For the longest time I have wanted a motorcycle, still not able to afford one... some day though!

(Edit) Front page! Thank you for all the comments and yes, as soon as I can I’ll buy a used, cheap bike to learn and drop! Once I master it then I’ll go for this or one of your many suggestions! You guys rock! Send me pics of your bikes or anything you like!!! :)

(Edit 2) Thanks to @kahless01 here is the sauce for this particular bike http://bespokemotorcycles.co.uk/portfolio-item/t100

Keep budget for gear too, don't trust anyone on the road

If you're willing to wrench a bit 1970 ujm bikes carry the look and are quite fun. Parts are readily available for repairs or customizeing

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That, my friend, is a thing of beauty,

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does that front wheel rub the fender? Looks like it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

First bike was a Triumph Tiger Cub from the 60’s. I still have it too!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

hunt craigslist every single day. I got a 1975 dt175 for $150. Slowly rebuilding. Good way to learn to work on your own bike too.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Im a big guy and want to ride, but sadly most good bikes that would fit my size are super expensiv. Harley Davidson VRod is the dream :(

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can dream of replacing those tires every 6 months.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Heh, and every time you do, the front wheel will rub against the fender again. Huzzah!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That tread tho

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's nothing quite like British motorcycles. I approve this.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

@sarah I heard you like these kinds of things.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

A beautiful Triumph on the front page? What a day! Thanks for the tag.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sure thing!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sauce for that particular bike. http://bespokemotorcycles.co.uk/portfolio-item/t100

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you so much!!!! It is a really cool bike!!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"For his latest T100 the old girl’s legs needed to be spread a bit wider to accept an exceptionally thick 17 incher." lmao this writer.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You will get 99% of your motorcycle enjoyment from a bike you CAN afford. This guy is just chasing that last 1%

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

That 1% is worth the extra hassle & expense though..

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You sure m8? I work with bikes for a living. I can tell you its not. It never is.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep, and if it's not, then they bought the wrong bike.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can get a new KTM Duke 390 for $5000. It took me a couple months to save up the $1000 down payment and a little under 2 years to 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pay it off. I had a few financial hiccups which is why it took so long but you can definitely pay it off in a year. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Triumphs are art. I think they're putting 1200s in them now. They were already as powerful as they ever need to be

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

nah theyre still 900s like before. they just heavily revised the engine and gave it a power bump is desperately needed.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How much offroading could you do with your Scrambler, rather change the tyres for road travel.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I bought a salvage title 08 speed triple for $1800 & nursed it back to health for about $800. Maintenance is the killer on bikes though fyi.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Spend on the cheap and get a bike to learn on. I got a 600cc Yamaha for $4000, and even that was more than I intended to spend.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm in the same boat. What's holding me back is the price of the mandatory insurance, not the bike itself.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just don’t get a Harley

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love it! How much is one of those beauties @op?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

that one is a custom made T100 by down and outs. its much more than 15k. stock they arent bad at all. pricey but thats the triumph tax.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Around $15K depends on model and accessories... they’re a beauty! ;)

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Base model twins start around $9. Scrambler (similar to above) is $10.5k. Buy the base and make it yours. $15k is too high.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

9 bucks for a motorcycle and OP is still chasing that dream? .... same OP.... same.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shit. Forgot the "k". :P

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is a sexy fucking Triumph

8 years ago | Likes 121 Dislikes 4

Riding knobbies on brick = you're gonna drop on your side. Soon.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most Triumphs are

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

My roommate has a 2017 triumph street twin and it honestly sounds like my old moped next to my 82 cx500

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’d rub my butt on that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We're making a note here: Sexy Success

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah it is!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*send motorcycles!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Iirc brand new it costs as much as a half decent car :c I'm too poor for this!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's not a showroom bike. Twins start at $9k and go up from there.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really want a Triumph Scrambler but it's like £11,000 at least here... nearly 15k usd ;-;

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A bit off. Scramblers start at $10.8k US. £9k in UK. Dealers set the price obviously, but you're way off on MSRP.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're quite right, I must have been looking at something else and made a dumb mistake/association. Thanks for pointing that out haha.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Triumph Scrambler. I believe Chris Pratt rode one in jurassic Park.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Confirmed.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would change the tires.

