You're light in those kid's dark world. Even when you feel dim and ineffective you are the bright beacon of hope for them. Stay strong @op!
tomhark
you are doing good work. be as kind to those little humans as you can be. not every one is a cunt, though there are plenty. be kind to you.
IamBau
As an adult survivor of a childhood full of sexual abuse, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
psycoticbug
Find ways to remind you how great the world can be. I did a similar job.
onemorepost
You are making a massive diffrence in the childrens lives remember that. 60 years later they will still remember the good that you have done
smogswallowssuns
The world's a dark and fucked up place, and the only thing we can do it look for the light and persevere.
JNeil
I couldn't do your job, you're very strong and making a difference in each and every kids life you come in contact with. Don't give up!
thelizardking24
I work with the abusers so I get that fully.
ccp92
How can it all be crap when there are people like you who dedicate themselves to helping children who have suffered like that? God bless you
albertkaholic
It is. It also rocks. You just spend more time in the darkness than most people. Let yourself enjoy the light some, you've earned it.
Yaumii
The world isn't a shitty place. There are shitty people and your work forces you to deal with those more often than anyone should. But 1/2
By doing what you do you provide a better world for everyone. And for that you should never feel isolated and always reach out to 2/3
Your friends and family, or even here. Because you're doing something good and important, but more importantly you ARE good and important./3
hipposandwaffles
The world os a shit place, but you're doing good work. People like you make the world not quite as shitty.
ValidExcuse
Not only are you making it less shitty, but there are other people like you out working to make it less shitty. Not everyone is horrible.
voodoosexdoll
It's also one of the most depressing jobs you're working with victims of some of the most despicable crimes
calmyishmael
I second that
WolfOfMay
Specially for the kids who already think that the world is a shit place
xxwerdxx
Because of the work that you and others like you do, the world is not a shit place
legacyweaver
Look for positive things. It's not all bad, you just need to balance the bad you encounter with an equal amount of good. Or get crushed.

ER nurse. Feel the same. Recommend reading Camus, helped me accept it all a bit better.

Be the change you wish to see in the world.... You have the power to spread the word and educate people prevention is better than a cure
NoOutlet920
Look into compassion fatigue and secondary trauma. And get help for yourself, if possible
WisconsinHome
Former CPS worker here- please don't isolate yourself, please. One way to look at it is you wouldn't want the kids you work with to
Isolate themselves-you know it's not healthy. That said I understand the impulse having done the work you do
Marieisaspying
I burned out after 4 yrs, thought I wasn't making a difference. Years later saw one of kids-married, kids, job, he Thanked me. WORTH IT!
Please don't give up, talk to someone
twight
There is shit in the world, but you're the anti-shit. Your exposure to the shit sure is a huge burden but still something worth carrying.
marxundengels
Do you take good care of yourself? Is there a good supervisor available for you to talk to? Do you take breaks from work long enough to >
Recover? Remember you can only be helpful if you're in a good place and if you're taken care of (by yourself). We all need you and your work
Psylo
Well, I dunno, people keeps saying it has good sides too. You for instance... you work with abused Children. 1/2
That's good in this shitty world right? I mean, you can't be the only good person out there. Look around, I'm sure you'll find some like you
SneakEFoxxe
Example. Coworkers probably.
Also, never forget the Tale of Two wolves.

I certainly respect you. Keep fighting the good fight. 3/3

Go to therapy @OP
DaveFireBeard
Child and Youth worker here. I feel your struggle, but I also know this perspective has affected my practice. Stay strong. There is hope!
Ermmagaadd
My girlfriend represents neglected & abused children. The pay is low and hours long but we need good people like you guys. Keep it up @OP
Nihelus
I work in a fairly small county. The number of sexual, physical and mental child abuse cases we deal with is insane. People are aholes.
MaddingtonFair
Do you think anything could be done to prevent/stop it? Community schemes or public education? It breaks my heart to think I can't help
I work in law enforcement so I'm probably not the best person to ask. The best advice I could give is to report something if you see it.
A ton of people see abuse (and other forms of crime) and don't report it because they think it's none of their business.
Porkbellyslider
Hey, I do the same thing. Home based therapist here...we're in this together.
trinxter
Does psychological abuse count for getting help?
Yes it does. Very much so. Psychological abuse fucks us up a lot too.
might be worth doing a PSA post or stories about it. We only hear about physical and sexual abuse.
PurpleScubaDiver
You might be experiencing secondary trauma or burn out. Please seek professional help. Working in such places, one also needs support

This is the reason police detectives have to rotate off the sex crimes unit after 2 years.
AuBoss
In the criminal justice system sexually based crimes are considered especially heinous.
pandro
They find that nurses working geriatrics wards may need to rotate out, too. Ferls like you "lose" every patient.
