I like how they now allow you to edit the difficulty midgame. I like a challenge but I don't need to be raging after 200 tries

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yep, that's why I use walkthroughs if I get stuck. I want to have fun and play the story.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like to play Halo in UNSC Propaganda mode. Mister chief can one shot anything and all baddies run in terror. Also grunt birthday party ?.

I torture myself just to complete it on higher difficulty. It’s stupid I know, but the achievement feel greater.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Well of course you have that type of winning attitude since you know kung food

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Here's a tip though - if you want to have an easier time in dark souls pick the deprived as your starting class

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

What? Games are made to be enjoyed?! I don't think that's right.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yep. Stray was not a difficult game but it was fun

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Wow, that looks fantastic!

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

CASUALS!

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Gatekeeping games is stupid. :/

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Doesn't matter if you choose I'm too young to die to hurt me plenty, HEY not too rough , or Nightmare as long as you RIP AND TEAR

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I get bored if the game is too easy. Makes it meaningless and my mind wanders away from it. Difficulty gives depth most of the time.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Not really the point of the post. It's not slagging off people who like difficulty. Just the ones who shit on people who don't like it.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't like "difficulty" equating to how much hp enemies have. It just makes me feel like a lumberjack chopping aggressive logs.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depends, some have well designed difficulty at "normal", but some have to set max difficulty to get a full set of mechanical interactions.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm not enjoying playing life in hardcore mode at all

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nothing more toxic specific to gaming than "anyone who doesn't play on TURBO MASOCHISM is a WUSS who needs to GIT GUD."

3 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 4

Yes, sexism, racism, and other pathologies run rampant, but they go beyond gaming. A misogynist asshole sucks in general, gaming or no.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 13

I mean gender wasn't mentioned, and mocking people for not cranking up difficulty is gender neutral. Just straight toxic.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Hi friends, can anyone tell me how to lower the difficulty in Tinder? Normal mode is kicking my ass

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I always crank up the difficulty. When I beat a game, I wanna feel like I cured cancer.

3 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 6

This. It extends play time and gives a feeling of accomplishment that my life typically lacks.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Finally playing through god of war Nornir. Hardest difficulty first time, cuz I apparently hate myself lol. This shit is really hard lmao

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Welcome to Hell and Hell difficulty

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What always gets me is people who let other people's experiences affect their own happiness lol. So much jealousy / envy that eats them up.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

I’ll have you know I don’t *let* it happen at all!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Everyone else needs to suffer at LEAST as much as I do, or I will just SCREAM until I wet my pants." Our society in a nutshell too now lol.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Playing the game at its normal difficulty is not suffering lol

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's why I like when Easy mode is described as "For those who just want to enjoy the story," instead of trying to shame the player.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Sometimes fun is being challenged. Sometimes fun is decreasing the challenge to enjoy the story.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Jim Sterling getting screamed at for weeks for saying "it'd be fine if other people played Dark Souls on easy". 'Cos it would.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

DS fans are so bad they're now one step below Nintendo fanatics. From had to do interviews clarifying that Armoured Core was NOT Dark Souls.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

First time I played Witcher 3, I couldn't get past the first fight with the Ghouls. 2nd play through I cranked it up to Death March all game

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

(except the part in the caves with Keira, and the hounds)

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Playing DeathMarch because I like to improve my skills. Super fun and rewarding. Then got to Yen's Djinn and get one-shotted 50 times in a >

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That Toad boss in the first DLC was hardcore too!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Row. Takes me 5 hours to beat that round, over 300 deaths and reloads. Thinking fuck that! Look it up after to avoid spoilers- game bug. Fuu

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is one of the reasons I like games that let you change the difficulty whenever you want. Let's me challenge/relax whenever I want~

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I don't know why all games don't do this! But the ones that ask you whether you want to switch to "easy" every time you die can fuck off!

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I remember some game that did adjust difficulty on the fly, up and down, without notice. That was infuriating.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Definitely. Especially when they do that after a few deaths, and you don't notice so you accidentally click "Yes".

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this is why I choose multiplayer. Maximum difficulty. Minimum fun.

3 years ago | Likes 362 Dislikes 2

I play only with randos for the maximum capacity to hate my own very existence.

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I play mp and while yes its often toxic, the fun is proportional to the challenge to me. I find SP games often boring but thats just me

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

3 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 0

I like multiplayer cause it’s unpredictable, Doing the same missions, the most efficient way every time gets old

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

To be fair, that also describes some MP genres.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’ve been forced to play COD with friends. I’m terrible at it.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

to be fair , you're really good at MP

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

did you go thru my DMs? this is true

...then teabags your corpse, calls you a racial slur, and says he fucked your mom.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

“BUt dHeY sChUd Get G0Od!” - every single dark souls gatekeeper when you mention the game would be fine with an easy mode.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 6

Not even saying "it would be better with an easy mode" but simply "the game would not be ruined by an easy mode existing!"

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

"B-b-b-b-but how will I make my pee-pee feel bigger if I can't be better than a stranger at a video game??"

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

I like to start games on a harder difficulty so I am used to it, and if things are too hard later you can always back down a bit.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I admit, I played the Halo games on Legendary just for the achievements. I got really frustrated (and my son STILL laughs about this) when >

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I tried to play on Normal and kept getting killed, and had to switch back to Legendary.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And typing it out just now, I realized it may have something to do with aim assist. On Halo Anniversary, I turn off aim assist, because >

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the Halo series' aim assist is WAY too aggressive.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a console player, I love aim assist and bullet magnetism UNTIL I'm trying to aim at a target right next to/just past an enemy.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean, for most people, the objective of games is entertainment and stress release, not increasing your stress and adding frustration.

