After all of these 'friendly' cardinal posts, I would like to set the record straight.
I study birds for a living and have to catch these bad boys all of the time.
If you can't tell already from my face, they are my least favorite bird to catch. Why?
Because they bite the shit out of your hand.
See that beak? They use it to open seeds...and bite through skin.
I never took evidence of their ruthlessness, but here's a baby cardinal. Only a face a mother could love.
If anyone is interested in learning more about birds, I'd be happy to make another album.

No :( I'm a clean freak and had a bird once to quickly learn that seeds and poop flung everywhere was not my cup of tea.

We put up these really thin nets, the bird flys into it and it catches the bird like a hammock. Doesn't hurt the bird :)

My research focuses on how vacant lots can support the bird community in cities. I determine how healthy the bird is via catching them

Yup! I work with the Baltimore Ecosystem Study. We have about 12 years of bird monitoring data for the city of Baltimore :)
