I was thinking (A dangerous pastime, I know)... I saw this on the front page a while back and I have decided to try a short Pathfinder adventure using this setup, which could always span into a longer campaign depending on how the players feel. While I have a slight idea in mind for the story, I was hoping to get some input from you all.
What I would like help with: the characters! Name, race, class, personality quirks maybe, stats if you want. Level 1 characters to start :)
TheManInTheWall
Ian Vaughaun, human, extremely irritating, practical joker, trapper, carries homemade grenades that often detonate by accident
d0o0o0d
Mike Litoris, halfling rogue. Into tall women and long skirts. Gets a new piercing after every successful burglary.
Equifax
No lie, i have a pretty sweet Kolbold Wild magic Sorcerer that would be fun to make someone use. It is 5e though.
Bzerka
Gromik the orc who was raised by humans and is disgusted by orcs and/or anything orc related.
TommyWa
You may want to charge that phone.
Talonotw
Balasar Pyrewing, dragonborn monk who, while suffering his memory loss, opened a brothel.
BMuff
Also is under a vow of chastity
Adonray
Actually my husband is playing a game like this, all character have amnesia and they have to find our who they are..its pretty cool
Kittynomnoms
I could probably never run a campaign like that... All my players take too much joy in crafting their characters themselves.
CrowInTheSky
I actually ran this, but with WoD: the party were amnesiacs who woke up in a room with a dead body and had to work out who they were.
CrowInTheSky
...and what kind of supernatural shit got them there.
Zchxz
Aurelius Sprocketsbottom, a gnomish tinkerer who made a pact with an ancient toolkit (i.e. warlock, could be cleric/pally though).
Zchxz
The idea is he's great at tinkering but doesn't really know why. "The tools speak to me".
Zchxz
"Well that's great that you have an innate talent!" "No. They literally speak to me."
Spanked84
There is/was a group doing this at my local game shop. Wonder if this is how the dm got the idea.
TheManInTheWall
Rip off a couple of Terry Pratchett Discworld characters
PudgyPinkiePie
Yeah
NeighborlyAdvice
I would play this.
Derroth
Azurite Dusklorn - a Bard that has a strange urge to always make desserts to woo any pretty elves (male or female).
SugarSmack
A paranoid schizophrenic gnome artificer who hears voices and has an itchy trigger finger.
SomethingSomethingTraLaLa
A bard who is actually tone deaf, so everything he does has an extra chance of going horribly wrong, and he lures kobolds...
OphelianAshe
Cacofonix?
francy1535
For the Gaston quote alone, I tip my hat to you sir
NachoMist
Upvoting for Beauty and the Beast, good on you @OP
Chimponzoo
I did a game where I gave each player a set of stats, and tracted there actions. The after 4 games gave them 2 class options. It went wel
ImWonderingIfIllEverGetMyOwnUsername
A fucking angry dwarf cleric who is just so fucking racist
SSBMO
Who's gay
noctynight
A gnome sorcerer or wizard who doesn't believe in magic.
Armorfinish
I did that whole extremely racist bit with a gnome thief and named it keemstar

WhyAmIHereIShouldBeWorking
Where the fuck did you get my character sheet from?!
PeterTurboIronCage
This is literally the driving force behind my current campaign... Duavar hates gnomes, tiny magic cunts...
TastyToasti
Literally my current dnd character, just add greedy to the list
jumpermadge
Take out the cleric part and you've got our president
Nivison
Alright listen up, if anyone tries to mess with my BITCH boy over here...
Mumalot
and fucking spews out fuck every other fucking god damn fucking word, FUCK!
COShepard
i have made this character before and i called everyone a heretic for not believing in my god
RAGESTARVED
refers to undead as "spooks"
ihavealteredmyusernameagainprayidontalteritanyfurther
If I were the DM you beard would be constantly getting burned off so you would be mocked by all the other dwarves.
IWasToldThereWouldBePie
Go look up Order of the Stick, a webcomic.
pretendimclever
I don't play dnd but I upvoted for the Disney reference
rebel13459
Anslow skiddywinks, a gnomic bard who is so damn charismatic he can lie his way through everything but forgets and is now super honest
Enohpoxas
An oversized goblin/small humanoid creature (I don't know if goblins exist either n the DnD universe), who everyone finds hilariously ugly.
Enohpoxas
Btw, I could want to join if possible... Somehow.
