As good as it is, I feel like this moment’s purpose in the film was to simply harken back to Gandalf’s better encouraging speech in Fellow.

The reason why I think the directors of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy didn't understand the books, kept dragging in Elven lords for the win.

I loved this quote. Big things are made up of lots of little things, for every wonderful person who changes the world, there was a kind, -

I think that's true, but the thing is we have to proactive and pre-emptive with it. When we've already sown our own enemies kindness may (1)

But actually Tolkien, this line was never in the books. But still a good quote
dontstoretheketchupupsidedown
It actually makes it better that it was Tolkien... I don't know why someone made it Gandalf.
LetMeWriteYouaCzech
He actually says it in the movies. I never knew Tolkien said it himself, that's really neat!

And keep in mind, he is of the maiar. Truly a profound statement.

Yeah for real. That's some hocus pocus. Great line.

It's also something he would just say to rally the people behind him.

Inspiring the flame in people's hearts was his particular talent among the Istari, as I recall. (The elven ring probably didn't hurt either)

Yeah, dumbledore is pretty wise.

It was pretty cool how Doubledoor trained King Arthur to fight Shrek too.
Great quote but Gandalf never said this in any of the books. (Yes, I'm that person.) It's from the author!

It might be Ryan Gosling's mom.
It is said in the movies, however. So take that as you will.
It would be unfortunate if we were to ever consider the movies as the definitive versions of these stories.

Especially in regard to the Hobbit movies.
Mb title should be peter Jackson then
Not your fault there's like a million of these quotes floating around... I'm just a fkn nerd who loves the books.
Tbh I love the books but I love the movies more... it’s all filmed in my home country and I grew up watching lotr movies

Take Mister Rogers, add Lawful Good magic, results in Gandalf.

Gandalf just proves that Paladins have been playing Lawful Stupid and Lawful Pompous all along.
AzeaBraxi
Paladins are awesome! Just ... most people playing them don't understand why and make them horrid. PALADIN SOLIDARITY!
daimomusic
Paladins are awesome. I love the Warrior of Light Archetype from Pathinder
Exactly. Lawful Good is as complex as ethics, but most paladins are played as judgmental and narrow-minded. Gandalf is a better example.

Sturm was great, but still two complaints. 1) written, not played 2) character is decent but railroaded by oath into a bit of a cliché.
I mean, Gandalf was written, too, but my thoughts were more along how people play paladins. *shrug*
Well, Sturm was the character played by one of the members of Weis & Hickman's D&D group at TSR.
I do agree that he was a bit of a cliché, but I also think it's kinda natural, given how the paladin class was depicted in AD&D 2nd ed.
