I usually take very good care of my glasses. The one time I happened to fall asleep with them on, the hinge holding the arm bent, and the screw came out. I was lucky with such an easy fix, the hinge just had to simply be bent back in shape, and put in a new screw.
I decided to go to the optometrist where I bought them, and they said they could fix it no problem. I waited about fifteen minutes before the woman comes back to the front, with both of the arms now broken. I was livid. She tried to say that if have to get new frames, as they had an at your own risk policy. She never mentioned it to me before she began to fix it. I was panicked, because I have terrible vision and no coverage. I live in Canada, but even glasses here cost 200 for decent ones.
I keep complaining until another woman shows up. She gives the first one a stink eye, then tells me I can get new frames free of charge, since I had only gotten them when I did have coverage. Luckily they had them in stock, and set the old lenses right there and then. Problem averted.
TL;DR Glasses broke and were replaced with soccer mom attitude

That was a truly tedious story. Plus one...

A decent set of glasses start at around 100-200 in the US too. Yeah, without coverage.

Eyebuydirect and zenni are where I buy my glasses. Zenni is good for cheap prescription sunglasses.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I probably would have had to be hauled away by security when the first woman said, "At your own risk".

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know i figured a supposed "professional" would be skilled in fixing something i had no confidence in doing. I figured wrong.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Selfless plug, buy from go-optic.com we ship to Canada and have good prices. I make all our prescription glasses. Eye doctors suck at repair

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i have these http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/wpUAAOSwD0lUgllI/s-l500.jpg they stopped making them, so i cant get prescription glasses

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

otherwise i'd keep them forever. they weigth nothing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Glasses are such a pain to take care of but i have had them for so long I can't think of living without them

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got my glasses maybe five years ago. Took great care of them, the first week, a huge scratch on the "anti scratch coating." Lost all fucks

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

See i get scratch prpof on my shop glasses only because i cant see out of them about a month after getting them if i dont.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

try using lexan tape. there's a few that are flexy enough to protect your glasses without warping.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The nosepads fell off shortly after, and they charged me for anti glare coating, which I did not get. I knew never to go there again.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"accidentally", damn optometrists

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

if you dont have insurance try a website like eyebuydirect, zennioptical, or goggles4u. way cheaper than any store i know.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Im in the process of getting insurance. Im a temp at the moment, one month to go

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

still a good idea to check them out. most accept insurance too so you get better glasses for cheaper/free

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Opt asst here! Unless you're warned up front, they have to replace them for you! No warning=no knowledge of risk. Don't leave until you 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

speak to someone in charge and just like any other purchase, if you make a big enough stink they WILL bend!! Any eye related questions??

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My daughter has had glasses since she was 3 months old. +10.5 Rx and astigmatism Wears contacts now that cost $300 for a 3 month supply.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why do people drop the infinitive.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Glad that wasnt expensive. Coule have been expensive though.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Glasses4u.com I got 2 nice pair for 29.00 and they send a new one for free if you dont like them and you keep both.

Lasik it is awsome

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Agree

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless you have a condition called Uveitis, like me. Lasik isn't the fix for everyone.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unless you have large pupils. I cried when I found out I couldn't get lasik or prk

Make sure you talk to your doc about how it'll effect your vision first. My uncle is a gunsmith, got it done but didn't know that /?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What they were going to be doing is setting the lens in your eye at one setting, he can't see up close and can no longer do his work.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have no issues seeing up close before or after. Some of that is age related to. I can do reading glasses when I reach that point

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's all relative, man. I had a 7 hour Board Exam on Monday and surgery today. I win for now!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@op Google zenni optical, I never pay more than $25 for mine. If you normally get high index, medium index is fine. Seriously!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Eyebuydirect.com. cheapest I've ever gotten them for. It almost feels like Stealing lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Zenni Optical, I've never had any problems.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ordering online is amazingly simple. Definitely try it out. You can literally buy 8 different pairs and throw 7 away for less than 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

just 1 normal pair from your optometrist.. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just finished building my own Hot Sand box to bend frames with! Works good. No more having to bother the opto.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

LensCrafters?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TIL glasses have arms

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mhm. Its like they're giving your face a hug, constantly

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh that's so cute !

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My local glass place had sold me frames that the lenses would pop out of regularly. They got so fed up with fixing them they replaced 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Them, and stoped selling that model of frame because everyone who bought them had the same problem.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Literally there was one times I had picked out glasses and had them sent to a lab to get the lenses put in. While at the lab the frames 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Cracked and i was forced to buy a whole new pair

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

What? The store didn't cover it for you? Same thing happend to my mom, and they actually gave us a discount because it took so long.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry that took so long to finish i was getting widsom teeth removed lol. Its been a REALLY bad few days

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

My husband had the same problem. We went in to get his reshaped and they nicked the lense while reshaping. They went from replacing just 1/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The frame at our cost (thank you health extras cover) to replacing the whole lot at their cost.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never heard them called "arms" before and was VERY confused. I've always heard/called them "bows".

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like to think of them as arms, because its like my glasses are giving me a hug, constantly

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Omg that's great. Doing this from now on cuz I could really use a hug.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Legs. Grab them at the ends, spread them wide, and shove your face right in there.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hi @op, as a person who used to wear glasses, have a cheap spare. Even 15 ears ago i was able to buy nice pair for less than $50 w.lenses.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My prescription shop glasses are my spare pair lol theyre just ugly as shit

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also things have gotten a lot more expensive since 15 years ago. And i dont how i feel about buying online quite yet

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think 49dollarglasses became 39dollarglasses, lol. All i had to do is provide them with my prescription.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hate to sound like a commercial but check out zennioptical.com You can upload a picture, sans glasses, & "try them on" Only one caveat

8 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 2

I use them all the time, $26 for glasses that last 2-5 years on avg

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Zenni is great, bought a couple of frame only from there, pretty cheap and good quality

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Does 49dollarglasses still exist? My family uses them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Love that place. Was able to buy 5 pairs (2 are transitions) for my two (clumsy) kids for less than the cost of one pair with insurance.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This! Last 3 pairs have been awesome. Get some help with your pupilliary distance. Most I've spent is $70 on my prescription sunglasses.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yup, Zenni is pretty awesome. My last pairs of glasses from them got my prescription better than the pair I got from the optometrist.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

^ This, I get all my glasses from here. I get my eyes checked at CostCo then shop online here. $200 got me 3 pairs of glasses. 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

and a set of sunglasses. (With the eye test included in that price) 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Measuring your pupillary distance correctly is a bit tough. They'll mail you a little ruler free.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Pro-tip: Ask your optometrist for the pupillary distance when you get your prescription. They'll give it to you and then you're good to go.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Walmart typically will do it for free (I hate walmart personally) target sometimes too.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You just email them an image of your prescription from your eye doc.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Protip - get medium index instead of high index, save $75 you're welcome

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was going to mention this as well. Zenni is fantastic. Definitely affordable and great selection

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Zennioptical(.com) is a fucking godsend. At the optometrists/regular store, my - 14/-21 glasses cost around $700 including frames and lenses

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Get the upvote you deserve. They save my wallet all the time.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn and I thought my -7.5 was bad. I'm curious, do your glasses still brig you up to 20/20?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My latest prescription is iffy with my worst eye, but up until the 20's, my optometrist had me covered completely. 20/20 until last year

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And my zennioptical ones don't go over $100. All the options and stuff are available, so next time you need new ones, you can probably get

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Them at 1/7th the price. You can also just get frames, which are usually $5-30.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh God, I sound like an ad.