8 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 11

Agreed.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah... there's a reason they make different tires for the front and back.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But it looks fucking gorgeous

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They have no place on that bike, purely cosmetic

Something that heavy, with little suspension travel would be rubbish off road, that's why dirt bikes evolved, this is a nod to yesteryear

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

meh. Ive owned several dualsports, all with aggressive offroad (but DOT approved) knobbies. Noise is hardly noticeable.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You would.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Good idea, if you don't you'll be wearing dentures before the week's out. I've ridden a bike with knobbies on pavement. It's not good.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Those are DOT legal tires— look like TKC 80’s.. I ran an even more aggressive one (D606) and would embarrass hobby riders in the turns.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The knobblies I have on my Tiger aren't too bad on pavement, but those are pretty aggressive. They're probably louder than the exhaust. :)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

IDK my bike has pretty knobby tires and goes fine on the interstate.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get a bike from the 80's and turn it into a cafe racer, it's easy and cheap...like your mom.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 2

Kawasaki ltd440 in my garage I am itching to do this with. make a café race. not bang unlike you mom. which I will totally bang

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That escalayed quickly...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bought a barn full of old Suzuki GS parts. Brother built me a GS850GL. Love that 80s feel.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am doing a scrambler build on an 86 BMW R80 right now. Can confirm it is easier than @op's mom.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m doing that with a ‘75 Honda CB500 Four right now. Looking for a donor bike at the moment.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The only bad part about that plan is no ABS. Imo the new cheaper 250 or 300 with abs is the safest way to learn

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you want safe don't build a cafe race.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Easy and cheap is not how you want to do that, unless you want to end up with a POS.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Compared to outfitting a Harley or an Adventure Bike it's inexpensive, not cheap.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What is a good website for people interested in doing something like that? (I’m no mechanic but I’m really good at putting ikea together)

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The cheapest way is to probably just buy one someone else did. They have bad resale value and no one in the US rides (so low mileage).

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Meaning as a buyer you can usually pick one up cheaper than the sum of the bike and the parts. You need to know what to look for though.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honda 450 to 750 are great for this try to get a chain drive. I use a site call "old bike barn". Youtube is great lots of videos.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get a GSXR1000 and ride top speed your first time with zero experience no helmet and sandals. Its all the rage here in Florida. Damn squids

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Stretched bussa’s here....smh

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hampton Roads area of VA was like that too. Bike night was nothing but stretched 'Busas. Sad.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I live in that area, they really are everywhere. Makes my bobber stand out mord at bike nights though

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I lived there for 12 horrible years. Got tired of having to ride 2+ hours for good roads. Boss asked who wanted to move to Blue Ridge. /1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Didn't take me long to start packin'.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ever ride deals gap?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live in Cherokee right by the park so I only have 2 minutes to go to ride the parkway on my new bike. It is awesome!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hate you, but only out of jealousy. :P We go to Fontana every year. Started as an "official" rally decades ago. Now, a handful of us.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Always upvote Triumph. Speed triple 955i here.

8 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 2

2011 tbird storm with 85k miles here. getting an 18 street triple R soon.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

First Bike I owner was a 73 Triumph Trident, Always have owned Triumphs.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Have a '04 Thruxton and an '01 Bonneville. Hell yeah

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

First motor bike I liked ever at the age of 25 - rocket 3

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Friend of mine has a 675R. Ridiculous machine. Smooth power all the way through until you piss yerself. Loved it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love my Speed Triple 94 R

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey brother. Street Triple 675 here.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I miss my street triple. That howl...

