My buddy’s Warhammer table is batshit insane

So we played a game on it last night

Here’s his army. I allied with him- he plays space wolves, I played Salamanders

Here’s my guys!

Here’s the bad guys. The sons of Horus and a militia army

My firedrake terminators ended up winning the day for us- we needed to kill the opposing warlord and they took him out on the last turn.

There was a pretty epic battle on this bridge.

Militia. My friend has been working on them forever and they look amazing.

Sons of Horus jetbikes!

Battle for the bridge. Seriously epic game.

Who actually buys a dreadclaw...

Into the fires of battle, unto the anvil of war!

What I think is most impressive about the Militia is how your friend managed to make that crackle paint work on the bases.

You worship a deadman upon a golden shitter. All in all the armies and the table look great.

Incredible.

I was looking to get into the table top scene, is 40k the way to go or Age of Sigmar for a new comer?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can do either. I don’t know much about AoS but 40k has Killteam which is a much cheaper way to get into the tabletop scene

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Kinda like Heroscape™

An update from another salamander! Wish I could give you more than 1

Standard rules with just cooler minis? Also the militia dudes look awesome ... so much forgeworld stuff though $$$$

Vulkan lives!

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oooooo don't see much 30k on here. This is nice, as are the effects!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I dont play, but that looks amazing. Glad you guys had a great time.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have no idea how you play this but it looks hella cool

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Short answer: you pay a $2000 to throw dice to see how good you mash your guys into the other guy's guys.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is a pretty fun game with some amazing models. not the cheapest hobby though. If you ware wanting to learn look into kill team.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

yes, Kill Team is great, like a fast playing real world X-Com

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Step 1: Log on to Steam. Step 2: Buy Dawn of War 1 + expansions. Step 3: Have out of this world fun. (Cheaper route)

How does one do Warhammer? Serious question, waiting for and epic response.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You can watch a battlereport ok YouTube to see what a game is like. My go to is the Miniwargming channel.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a serious investment in both $ and time, you purchase a rulebook for an army &many boxes of plastic figures to assemble and paint. 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 Actual game play is very similar to D&D - each unit has stats / movement range / weapons stats. Most things are d6 dice roll determined

Another YouTube channel is tabletoptactics they explain most stuff as they play too

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The photoshop after effects seriously turn this up a notch. This is wild.

Thought it was AR. I am so confuse.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

If that's what it is, then that's even better

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I swear that’s what it is

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It’s an iPhone app called lensFX, basically photoshop with a library of explosions and lens flares and stuff

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Ahhhhh I see. How do you play the game then?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want to get into warhammer soooo badly, but even just the cost of entry is a bit steep.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They keep releasing narrative boxsets with 2 playable armies generally at around half the price of the contents. Good starting points.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Play Kill team. 8th Edition is a fantastic time to get into the game, and Kill Team is cheap and fun.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lots of ways to get cheap models, and a few older box sets can get you rolling pretty cheap. If you aren't picky hit up Craigslist or ebay

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There’s also a ton of other minis games out there that are much easier on the wallet.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As other have said: Pick an army whose looks your like. Buy single box of "Troops" and you're good to go. Killteam missions use 3-20 models

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That said the single box of troops will never be the top choice and expansions unlock more and more models but its a awesome starting point

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit I’ll sell you my old imperial guard army for less than you’d buy new minis for and mine are all painted.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kill team, kill team, kill team. Low cost of entry and a fantastic jumping on point. Whole game is just a handful of models.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Super late reply, but I'm so glad you mentioned this! I'm gonna do some research!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I played when younger. wanted to get back in to it. don't have an army anymore. asked around at the local club and got someone to loan me..

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

...theirs in exchange for beers and/or coffee. people generally want more people in their hobbies. ask around where you live.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Holy Crap! Major cash investment on that table. Well done, well done.

Games Workshop will have your subpoena on your doorstep tomorrow lewis

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so. i get it, and as someone with 2k invested each in three computers i can't say shit. but you think about what you said. you have 2k>

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

invested in a bunch of colorful plastics on a table. some people just think that's crazy shit they are wrong. and compared to off the shelf>

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2k is actually way less then it could have been (hence your only i know) but man hobbies get expensive if you think about it.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Love that you guys are intense enough to play 30k still.

7 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 0

When you put that much money into minis

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Worst fucking ruleset I've ever played.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Oh is it not my little pony's island adventure? Stop bitching and go play your kids game of age of sigmar or some similar shit.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Found the butthurt 7e fanboy.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

never played 30k, can you please elaborate ?

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

30k still uses a version of 7th Ed rules. It requires a law library worth of rules manuals to get through, but SM vs SM is fun & balanced.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Basically refer to table X which refers to table Y which refers to table Z repeat ad infinitum. Many many janky rules.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

i have never played but I hear people say it is a lot like 7th edition 40k

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's based off the 7e rules. Some people say it's an improvement, but it's terrible regardless of that.
