Tree branches touching power lines

It would appear that they don’t trim the trees around power lines in your area OP

this is why overground powerlines in cities don't exist anymore... atleast here in germany. it's just not worth it and unsafe

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is how those trees are trimmed tho

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This is what happens when you don’t pay your universal phone bill, Asgardian connection is intermediate.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why trim when fire do trimming for you? *thinking*

In your title you should change “why” to “how”. Just sayin’

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, clearly this was started by a lit cigarette

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m honestly surprised this hasn’t happened where I work. It’s a lodge in the woods with tons of power lines and unkept trees

All that HOA you pay monthly and you got a tree BBQ and a hot tub pothole.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

And the camera just happened to be perfectly positioned to capture this?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Usually when it happens once it happens multiple times before the arcing burns off the offending tree branch. Camera setup is easy.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Notice the smoke at the start. Likely some smell and sound that came from it beforehand.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah someone should lose their job for this

You believe my statement reasoning was because of a comment section or rather the possibility of a fire that can spread to homes.......?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP Well, apparently they didn't.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those home owners better leaf soon!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, happened right down the street from me. I called it in and the FD thought I was kidding because I wasn't freaking out enough.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not THIS incident, but powerlines set a tree on fire down the street.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was an intern at our city power dept one summer, and get sent on rounds looking for anything remotely like this. I was amazed that one...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

couple got upset after we explained what we were doing. These idiots insisted that the tree was their property and we had no right to ...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

send a crew to cut it back from the lines. With the size of their yard, it almost certainly would hav burned their house.

Tell your damn utility to keep Diablo Canyon open. Also get your damn DOJ to investigate the illegal closure of San Onofre.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

(No offense to you personally).

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would but Seattle City Light doesn't have jurisdiction there.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fair enough lol.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Top lines are pumping 27,000 volts, you walk near that tree and it could arc from one leg to another. You'd be dead before you hit the groun

Here, have a 'd'.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Damn, man, this is 2019! You can't just walk around giving people the D without asking! At least buy him a drink first!

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I hit the character limit on that one. Couldn't fit the 'd' ?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was too big, huh?

*long

The negligence of this... damn.

Power company might just be too poor to fix it, and prevented by law from raising their prices.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Someone probably moved the powerline there as a prank

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've stopped reporting trees over power lines after the first year and no action

Exactly what it is, too

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

A branch is laying across two power lines, causing them to arc and set fire to the tree.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The fact that someone was ready with a camera to film it makes me think it was a little expected.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 19

As if this shit doesn't sound like a fucking firefight in a burning building. In space. It's loud and spectacular, you would film it, too.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I haven't heard someone say that for years

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You can see right at the start it's smoking slightly, probably what prompted someone to film it.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

totally. it's not like most people walk around with cameras in their pockets these days.

7 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 0

Moses should be chatting this up.

Its actually a miss translation- burning bush - is a synonym for a STD. God outlawed it on the third (pl/d)ate.

Best comment I've read in months.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*stomping around the desert* "Oh sure, I get a bush while that guy in Hoboken gets a damn tree!"

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

All bushes are trees but not all trees are bushes. Treeometry 101.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

grass -> bush -> tree. Bushes are not trees

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What do all bushes and trees have? Branches, trunks, leaf structures, bark. What doesn’t grass have? Don’t beat around my bush tree.
