Purpleheart

I finished this twice, the first one flew off the lathe at the last second and rolled away to the abyss

Plywood (pine ->birch)

Burned (Walnut)

Eucalyptus

This one nearly caught fire while sanding... my fingers did not appreciate the heat.

Jatoba

Jatoba is my best guess, it came from an old trashed pallet

Black Walnut

Maple

Cedar

Honey Pine

*wanting intensifies*

My favorite is the one that came from a smashed pallet. Hm. I need to lie down.

In Vintas, a wooden ring is still a wooden ring regardless how pretty.

I'm sure they've got better things to do than make wooden rings

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That actually seems easier than I imagined it would be! I'll be sure to give it a shot.

Should do one from Hedgeapple tree: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maclura_pomifera, lovely natural bright yellow wood.

I second this motion.

What do you use to shy them? I want one that doesn't end up sticky, but haven't found one yet.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most use an enamel clear spray, it does get a little sticky if wet, the purple heart is finished with danish oil, gives it less shine 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its much smoother, and doesn't get sticky

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Awesome! Thanks.

Please let me know if there is a way I can buy one. They are beautiful.

If only it took a mountain of doom to destroy a wooden ring. . .

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

touch one against the eucalyptus one after sanding, that'd melt it

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wait what?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

while sanding the eucalyptus ring, it got so hot it nearly caught fire, i had to wear thick work gloves so i wouldnt melt my fingers...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh okay. I was not connecting your sentence correctly in my head. Though I suspect my tungsten carbide band would laugh at the heat.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Still interesting though. Why did the eucalyptus get hotter?
