How to self rescue if you fall into a blackhole?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I read Mass Affects as Mass Effect, then I remembered how bad Andromeda was, then it made me sad.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I need a pomegranate STAT!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had no idea how the Panama Canal worked. I never bothered looking up how. that was incredibly interesting.

I love being stimulated by black holes

The ice one doesn't work on rivers, though. Watched an Alaska reality show. The Eskimo woman had lost several relative to breaking through

the ice while ice fishing on rivers. Scary shit that.

Could people stop using that black hole gif.Its literally soneone going into a black hole in a program called space engine Its unrealistic

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

I imagine the real experience would be a lot of screaming and then nothing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I DOUBT there would be the donut it shows you passing through...those edges would be falling in too

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did...did he survive the ice and get hit by a bus?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Glad I'm not the only one that thought that!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#2 literally deepened my world. I’m a science and math teacher. 0_0

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We used to do a similar thing with wooden cubes, which is much easier to make but not quite as neat.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It illustrates the theorem well, but it doesnt actually explain it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure; but it shows it’s part of nature, not just something from Geometry book.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True, and I guess its a good way to engage younger students, which can only be a good thing!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did anyone else find the braces one really satisfying to watch?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not how fiber optics work. Reflection off the side wall is bad for signal. That is just how easily light travels through glass

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What if I fall through unfrozen ice?

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

"unfrozen ice"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can use Farts as propulsion. Flexing a different cheek will change direction. Butt Rudder. Always replenish your emergency taco supply.

There's a really cool one of a Higgs-Boson and how it moves through spacetime like that as well. Can't find it though. :/

sarlaac

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Exactly my thought. Octopus + Bobbit worm = Sarlacc

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So canal one. Was that just an exaggeration to help explain? I’m confused.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The water levels on either side are the problem. If it was even, they wouldn't bother with the expense of locks, just carve through.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sure it's not to scale, but it illustrates the general process of changing water levels in locks to move the ship up and down

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol I just have in my head watching a giant ship climb a mountain

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The heights are exaggerated, but they do move bigass ships up and down quite a ways. Pretty impressive process

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cool thanks!

@op, gifs #3, #5, #7, and #9 were all captioned and edited by @thund3rbolt. Would be cool if you could give credit.

8 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 16

Cool but unnecessary in my opinion.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Isnt everything a repost at this point? How exhausting to have to credit every damn gif and who really cares? And who looks at the credits?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

The people that create the content care. The people that want more details also care, and will look for credits.

oh and if it wasn't enough, they can split themselves into sections that all grow back into individual worms.

Dune?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

What book was it?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Might have been Dune, the sandworms were a famous part of the setting.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was the Time of Contempt by Andrzej Sapkowski. Part of the 'Tales of the Witcher' series

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dune is the closest i can think of, but they move more. He could easily be thinking of something else.

Hello there.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the Panama canal one, just get the Animaniacs song for the Eerie canal and substitute Eerie with Panama.

My greatest fear, always been. Watched this 20 times now, hope to remember this when it finally happens.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One does wonder though how effective that is with all the winter clothes on. Especially if you gain more weight as clothes absorb water.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Exactly what I thought. Best thing is to always test the ice before moving out. Focus on prevention. Bring an axe.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s effective. Heavy but effective. You want out bad enough, you’ll deal with it.

But does it also work for quicksand? Asking for a kid.

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

IIRC quicksand is similar, you want to try to float horizontally, stay calm, and slowly swim out if possible.