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Exactly! I love her bazooka!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

open her up, growls like a tiger!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its actually a 900 t100.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It started out as that. :P Significant changes have been made.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On the pic? Yep, a Bonneville. The 955i is my byke, I mean.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ohh right cool. Im jealous of u. I've only got the new rebel 500

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hello fello triumph owners, Daytona 675 here... best bike I ever had

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I actually dont own any triumphs, but i went from a cbr300 to a honda rebel 500.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude. Get a beater to learn on, 500 bucks, save you the trouble of dropping your new bike (which you will).

8 years ago | Likes 509 Dislikes 4

Researched this a while back - used bikes are remarkably affordable

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

When I first started riding I bought a brand new Harley 1200C. Dropped it right in the fucking dealer lot.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dropped my 98 1200 in the driveway the first time I took it out

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lies people told me that have dropped my bike yet still going strong

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Just because you've dropped your bike and didn't break anything doesn't mean it's impossible. Heavy bikes can take alot of damage from it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you sir for taking your type and typing that response, but still haven’t dropped it so suck it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

What you said. Even brand new a 125cc is about £2k, and saves you the rest of stuff breaking, includes 3y MOST, etc

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Or by a 2nd hand one for about £300 - £500 online, if you know what to look out for

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So true. Absolutely do not buy your dream bike as your first bike.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

You are in no way guaranteed to drop your bike. Regardless of what people say. 15 years of riding and I never have. Don't let it get to you.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah I’ve never dropped my 1300, even when being stupid.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i started out on a 1200 sporty that was tuned pretty damn well. only dropped in learn to ride class when teacher walked in front of me.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Purchased a Suzuki marauder. For 300. Spent about the same fixing it. House mate dropped it. Zero regrets. Loved that bike.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shit i paid 800 for my first bike like 3 years ago. Still have it and the thing runs like a top. Starting on a beater is the way to go.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

indeed, hopefully the first crash doesn't put you in a wheel chair or make you a vegetable.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, try to find an old ninja 500 or something similar. Not too much power not underpowered. Skip the 250s you will get tired quickly.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly. I spent $1,500 on a '98 Honda Shadow 750 ACE. Great shape, cheap, runs perfectly. Gonna ride it today actually!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Love my VLX!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly if you want easy practice with throttle control get a cheapo scooter. Paid like $400 and depending on state might not need license.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't quite understand how people drop bikes. Coodies?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know, i hear this a lot but in 7 years and probably 30-40k mi of riding I've not dropped mine once. I wonder how common this is?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

real common if youre a squid. im going on 8 years and 100k+ miles and no drops. ride with your big head not your little head and youre good

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here's what I've been learning on. My first bike. SuzukiDRZ400 SM. Ride on!!!

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I love supermotos!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why do they even put a front wheel on that?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

For guys who can't pull a wheelie yet, like me. Haha. Haven't mustered up the go-nads. It will happen though.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Balance when parked, mostly

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

dumbest shit ever. you dont get your license and have people telling you that youre GOING to wreck your car. dont ride like an ass, be fine

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Agree about getting something cheap for your first bike, but it is completely false that “everyone” drops their first.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bought my dream bike as a starter. Dropped it in the driveway

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Get out of my head, I did the same!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I raced for 12 years and dropped 3, not on the track.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Raced for years as well and also dropped my street bikes haha nobody is immune to gravity.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes! The physics of a bike is to fall over all the time, except when moving forward. Gotta love them though!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bought a brand new Harley as my starter, laid her down two months later and dislocated a shoulder. She still runs and looks great, though!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mine is an oldie but its one of the better sportster styles. 98 1200. Wonderful machine.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Beautiful!! I'm running a 2016 883 sportster iron. Definitely wanna upgrade to the 1200.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hell yeah, whatever moves your soul! I waited until I could afford a “nice” bike and I regret every second of not owning one before.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I got a $300 beater as my first college bike. I've had dirt since I was eight but this is my first Street. Fixing her up and getting ready!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They say when buying a dual sport/adventure bike, if you can lick it over and not want to kill yourself then it's the right one

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TERRIBLE idea to learn on a beater. Learn on a bike that handles, stops, rides, and accelerates like it ought to.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

