Business are closing early because they afraid that Ben Shapiro in UC BERKELEY speech will make riots from the people who supposedly are pro free speech..??!! how did we come to that?

You are all full of shit.

Some people are dicks and will cause shit for any reason.

People have no jobs, and thinks they're entitled to "free speech," and "peaceful protest." It's not free, and usually it's not peaceful.

Freedom from opposition and consequence is not guaranteed by freedom of speech. Try looking into the nuances of what you're talking about.

Rioting is not a valid consequence to speech. No body is arguing against the idiots who sit outside the lecture peacefully protesting 1/2

You have absolutely zero right to stop people from listening to someone you don't like.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Blatant attempt to instigate is blatant.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

You are right - we should ignore it and not discuss it , just keep doing our BE-E-E and ME-E-E and "Like" kittens

Raising an issue to discuss it is different than instigating an argument.

Have you been living under a rock? People have been using Berkeley as a stage for IRL political shitposting ever since the election

Berkeley and Portland, problem is only like 100 people show up in support of him and thousands show up to denounce them, instead of ignoring

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was under impression that free speech is one of America basic values.. probably i was wrong

I feel like ultimately you're just attempting to push a thinly veiled narrative here.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The president likes to call free speech "fake news"

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's a right, one the government has begun to limit with designated "free speech areas" but both sides have the right to their free speech.

Not at Berkeley.

Except a university cancelling your speech isn't about free speech, a government censoring you id

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Berkeley is offering counseling to ppl got offended by Ben. Are those the future engineers/scientist ? can't handle opposite opinion . damn

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Well 1.) Gov't isn't infringing so it's not a 1st Amendment issue 2.) free speech still exists and rioting is totally illegal

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 6

The First Amendment protects the existing moral right of free speech from government interference, it doesn't create it.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

The 1st specifically deals with interactions between the government and citizens. Free speech does not solely exist in that context.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It amazes me how many people think the concept of free speech is limited by the first amendment.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually it's a public university so if they were to lets say just ban Ben Shapiro with a valid reason they would then get sued and lose 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

because it would be breaking the first amendment. This is from the administrators mouths not just mine. Starting at 6 minutes 2/3

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

what does closing a business have to do with free speech.?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

There was concern that antifa would cause riots because they wrongfully think Ben Shapiro is a neonazi (he actually gets death threats from

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

2. actual neonazis quite often because he constantly calls them out for the shitbags that they are)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Businesses are worried of escalation from protest to riot like in a previous event. Safer to be away from a mob regardless of views.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you can replace things, not life.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Rioters will destroy everything around them, in response to Ben's speech, because they don't want him to present opposite opinion

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 6

but still them closing the store is not stopping him from expressing his 1st amendment right not the protesters rights ad well.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

he's just protecting his customers. he's got insurance to replace things, you can't replace a life.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, and that's not why.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

So who gonna cause the damage and why then?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Yes that's exactly why. Berkeley almost cancelled his speech because they were worried about Antifa being shit heads

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can't pretend the only group that's caused 100k damage to shops and the school isn't Antifa

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

And you can't pretend that all who do shit are antifa (mam description). If I want to discredit any movement all I have to do is get a

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

group together to smash windows at every single protest, and now they can be condemned?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

You said "rioters will destroy everything around them". Even in an actual riot that's not true.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

I'm sorry, you didn't say what I quoted, the person I was responding to did.
