Damn, that's like conquering fear of spiders by diving into a dry well brimming with spiders.

From the thumbnail, I thought Sean William Scott and Jenna Fischer were going skydiving.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unless that plane has lost a wing or is on fire, I'm not jumping

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had a different solution: I went indoor skydiving. Indoors, we can do all the aerobatic tricks that outdoor skydiving affords. The only thing missing is the threat of imminent death (and maybe bragging rights). Oh yeah, I bet indoor skydiving is also more economical than outdoor, so we can do it longer for the same coin.

It's still there, we just deal with it. I was a paratrooper in the Army. :)

And anal sex by the looks of it.

We did have pants on.

Congratulations on stepping out of the comfort zone to try something new! I went skydiving last month, I personally had a blast, but one of my friends had a very similar take away. She was glad she did, but said she will not do it again, she liked the parachute part, but not the free fall. It's an awesome thing to experience, but it's definitely not for everyone. Glad you guys had fun, it's a great way to forge an everlasting memory.

Thank you and congratulations right back at you! Yeah, the free fall was awful. I didn’t fight the instructor at the door of the plane but he definitely gave me a “gentle” nudge out of it.

"While many people suffer from a fear of heights when climbing ladders or standing close to the edge of a building, oddly enough skydiving does not trigger this same reaction. Ladders and buildings can triggers your sense of depth, being so close to the edge makes you nervous about falling."

I have acrophobia. It took me a long time to be okay with flying; ultimately it's because I tell myself continually in an aircraft that 'I have no control. If the worst happens, it happens. My end will be swift and painless. Just breathe. I accept my fate. I embrace death.' Now, if I try to climb a ladder or anything like that, I immediately get ice cold feet and hands, my vision starts to tunnel, and if I'm high enough, I'll turn green and pass out.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

...if i'm high enough, i'll turn green and

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fear has nothing to do with the falling, it's the sudden stop at the end..

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did you survive?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How are Jim and CeCe doing?

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So weird, I didn’t realize I look like pam. I’ll take the compliment though.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Remember, if at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A fear of heights is rational. I therefore will not be jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

There is no such thing as a perfectly good airplane.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It depends. There is a healthy fear of height, and then there is phobia.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I once worked on the 32 floor of a building in Chicago. My office was along the window. Big storm came in and my window got sucked out of the building while I was working. My office is now in my basement.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I would not do it! Fair play to you!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How's your husband's arm? My arm also is often the subject of stress control.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haha, I keep my nails pretty short. I think he’s okay?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I want to go skydiving, but at 6'3" 280lbs, im apparently too big to fall from a plane safely.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just woke up, still groggy, and thought "oh look, Pam from The Office went skydiving". Neat.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm not afraid of heights. I'm afraid of widths.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Apparently I’m afraid of the vast. Heights, huge ocean waves, whales, outer space, tornadoes. Big stuff.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, it's not really the height - or the fall - that's something to worry about. It's that sudden stop at the end

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Congrats - that's on my bucket list to try too, for the same reason

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZxFCU2hEbA Please enjoy this music video some dudes I knew made on the subject

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly, I don’t get the appeal outside of just saying “I did it.”

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I don't get the appeal of winter. Yet, inexplicably, the Northeast US has way more people than anywhere else in the US. To each their own, I suppose

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who did it long time ago, I would say the thrill nd the magnificient view are unmatched. But the selling point I would say would be that it feels like you have an adrenaline "high" for the rest of the day haha.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Do you feel like you conquered your fear? or just gave it a big FU this one time?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I wouldn’t do it again, ever. I do feel like I conquered my fear and have bragging rights now, per se. lol

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I also have a fear of heights. Done a tandem jump to try and cure myself. Didn't work. Done 2 bungee jumps. Didn't work either.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bungee jumping sounds worse to me somehow. I don’t think I could do that.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s not the heights I’m afraid of. It’s hitting the ground.

2 years ago | Likes 147 Dislikes 2

I’m more afraid of the thoughts on the way down.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why worry? That part doesn't last very long.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Til like, 1000 feet away, you really don't feel like the ground is coming at you that quickly. Then stuff starts to feel very close, very quickly

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You’re always going to hit the ground, it’s the velocity that’s important

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

At terminal velocity no less

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Honestly at this point I'd be more disappointed when the chute didn't fail to open.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm the opposite. Once I'm airborne, it's out of my hands. Godspeed.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gravity. That's the culprit right there.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Gravity, not even once.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Spoken like a closeted gravity addict. I hear you haven't floated into space yet which proves your are a user!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Against my will.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Like… some fears are rational. Heights is one of them.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Heights and spiders are mine

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fear of heights alone is not very rational. Fear of falling is more rational.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you want to be pedantic, then sure.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

There's a rational fear of heights, and then there's shaking uncontrollably when climbing a ladder. I have the latter (no pun intended).

