At one point, it was fair use to make copies of legally owned tapes.

The FBI has been hacked... and that is the nice word for it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ripped off the original tweet, right down to the title. You'll make FP for sure.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

FBI director probably had a guy for busting people copying VHS tapes

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the unplanned flashback to childhood.

Freaking rich people with their VHS players.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

This gave me a good chuckle

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Trump supporters would call it a"cuckle"

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i was literally anxious and thought the screen would disappear before i had a chance to do anything, like upvote

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I find it funny that when you pirate a movie there are no warnings.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You wouldn't shoot a cop.. You wouldn't steal a car...

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

But I would download a car.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. +1

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Quite possibly one of the greatest posts I have seen all week. Dyin here haha!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You really stole this from Twitter??

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Copyright laws permit the transfer of owned art through mediums for personal use. The fact they try to prevent you is illegal.

Anyone have a copy of Pokemon The First Movie?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When I saw this I instantly heard the sound when you pause a VHS

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Quick let me borrow your CDs so I can make a copy

Imagine being the last person arrested ever for VHS piracy.

9 years ago | Likes 113 Dislikes 1

Hey the same comment as was on the original twitter screenshot post of this hours ago!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They get out of prison and DVDs are already obsolete.

9 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

You can also be the last person arrested for DVD copying!!!!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sounds like a plot for a halfway decent tv show. 'The Last Video Pirate'.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I only want to see it if it's done in the style of Kung Fury.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wait, you mean i can retransmit NFL broadcasts without express written consent!?!?!!

9 years ago | Likes 589 Dislikes 1

Insert family guy gif*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

NFL, NHL, MLS? Sure. But MLB will cut a bitch.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The MLB doesnt fuck around

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, that's the FCC

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

shit just got real.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You still need implied oral consent.

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Haha, there it is! Came to find and was not disappointed.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Who wouldn't consent to oral?

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

You know whats nice about living in canada? We dont get charged for stupid shit like that. Or any MPAA/RIAA bullshit either

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Well, I assume Canada does in fact have intellectual property laws and an industry surrounding them.. just hopefully a less stupid one.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, yes. But like when you get caught by a company torrenting, you just get a letter from your ISP saying "someone contacted us about 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/2 your IP address for copyright infringement. We didnt give them your info. Maybe stop...or dont we wont ever give them your info"

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Side note, I'm not sure about Canada, but I'm fairly sure that in the US, downloading pirated materials is legal, but uploading them is

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have that in the US too.except the ISP will discontinue service after 700 strikes

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had a copyright law professor that spent most of a class explaining why those messages were fear-mongering bullshit. That was a fun day.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Please continue

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Waiting for the story

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The gist is this: US Copyright Law only applies to articles in a "fixed medium of expression". That would be music sheets, tapes, dvds, etc.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A live event cannot be fixed in any such way, this is why improv jazz, comedy standup, and other similar performances are not copyrightable.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have never heard this logic before. What is the legal definition of a live event? What about youtube? What about reality TV?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did some research. This seems like a good post about it: https://goo.gl/GGvPU9

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha, look how bad the tracking is. I'll bet like half of imgur won't even know what that means!

9 years ago | Likes 125 Dislikes 8

The day we got a VCR with auto tracking I knew my family had finally made it big

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Probs >half judging by the number of memes about finals, class, homework and things that would only happen if you live with your parents

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It actually never occurred to me that these would be posted by actual high schoolers. I thought we were all reliving those days...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just give it a good ol' whack

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Eh, I've seen worse. My kids watch a Little Bear tape that bounces and tracks right off the screen constantly....

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Noyce

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was probably paused.

9 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

It is paused you can tell by the center left side and warped lettering.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I see what you did there.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's what I thought. They get all shitty when you pause.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Silly analog technology.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's cause the head has to keep reading the same frame over and over again, 29.97 times a second. I think sometimes the tape would be (++)

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

(++) slightly offset, causing it to read part of one frame and part of the next

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I still have a whole box of VHS tapes, and a working VCR too! I bet Titanic would still resume after a certain scene if played today...

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I have a bunch of VHS tapes, but my VCRs keep breaking.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think the iceberg was completely out of the blue, it just came out of nowhere in the movie...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My tape got kinda fucked up and doesn't really play that scene too well anymore. Too many years of too much abusive rewinding and playing.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

two-part vhs

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Funny fucking story. Not really, but some asshole dropped a bunch of VHC tapes in my yard a few weeks ago. Titanic was one of them.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

back in the day... that Titanic set was probably $40 at best

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why some asshole? Sounds nice

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hit some of them with my lawn mower.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh..

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The scene where that one random dude falls off and hits his head off the propeller? Me too, I used to watch that scene all the time.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

"AAAAAAAAHHH-" *THUNK* *sick flips*

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Dat flip tho, mad skills

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am 100% positive that the Oscar voters got to this scene, and turned it off because it was clear nothing was beating it for best picture.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes....yes thats the one.....certainly.....

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I don't doubt it. Only worthwhile scene in the movie if you ask me, so I can't imagine what else it could be.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

For real, yeah. Nothing else really drew me in...although some of it was laid our very well...