Hyperkid0326
I made a dragonborn barbarian, silver dragon lineage. Abandoned and raised by a temple, but the temple people were assholes.
mebe21
I've got a silver dragonborn barbarian in my group with amnesia. I made up his backstory for him. He wasn't happy when he found his >
mebe21
< people well into the campaign and had to choose between a quest to save the world and his wife and son.
artemasrukh
only issue
artemasrukh
"If I can't know my character, can I see what race mark is? I'll tell him after."
adjacentengels
I would think you would know anything visually identifiable (race, general str/dex/cha) but not knowing specifics would help deter metagame.
kraeftig
You could give them general nonspecifics through a self inspection. E. G. "you have claws for hands", "the big Rock was easy to lift"
adjacentengels
Exactly, but if they have knowledge of their world some of that wound result in direct knowledge (races, for example).
kraeftig
A total mind wipe would leave them without the name for the race, until someone let's it slip. Only reasonable a dm could withhold it.
RichardManeuver
How would a character not know they are dragonborn? This idea is bad and you should feel bad?
kraeftig
Well, it's easy to tell you don't look like the others. What race that is called, however...
RichardManeuver
"Hmm... I look like a big scaley monster man. I must be an elf"
gorillaClutch
i always loved the personality traits from GURPS. one guy in our group took kleptomania, he had to roll a check to NOT steal stuff.
Galacticism
Pardon, what is GURPS?
imadethisaccountforthisthing
Generic universal roleplaying system, basically a set of rules like dnd but with the idea of working in any setting
MechanusIncarnate
It is a set of mechanics (similar in concept to dnd) but the rules cover everything from magic to motorcycles, and swords, and dropships.
gorillaClutch
my personal favorite was "bully" if you thought you could win a fight with someone you had to be shitty to them, party members included
ShiftedStar
That is a kind of "party member", that, in-character, we had to have a very compelling reason not to beat up together and kick out.
gorillaClutch
I mean in role-playing it basically meant we never called anyone by their actual names, just various nicknames
gorillaClutch
It played out like having Dr. Cox as a party member. Your not supposed to start fights. Rping it without actually pissing people off was
gorillaClutch
A fun challange
thedogemperorofmankind
I haven't ever played Pathfinder, so I don't know the available classes and races - adapt and homebrew as needed. but basically... a young
thedogemperorofmankind
ectomancer, whose only innate magical talent is seeing, talking to, and channeling the energy of ghosts. his magic is more powerful than
thedogemperorofmankind
that of any ordinary mage, but he cannot work spells himself - he must find a ghost that corresponds somehow to what effect he wishes to
thedogemperorofmankind
achieve, and talk that spirit into sacrificing their existence in the twilight next to this mortal plane as he can take the power of a
thedogemperorofmankind
willing spectre and store it in himself for a few days to unleash whenever needed, but the ghost perishes for it. want to cast a fireball
thedogemperorofmankind
that mages a mage three levels higher jealous? find the ghost of someone who died in fire, convince them to move on into the everafter, and
stoutde
I've always enjoyed the idea of beginning with one level of commoner, then taking a class level after first adventure.
RancidRance
There's some 5e homebrew for Classless that works for that.
Dusk17
Read NPC, it's where the npc's become the adventurers after the players suffer a TPK due to poison mushrooms.
gailan572
Shadow of the Demon Lord characters start at level 0 and don't choose a character class until after their first adventure.
PandraPierva
There was a webcomic about that kind of thing but with goblins...kind of like it..
IFoldlyGo
Imagine running an adventure where all the PCs are Commoner class, and the only way to get any other class is at a school. Good luck
Whitepinapple
You have not read the commoner DnD story where an entire town of players gets slaughtered by a rat b/c they started with no lvls
AxelYamanaka
With the chicken infested flaw?
stoutde
Had to Google; that's funny but I don't think it would be conducive to my kind of game :)
AxelYamanaka
What do you mean being able to instantly summon a shit-load of chickens isn't appropriate for the tone of your game?
stoutde
Maybe what I read isn't what you were thinking. What I found is a 50% chance any object you attempt to retrieve is a chicken instead.
AxelYamanaka
And removing an item from your bag or putting an item in your bag is a free action. So, you can just keep trying it infinitely in a turn.
stoutde
It builds the answer to the question, "why am I an adventurer?".
doubleormuffin
That's usually what player-created backstories are for, and they jump into the adventure with it already decided, but I kinda like the idea
stoutde
I tend to play with people who have ever intention of building a back story "uh, eventually, when I'm not busy"..
doubleormuffin
That's totally fair. Plus, backstory building is hard, especially in a world of someone else's creation with which you're unfamiliar
stoutde
Yeah. I don't begrudge them at all. Just seems like we're all busy and everyone else has nothing but time!
Kittynomnoms
That's why if you're doing a homebrew campaign/world, you do a session 0 where you let your players come up with their backstories 1/2
denigreur
That's why you give a general backstory and let the GM run with it. If you're too specific and narrow, you don't give him creative freedom