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

yea, the first time i stepped onto the steel grating while being 200 feet in the air and looked down... it was scary, but i was able to get past it. i dont like heights, im not afraid of them. the one thing thats sure to give me panic attacks is asking for help with something i think will improve my life.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

intend your puns, coward! (j/k)

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I first saw this response a couple of days ago on Imgur and plan to say it every time someone says no pun intended in real life

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

where at and how much ? (I think I paid $240 for a tandem jump like that .. Was something to do/try for fun, and it was a blast. )

2 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Yeah, we paid about $250 ish each (husband and I). We drove to Baldwin wi. From Minneapolis.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Is it awkward being pressed up against some dude like that? Asking as a person who doesn't like touching strangers.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

when I did this, being strapped very tightly to someone who knew what they were doing made me feel much safer.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No. They’re very professional.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

just noticed - ya'll are in street clothes ? They made everyone put on a flight suit for my jump. Gave us the same ultra-tight goggles. (The flight suit did make you feel like "Top Gun" though)

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah! It was weird! My husband had been a few times before and he wore the flight suit as well. The place that we went to told us to wear long sleeves and pants.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Your husband obviously didn't listen...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nothing like jumping out of an airplane with a parachute packed by people who turn a blind eye at someone who disregards the clothing rules.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have also jumped at this location. They have flight suits, but I think you have to ask for one, or they give you one if you have on bad attire for jumping. I jumped wearing my street cloths, shirt and pants. I found it to be very comfortable, I was glad I didn't have to wear a suit.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hated it, btw.

2 years ago | Likes 1455 Dislikes 12

When was this? That's badass, the photos look like they were from a while ago

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

its just a flash

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's all good, you did it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I don't need to try falling thousands of feet to k ow I won't like it.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haha same! The fear and panic I felt jumping out of the plane was not worth it at all, never again!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Great i will definitely not follow in your steps

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks,

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's fine, but you're brave and you tried it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The truest form of courage; Not the lack of fear, but action in spite of it.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I'd say that's a healthy response lol

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm bad with heights, but love the outdoors. Used to go backpacking a lot. Had, literally, to climb on my belly to precipices to look over while my friends were just standing there. Also did rock climbing, which I recommend. If you stay on belay, and if you provide belay services, you learn to trust your friends and the ropes and be able to focus on the climb and the view.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is bizarre, your comment isn't showing the op next to it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aaaaand now it is. Wtf imgur.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have mild vertigo if I step on a ladder and look down but was completely fine at my jump this summer. One of the best experiences in my life. That's the plane and us deploying

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Was it the yells where you try to sound like you're having fun, but inside, it's just "fuck.this."?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hahahaha

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

do it again

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Artist's rendition :

2 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

I just tried it and during free fall my nose hurt unless I looked way up or way down. It somehow ruined the experience.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But kudos to you for doing it! You tried something new, didn’t like it, next! Off the list. I’m too chicken albeit I do want to try it…

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ya, if it wasn't so expensive I'd like to try a bunch of indoor skydiving sessions but even though I'm not particularly afraid of heights there's no way I'm jumping out of a plane with a rag on my back

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

FWIW it will be a dual harness double parachute pack with an automatic activation device and will retail for around 8 grand.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I stand corrected, expensive rag

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Why would anyone throw themselves out of a perfectly good plane is beyond me.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

No drop zone has perfectly good planes.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the adrenaline. It's a feeling that is quite unique. It's not at all what I expected. I thought it would be like an intense amusement ride where you feel your heart going in your throat as you accelerate but it didn't. It's pure elation that lasts for minutes if not hours after landing. My free fall was 60 seconds but even after deploying you control the parachute and if you initiate a turn the parachute comes slightly lower than you and you get this sensation again.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do not have a fear of heights or really much of a fear of death. I love skydiving. It's so serene and magical.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So Im curious, as I cant fly on planes anymore without panic attacks (was totally fine with it up until age 30 then major anxiety/depression hit) - did doing this actually make you less scared now or is the fear the same but you overcame it anyway?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m so sorry, I know how debilitating it can be via anxiety. I’m really lucky where I haven’t had any issues on planes outside of being nervous during turbulence.
So it didn’t help or hurt.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did it really result in conquering the fear or is the fear still there but you did it anyway? Im curious if "more flying" would help me.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You dit it. You don’t have to do it again. Well done !

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

you also didn't have to do it before lol

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

When I went skydiving, the instructor put us into a super tight spin as we parachuted down, for “fun.” It made me extremely motion sick and dizzy and I yakked profusely once we were on the ground. Totally ruined it for me lol

2 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 1

What a douche to do that to you

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Same. I loved the skydiving part, it was awesome, but he did a tight spin right before landing and I puked for 2 hours afterwards. 10/10 would do it again (with a lot of dramamine, though)

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That sounds stupid - might have been some other reason - can't imagine a professional doing something like that to a rookie

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

If she asked him to stop and he didn't he's a dick, but its a benign maneuver that most don't react badly to, especially after freefall.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Oh! That would have been my worst nightmare.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I appreciate your candor. I'm terrified of heights and I'm convinced I would black out if I tried skydiving.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

I wouldn't even be able to make the jump onto the emergency slide to escape a burning airplane. Somebody'd have to throw me.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

When I was on the side of the plane looking down I said never mind. My instructor was like, yeah, no and just forced me out.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aaaaahhhh! Except I never would have been there, so...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is no sensation of "falling", but there is one of drowning, insofar as air is forced into your nose faster than you normally take it in, so it feels like you are drowning. No fun. Then the chute popped and it was peaceful and quiet down to the ground. I did not enjoy sky diving, but one off the bucket list.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

That’s so wild, I had a sensation of falling. It was really brief though, maybe just a few seconds?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My exact same experience.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

"Hated it"
