So exactly one year ago, I suprised my "less than morning people" family with a 5:30am Valentine's Day breakfast at iHop. It didn't go well: https://imgur.com/gallery/xjHEZ

So last night, my wife warned me not to do that again today. I agreed, and then proceeded to work late at my office until nearly 2am. Then at 5:30am this morning, my kids woke me up with a "Suprise Daddy! We're taking you to iHop!". My wife was standing behind them with an evil grin. Vengence... was hers.

Once again, an empty iHop at 6am. And notably, it still took them 25 minutes to get us food. I don't get it. If my family makes this a tradition, we may need to try someplace else. Suggestions?

Edit: Several Imagurians kindly explained how long it takes to warm a skillet. Very good points. I stand corrected, and will be more patient in the future.

Coffee helped, but I was still barely awake. My wife on the other hand, was happy and perky. Turns out "getting back at me" is something that makes it easy for her to get up early!

My kids were bouncing off the walls BEFORE they enjoyed a very American breakfast. I'd like to publicly apologize to their teachers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Eventually, I woke up and was happy to be spending Valentine's Day with my love, and the two greatest gifts she could give me. From our Family to yours, Happy Valentine's Day Imgurians! Hope you all got to sleep in.

Edit: Front page! The wife is thrilled. Instead of sending me pics of your doggos, if you’re feeling adventurous and like to make stuff to share online, try a side project of mine and let me know what you think. www.aftie.com It’s a site for making before/after sliders. (I call them Afties)

This is insane.

You two are adorable. Also that is the nicest IHOP I have ever seen by a pretty wide margin.

Vengeance is a dish best served over fluffy buttermilk pancakes at a reasonable price.

You sure can't tell those kids are yours! Great, weird family tradition.

OP is a simple man. He likes pretty, dark-haired women and breakfast food. Also, 20 minutes wait probably means freshly cooked food.

Wait... Boom, is that you?

Lol! Yes I was Boom of For Horde. I'm this guy: http://www.twentytotems.com/ Coming up on 10 years since we crashed Argent Dawn!

Aw, I must say, you two look really great together!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A family that's playfully evil together is a sign of true love.

Agreed. :)

OP, I like your style. Handsome family, too!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

25 minutes is an acceptable wait.

Bruh seriously. The kids are already slaying hearts

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

They also know what to order

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

25 minutes is a long time? How long does it take YOU to make a full breakfast for 4 people? :P

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s a nice IHOP

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Right? Looks way nicer than my local one

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You look like a happy family, happy Valentine's day you all of you

Good but three hours of sleep? Nope I would have been grouchy until food was in my belly and then proper sleep was had.

25 minutes to make meals for a family of four ... that just 6m15s for each meal. You're complaining why again?

"it still took them 25 minutes to get us food" Grill was probably cold from non use.

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 2

Yeah a lot of folks are pointing this out. We will be more patient. Food was great. :)

Also the last time I went to ihop the food took two hours to arrive. (5 pm).

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sinister sense of humor between you two. That's a happy couple right there

Love everything about this post! Well done, you/your family.

She's the worst. :)

My husband tells me I'm the worst every time we have sex because "it's late and he has to go to sleep " even if he initiates it... Lol

8 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

Well obviously it’s because you’re too sexy, totally your fault.

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

This is cool personally 20 minutes is reasonable for Ihop especially if your alone cause they havnt got the grill hot yet

8 years ago | Likes 239 Dislikes 2

Thought the same thing. To me it came off as entitled and smug.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 11

25 minutes so sorry

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

agree It’s not a fast food joint where everything is pre made Hell it takes me 25 mins to make 1 pancake at home they are breakfast for 4

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I also doubt they have a full crew on at 5:30am, probably 1 person in kitchen.

8 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 0

This will be the last time I harp on this. :) I stand corrected. I understand why it likely took so long. Just happy with the good food.

8 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

Dude - don't be reasonable and apologetic on the Internet. Have we learnt nothing? ;)

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Likely only one cook on at that time too.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Likely shift change, too

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

place empty, doing a new family tradition, what do you want more ? Keep that place for the next year if you guys are having a good time.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Not a bad point. Just wish service was faster. That, and the bench seats were a WRECK. It felt like they broke years ago. Food was good.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I feel like I would be more worried about the food if it was a completely empty restaurant and they got it to you in 5 min...

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Is your wife single?

8 years ago | Likes 138 Dislikes 14

No clue. We don't talk. >.>

8 years ago | Likes 120 Dislikes 4

Putting this here. This is ONE cool usually at six am waiting shift replacement if it is a 24 hr. He worked all night and you come in 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn dude, you're hella handsome. Are YOU single?

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

I laughed out loud!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

As a married man I can say this is THE most married answer he could have possibly given.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

3/3 cook**** (seriously phone? Cook isn't a word?)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 while he's doing shift change clean up and order. Yes. It will take awhile. Understand the process.
