Lake Erie's 'Liquid Mountains' captured in photos

Jan 25, 2018 1:19 AM

The photographer behind these amazing shots is Dave Sanford.

Sandford has worked to capture the ocean-like waves created by winter storms in Lake Erie in his photo series "Liquid Mountains." Sandford began the series in 2015 and, when conditions are right, he continues to add to it.

Lake Erie is incredibly polluted, people who live near it refuse to eat the fish that comes out of it.

Speak for yourself. Its much (much much) cleaner now. Lake Erie perch is a delicacy here.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I literally live half a block from the lake and I eat perch all summer.

The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is one of my favorite songs. Gordon Lightfoot knows how to pull the heartstrings.

This motherfucker is responsible for increasing the amount of snow I have to shovel :(

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fuck. Lake. Effect. Snow. We got 6 feet where I live over 3 days. Starting on christmas.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good ole Erie. My sympathies on the snow. Only three more months!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I lived in Central NY for a few years and was shocked by the amount of snow. I never got that much in the Southern Tier.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We usually don't either. We usually get an average of 110" a year. So far we've gotten 140" in 3 months...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm in Erie, PA.... this year has been the first year where the snow has made me want to move.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't live to far from Erie and we didn't get all that much snow from the lake effect..
