An Imgurian friend with depression told me they would like a gentle nudge for cooking and cleaning every now and then. So now, I oblige any Imgurian who would like such a nudge. Depression or not, sometimes we all need a nudge.

Today's invite is pants-optional and two levels.

L1: eat! Eat something. People with depression often forget to eat. Or don't feel hungry. Well... How about some cake? Chocolate is best. White cake! Yellow cake! There's red velvet cake! Carrot cake is... Well, chocolate is best.

Ready for some meme fun? I decided to bake one of these. With a can of soda.

This might be terrible. You skip all the ingredients on the box and just add soda. What could go wrong?

Recipe was basic. Pulled from a site I don't even remember. The bottom of the pan is brown sugar, and melted butter and then da fruit. Pour in cake mix.

L2: clean something while you wait. Cake takes 23 minutes to cook.

As always, don't do anything more than you can do. Stretch yourself a little, not a lot.

Cakes are done and out of the oven! And the kitchen is in way better shape!

So goldeny.

Not bad!

I'll taste one and give one to my neighbor. They had a Harris/Walz sign in their yard and I want to thank them.

Okay. Not bad! Not bad at all! I'm liking it. The fruity ginger ale is nice because it continues the cherry flavor on top. Okay. I'm calling this a win.

Still dealing with election trauma. But then again, so are you. All of us will be for decades to come. Sorry, international community.

If you don't feel like cooking or cleaning today, don't. Skip this invite. That's okay! You know your energy and body better than this post. Take care of yourself.

If you're feeling the vibe, but don't feel like baking a cake, there are 200 plus bite-size invites if you click on that tag.

Be kind to yourself today.

I have that red bowl. ❤️ I always wondered if these "just add soda" cakes were any good. Thanks for recognizing a lot of us are depressed. I managed a bowl of oatmeal today.

This was my grandads favorite cake. Love the different spin on it, thank you! A nice distraction…

Fair. Who adds soda to a cake??

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A mad person! The fact the recipe calls for brown butter, brown sugar, pineapple, and maraschino cherries means it definitely isn’t a poverty improvisation. Someone INTENDED this cake.

Well, I don't know about "intended." I used that soda+cake meme and decided to add the pineapple upside down part. So I'm not sure anyone ever expected this weird combo of stuff together.

I just feel good knowing you are out there in the world and that you remind me there are good people like you out there.

Thank you. I'm not sure if I'm a good person but I like doing what I can. It's hard right now to imagine good in the world.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is difficult to imagine the good. I'm gutted by the election and the thought of being surrounded by people who don't care. Defy hate is my mantra today.

That’s a damn good mantra.
