dirty set-up in my basement with some customized Colonial Marines, a couple flashlights, and my cellphone camera.
My head-story was that these Marines have been dispatched to locate a missing technician. They find the tech, and a dead creature...and then the motion tracker begins to beep.
I didn't use my Nikon DSLR because I was feeling a little lazy.
Hot Toys had the Aliens license years ago. The figures haven't been officially revisited since. They haven't aged the best, and the likenesses were atrocious, but the uniforms and armour hold up very well when put on updated bodies.
A long-term dream/goal of mine is to rig up the shoulder lamps with LEDs...or find someone to do it for me, because I've got zero knowledge of electrical stuff.

That's pretty rad.

AHHH ok thats pretty cool stuff dude! From the thumbnail I'd assumed your hobby was heavily armed breaching and assault of barricaded edifices
picklemunkey
Haha thanks! Yeah I definitely don't so do much breach and clear manoeuvres these days

These photos are so good that I have no idea just how large the figures are. Congratulations!
picklemunkey
haha why thanks! They're 1/6 scale, so about 12 inches in height. All the little clips and such are actually functional. Can even remove the magazine from their rifles, rack the grenade launcher, and all sorts of stuff.

I'm really glad to hear you are A) Focusing so much of light sources. and B) forcing yourself to do more photography. Casually looking at what you've posted I would say I like this background setup you've created significantly more than the outside scenes. Angles of the action shots are exquisite. KEEP. IT. UP.
picklemunkey
I appreciate that a lot! I'll for sure try to :) I usually do prefer outdoor shoots, I did a lovely one with an Arthur Morgan figure from Red Dead 2 at a local beach a couple years ago that's one of my favourites.

You could do epic crossovers. Aliens and Terminator comes to mind. You'd only need 1 Michal Bean lol
picklemunkey
I'd love that, really. It's so damn hard to find a good Michael Biehn head sculpt in 1/6 scale, though.

I assume you've gone through the usual suspects of toy companies? Statue companies and McFarlane basically.
picklemunkey
Oh yeah. Some independent parties offer him 3d printed in 1/6 but he seems to be a tough likeness to nail. I repainted the smaller McFarlane one awhile back and it turned out pretty good though.

What about a Ripley and Newt / Sarah and John combo?
picklemunkey
Oooh man that would be really cool. Sarah would not react well to Bishop lol
