MRW I learned that Van Gogh didn't kill himself, but instead was accidentally shot by a kid, so Van Gogh acted crazy and said he tried to kill himself so the kid wouldn't have his life ruined by being arrested.

My professor told me this, so I don't know if all the little details are quite correct. But Van Gogh was deemed clinically insane all of his life, from his Mother's abuse to being an alcoholic, even the paint he used caused medical problems. But when he died he was actually getting better thanks to the hospital he was staying at (same place where he painted starry night) well one day he was in a field painting and a boy who was playing cowboy accidentally fired off a shot and hit Vincent in the stomach. Van Gogh proceeded to walk 3 miles back to the psych clinic he was staying at, when the police officers asked him what happened he said he thinks he shot himself, this was to cover for the kid that actually shot him, Vincent knew that since he was deemed insane in the past it would be a good cover, he then later died from the fatal shot.

TL;DR: Van Gogh covered a kid's ass so he wouldn't get in trouble for killing him.

No honey, no.

Never actually knew how he died. I do know he was eating his paint, 'cus he couldn't afford food, though.

But then who ratted the kid out?

Interesting. I read that Gaugin possibly slashed off his ear in a duel over a woman. Would set the precedent for this.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Its just a theory

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I went to his museum in Amsterdam. They say he killed himself.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the idea that he didn't actually kill himself isn't super new, but I hadn't heard the kid aspect. I can recommend the book by Naifeh 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 though, and there are at least 3 volumes of letters he wrote that have been preserved. Really awesome to read!

Van Gogh did not kill himself, *authors claim

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

You spend 10 years on a book, and you see it won't get a second look. So you add a dab of shit and now you've got a hit...

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

then add an asterisk to get you off the hook.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I've heard this story before, and that's all it is just a story. It's not based on any actual facts or testimonies.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

so kid, whats your family's claim to fame? "uhm grandpa shot van gogh"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+1 for doctor who

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

At this point does it really matter or not if it was true? This makes for a great story.

"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Of course it matters.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It wasn't a kid playing cowboy. 4 kids from his village decided to kill him because he was a well known weirdo. Just like kids rolling hobos

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Yea I've actually heard this, and they were known for tormenting him.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Umm, some of citation on this would be needed, to make it a little bit more credible.

I find a conversational style sometimes softens the tone. Also, I tend to see these comments as a stream of consciousness type of writing.

how long ago did you work there? Did you actually study van gogh's life or just enough to talk about paintings? I'm genuinely curious

Could you post about working there? That would be awesome.

Playing cowboy? In 1890? with a real gun? in Auvers-sur-Oise? you're professor is a douche-nozzle

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Did... did you read the source? Because unless authors and historians are also douche-nozzles, you're wrong.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

Nancy Grace can be considered an author and a historian. You're gullible.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

By the way, the Alamo was in the early 1800's, playing cowboys was not unheard of.

iN RURAL FRANCE?!

And if you think that BBC is equivalent to Nancy Grace, you're ignorant.

I've read this theory and it is interesting. However as with other counts from that time it is not proven fact.

9 years ago | Likes 105 Dislikes 2

History is a very serious genre of fiction.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can you really prove anything from that time is fact.

Well I already think highly of the man I can say. I highly recommend visiting the van Gogh museum if you ever get the chance.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

There's also a 1% chance of him being a worse person too. This is terrible fucking logic.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

It's imgur logic. People here want the world covered in pink fluff.

As it turns out, that kid grew up to be Adolf Hitler. Now you know why Hitler took up painting,it was out of guilt. Its a funny old world.

9 years ago | Likes 945 Dislikes 23

Van gogh died in 1890, Hitler was born in 1889. Soooooo....

I didn't know people were oblivious to this fact so i had to find it so people know the truth. Its something people should know really.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Neatorama.com doesn't exactly seem like the best place to find "facts", not to mention Van Gogh died in France and Hitler grew up in Austria

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wtf is that

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The facts bro, the facts!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hitler was borne 1889? So a one year old killed van Gogh. The troll is strong with this one.

I'm no troll, check the source -/a/yevBp

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Haha fair enough.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's not a source, thats a page with writing on it. Van gogh died in 1890, Hitler was born in 1889. Those are facts

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

How did Hitler kill Van Gogh in France as a child when he grew up in Austria?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

It's well-known that Hitler used to visit the French countryside as a boy with his family

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Hitler didn't shoot him. Hitler was born in 1889 and van gogh died in 90

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Don't come at me with facts, man. These are the "facts"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Shhhh!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are you shitting me ? Some sauce to back this ?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

It's not true. Hitler was born in 1889, van gogh died in 1890. So either a 1 year old shot him, or its bullshit

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Freaked me out for a couple seconds, Hitler was only a couple months old when Van Gogh died

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hitler would pretend to be younger than he was. Sadly this lie has continued until day. True scholars know he was at least 6/7 years older
