Ruby would have been like that years ago if there had been another doggo in the house. The real reason for the pup is to soften the blow of when she dies.

That can also not happen. My old dog just tolerated the young one and now the young one is dominant and they rarely play together - usually the young one just chews on, or jumps on, or humps the poor old one.

This is the opposite of what happened with our dog. We got a puppy and he turned into Mr Wilson, just a curmudgeon. It didn't help that the puppy is Dennis the Menace.
