Need to post dash cams also!

Most countries used a variant at one time or another. I used to maintain and test ones for the RAF many years ago using 2 RR Derwent engines

Trying it here I could see me shooting backwards down the road screaming the whole time!

I'm no rocket scientist, but I hope they get hot enough to evaporate the snow, otherwise you'll have really icy roads

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

They wont melt the snow, they just blow it away.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was any one else thinking of BJ's when they saw this

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm convinced Russia is more a state of mind than a country

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is the same shit as those "Russian Space Pencils". Sounds awesome, but is pretty stupid in reality.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mig-15s are from like the Korean War...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess you could say Russia is feeling the burn.

Why not freaking bears with freaking laser beams on their freaking heads?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

While Russia was playing around with glorified hairdryers America studied the blade; and while you were on the side of the road 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

drinking your vodka we were putting on chains.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Noticing a loootttt of pro-russian posts lately...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

yeah, but it takes more oil and fuel. although they make things better, they use more materials.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jet fuel can melt snow beams

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Are you really that stupid. That's not for public space! It's used on airports, as I in every other country as well and even in NASCAR

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aaaawwwww those little guys are so cute, here's their big daddy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM3IDkIzp2w&feature=player_embedded#!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The soviets also had jet engines for disinfection of tanks from possible NBC threats.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are enough "freakings" in there to put a third grader into cardiac arrest.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well at least there's no snow on the runway. Only a big puddle of water in freezing cold temperatures.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What could go wrong? It's not like water can refreeze.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's bad ass as fuck

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not epic, it's stupid. If you can't figure out why, secondary school science is calling to you.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I would argue that 'epic' and 'stupid' can overlap a great deal, especially when jet engines are in play. Can, not should.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

These machines have a niche otherwise they wouldn't be used.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They sublimate snow and ice and can be used where a regular snowplow otherwise couldn't. You should work on your critical thinking skills.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How do you drive forward if the jet engine is pushing you backwards?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

it isnt full power

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But I bet they can go REALLY fast in reverse if they have to.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cold war.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did they consider the re-freeze?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cue the ice and flooding...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You've clearly never lived where it snows...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The real issue is they aren't paying Rolls Royce all due royalties for using the engine.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The USA also uses jet engines for snow removal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJzPvXmg1P8

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

ya well, nascar does the same thing to dry the tracks after a rain during a race. so there

9 years ago | Likes 145 Dislikes 2

Why?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah. Russia uses them for utility work, we use them for convenience in family entertainment. 'Murica.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Russians don't use them on public roads, but at airports, and so does the US

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Now they use giant vacuum cleaners

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

ah, you can tell I dont follow nascar much. youre right and those things look downright silly

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Then why quote it as a fact, you silly goose?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

You were right they use both.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because your drivers are too scared to drive in the rain.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 11

You'd be scared too if you tried driving one of those things.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

One word, "hydroplaning."

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

No, that's driving ON the rain !

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I don't think you understand how tires work.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

You mean ones with grooves in them like they use in other high speed motorsports in order to race when it's wet?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

There are a few types of motorsport that do no run in the rain. Drag racing, moto GP are two examples.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Most race series don't have high banked curves that are run at 160 mph. The contact patch of a smooth tire is needed to drive properly.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

but watch out for montoya https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFm6o-qB6T4

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Crazy.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nascar didn''t have to basicly nick the engine design first.. the VK-1 is basicly one of the 40 RR Nene's we (uk) sent them, reworked 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

for soviet metal tech/etc. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Why downvote? It is the truth, look it up. After ww2 UK had the shit, excuse me, bees knees, when it came to jet design.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And as robbie coltrain put it in "coltrain, planes, and automobiles" then the americans gave the jet sex appeal.. ;)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah in hindsight that wasn't the smartest move now was it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Nope. Sending them a set of Dewents, Nenes, etall was probably the dumbest move for a UK government till this year.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plus a factory visit with a machine shop tour if i'm not mistaking?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plus a factory visit with a machine shop tour if i'm not mistaking?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't remember, but I suspect that's nothing compared to having multiple examples to reverse engineer

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Until the water freezes, and you've got yourself a nice coat of ice to work with.

9 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 4

Yep. Black ice, which then gets snowed over. A lovely thing really. Winter tyres, chains, spiked tyres? Everybody is equally fucked.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gosh if only we had something that can blow a lot of heat outwards.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Salt

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Dont use salt on airports

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn't work when it's below -7 Celsius or so.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Pure salt around -8. Combination with liquid something shit.. -10~ Its the worst, hate salt on roads

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're stopping the use of salt here due to the damage it causes.
