The daughter from Schitt's Creek plays someone trapped in the life of a wet blanket sitcom wife from a show like "Kevin Can Wait" and anything past that is too much of a first episode spoiler. It was amazing.
Having been to China and eaten many meals there, the answer is no, I don't really like Chinese food. My husband loves Chinese food so the orange chicken is my alternative. We pretend we're both eating Chinese food.
Theyre probably just getting their sauce from a nearby "International Grocery" store. Im serious. Most of the sushi in Seattle all comes from the same place and, same with the Hot Pot restaurants. All the way down to the garnishes and sauces.
Have you tried Chinese recipes? Western recipes are bs, try google translating the name of the dish you want, search the Chinese characters on youtube etc., a lot better imo. Ofc sometimes they don't have english subs but you recognise the ingredients anyway. Most Chinese dishes start with cooking aromatics like scallions, ginger and garlic for example, even when they are not in the dish (they remove it from the cooking oil) it's still an important step.
A small amount of people get headaches is basically the best source I can find for the massive hate towards MSG. And that may or may not be based on some wishy washy science. MSG is king.
It’s because it’s salt. The number 1 cause of headaches is dehydration. I’ve ,and MSG. I can send you a recipe and video if you like. It can be made with any vegetable, normal salt, and bullion. Let’s say we choose mushrooms. You boil them, then bake them. 2, 3 times. Then grind them into a powder. Then mix with water bullion, and salt. Then bake in a large sheet until it’s dried out. That’s mushroom MSG. Most store bought MSG is magpie with seaweed.
I put msg on basically everything, it's so good. The last sauce I tried making I believe was a combination of rice vinegar, hoison sauce, oyster sauce, rice wine, chinese 5 spice, and sugar. It wasn't bad, but it just never comes close to whatever they're putting on their pork lomein
So it's 2 parts rice to 1 part water... Or the other way, I can never remember. You rinse the rice, boil it, and then cover it and remove it from the heat. Fluff with a fork after 15 minutes and voila! Rice
step 1: call jade dragon restaurant step 2: order the #4 with white rice step 3: transfer your food from the to-go box to a plate step 4: take picture and pass off as your own cooking
If you want recipes of typical Chinese takeout dishes, try a YouTube channel called Souped Up Recipes, the lady that makes them (Mandy) is lovely and explains why certain techniques are used instead of just telling you what to do 🙂
Hookers only cost $1 back in those days, so it was a battle between eating or hookin'. One day, grandpappy got tired of laying pipe and decided to fry some chicken.....

[Hipster Woman]: OK, I guess we'll take the orange chicken. And maybe some...
[Fatty Choi]: Orange chicken. Orange chicken. Why?
[Hipster Woman]: Sorry?
[Fatty Choi]: Why come here if you're going to order something just covered in dipping sauce? Do you even like Chinese food?
SoGrosslyIncandescent
No...I like orange chicken, that's why I ordered it.
zFUBARz
Lol, I liked that show a lot, it was weird, but cool.
MeowWoof
I mean, I initially described it as "Kevin Can Fuck Himself" but as a police procedural instead of a sitcom. But it got so much weirder.
zFUBARz
I have not seen that one, sounds like I should check it out.

After years I think I figured it out. Five-spice powder is key. a good soy sauce, some hoisin sauce and lots of garlic - works for me!

Well to fry a chicken back then you needed a rutabaga. Well most people had one hanging from their belt because it was the style at the time...