3 years ago | Likes 418 Dislikes 8

yea exactly, increasing the enemy health just means I have to click a button like 10 more times, whats the point.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is what I tell my teen when she is laughing at me for playing Skyrim on novice. It’s literally the 2nd video game I’ve ever played.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At the same time, playing against brain dead AI is absolutely boring. I need to be challenged and overcome actual obstacles.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I go to the park to play basketball I want competitive games, I don't want to play against 2nd graders.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I find games completely unsatisfying if not outright boring if I am not challenged. Like reading a book that's just a bunch of blank paper.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

like, if I wanted to go for a peaceful walk, I can go outside for that, and it's way higher graphics and more interactive. A game should

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

require my engagement.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You've never played Darkest Dungeon I take it.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For me games aren't fun if there isn't some challenge. I usually play one level above normal, so it's not frustrating but also not boring.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, but being challenged enough to keep the mind occupied is how some people relieve stress. Nothing against people who don't, just 1/

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

saying catharsis through video games takes many forms. Sometimes I like chill, relaxing stuff, sometimes I like to get my ass kicked.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

I mean, the jist of this whole thing is pretty much "to each their own" so you do you.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I know, I'm just explaining how it's difficult games can be a form of stress relief as well instead of a source of it.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

For most people, the challenge is what makes it a game and not just an interactive story

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ever since StarWars PodRacer, racing games gone bit to fast for my anxiety... I'm no Darrell

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just throwing it out there, RE4 on the Quest 2 is seriously amazing. I'm not big on VR but that game is a 10 in my book. How VR should be

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't know they had RE4 in VR on quest 2..

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on the game, some games are more immersive on the hardest difficulty. I.E. getting shot once vs 100 times to die.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Entertainment OR stress relief OR both. I enjoy the competitive nature of games, I also enjoy the relaxed chill/ grind of other games.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I prefer fixed difficulty games, because I want to be challenged but be given the tools to succeed by the developer

3 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 2

Ahh, so all the Dark Souls games.

3 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Definitely my preferred way to do it, though a Morrowind remake with competent AI might make me swoon.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I tried a no level run of Elden Ring. And scarily enough you still need to add more restrictions because even lv1 is op.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Skyrim, but too many difficulty settings

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

More of a Morrowind fan, they removed too many options in Oblivion and Skyrim

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Skyrim doesn't have a difficulty setting, it has a "how long do you want to deal with the asinine combat?" setting

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this is also the case in Oblivion and Fallout 3 and 4.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn't the difficulty increase damage too?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it increases damage taken by object 14, though I've found the scaling to be basically irrelevant

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's how story mode is for me with many games

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I’m of the opinion that games should come with the option to drastically reduce difficulty for accessibility

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes, yes, yes! Thank you. I'll never claim to be good at games, but I love the ones I can play successfully

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Trying to phrase this in a way that doesn't come off as insulting because I'm genuinely curious, you find the "tell me a story" challenging

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

When I played Keyna I had to reduce the difficulty level to story mode. That game had some unreasonably difficult parts.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I don't have great reflexes and I get frustrated if I die over and over

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I play story mode usually because I don't really care and like you said, just having fun

3 years ago | Likes 100 Dislikes 3

If the mechanics suck/are laggy the difficulty is baked in. Bosses in 2022: Large health pool, uninterruptible, kills you in 1-3 hits…

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Player characters in 2022: weak, feeble, use every ability, make a cool combo, use your ultimate! Boss might be at 80% and interrupted you.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

More games should have a story mode. Sometimes i just want to enjoy the story, not bang my head against a brick wall for three days straight

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yup. Of course that just makes it all the more frustrating when I get stuck because there's no "even easier than story" setting.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Occasionally games have a "do you want to skip this" option after many fails. I've never been so defeated and relieved at the same time

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I call that a "you suck" meter. Fail enough times and the game either adjusts or lets you skip outright. Best if it's an option, though.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

when that happens I always tell myself there's a solution. There's always a solution and it's usually close by

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If all else fails, the internet is close by too. If you got stuck, others did too. Some of them asked.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

exactly

I suck my binky with pride thank you

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fun fact: William J. Blazkowicz (the main character in Wolfenstein) is the grandfather of Commander Keen

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And the Doom Slayer is a descendant (unspecified exactly) of Commander Keen!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(this gif but just imagine it's BJ instead)

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I love imagining BJs

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That means bottom difficulty has a lot of teeth

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And you wonder why this community CRIED when they found that players were cheesing 2016 with "Rich get richer" + max armor = unlimited ammo

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Wolfenstein 3D 2016?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doom 2016. "Rich get richer" rune + 100 armor = unlimited ammo. Really fun, but the scrubs complained...and now its gone in Doom Eternal.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think you missed the point. The comment had Wolfenstein 3D diff levels. You just said 2016 not doom 2016 hence the joke name Wolf3d 2016.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

doom eternal kinda lost me.. really limited ammo, that's not doom.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ageed. i played doom2016 through multiple times with self made limitsion ( only bullet weapons . no armor pickup etc) but eternal was bad 1