You can find beaters that do that. We’re talking more aesthetics here, rather than bikes that shouldn’t be ridden on.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Started on a Honda cbr 125, the little rascal got me anywhere and the constant maintenance got me bike savvy

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

get beater first. i bought a brand new 07 cbr 600rr for 11k. crashed it 2x the first year. ended up selling for 3k

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Where do you live that a 600rr costs 11k? Around me they are at most 9k new. 11k can get you a 1000rr.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

long island. 9.5k plus loan fees and other shit. 07 model was the redesign. first with electronic damper. i had to wait on a list for it too

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

excellent advice.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Just picked up a beater project bike for 350. 82 kz440

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Everyone drops one at least once. Everyone.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

any good examples of a beater? actually considering buying one, I just don't know what to look for tho

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Anything bro, just get a good mechanic to check it out first. Now go, hurry up and ride! Oh, and take the safety course too, it’s worth it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fall and winter you will find gold mines no matter what you want. Go to to some dealers with someone who rides and let them know you're new

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My first was a 1984 Yahama Maxim I picked up for $600. A lot of my friends passed a Ninja 250r around when they were getting licensed.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I started on a ‘99 Vulcan 750..picked it up for less than a grand, awesome bike

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

never dropped a bike, maybe a motorcycle is not the right choice for you.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

I just took a motorcycle class to get my licence and dropped the practice bike on day two.... lets see how it goes

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you're lucky when I did my motorcycle class the deal was I you drop a bike you are kicked out of class.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably a scare tactic. They said that to us but when I tested they said that was the only time dropping would get you booted

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's just good to be safe. You don't want to be starting on a new R1 or on a goldwing or something when you have no experience. Shit happens

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

True, I started on a old 1973 Honda 125 dirtbike, I found behind a barn.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What exactly causes one to drop it? Shouldn't it be just like balancing yourself in a really heavy bicycle?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dropped mine going under 5mph in the driveway. First timer nerves and never held anything that heavy like that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

mostly thinking youre nicky hayden when youre not. but grabbing too much front brake, hitting gravel can be rough.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My experience was a lot less exciting. I tried riding off cold because I was running late and I stalled and tipped over

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good thing I'm more into cruising-type bikes. ^_^;

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so do i but triumph puts damn good brakes on its bikes. twin discs up front was one reason i bought over harley

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes I’ve been told that before and I will! Thanks, I just love this one... eventually I’ll get my hands on it, I hope! Cheers!!!

8 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 2

I've had every "hero" bike I wanted when I was younger but miss my first cheap, rashed-up 250cc the most. You'll find fun on any bike.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you buy this one straight out, you'll drop it and cry like a baby. Buy something cheap first so when you drop it (everyone does) it's ok.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ninja 250. buy it for $1k. thrash it, throw it on the ground, ride the snot out of it. sell it for $1k

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also consider getting a dirt bike to learn on. If you can handle the dirt the road isn't shit after that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is an old generation (oil cooled) eary 2000s-2015 Triumph Scrambler with a completely rebuilt front end, forks, triple tree, control 1/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You dont want that. It's heavy and underpowered, and the front wheel on there is carrying a rear tire (tkc80?) For a different bike. 2/3

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Username checks out.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Check out a Suzuki VS 650 Scrambler

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can get fairly close with an old dual sport. An XL650 or a KLR650 are both fairly cheap used and damn near bulletproof

I had one as a kid. I loved that thing then I got into building bobbers.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bobbers are cool but the dirt bike enduro riding position is most comfortable and doesn't hurt my shoulders

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had a DR650 to x-country Morocco, they're the definition of function over form. Still kinda regret letting it go, but it has no place in NL.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As is bigpeeer’s wife

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Second that. I had to get rid of my KLR650 when I moved, but that thing was awesome. Hated to part with it, looking to pick another one up.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think he may want it for the style moreso than the TKC80's. Best bet in that case is to wait for the new scramblers to drop in price.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A Suzuki GS 500 is also a nice starter Bike. Mine still runs like a charme! :)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Damn fine choice!
