Any organisation can become corrupt.

Oh, well I guess this one wasn't a bastard then. /s

They don't like being called unions and actual unions don't like it. Unions represent you to your boss. Police brotherhoods or associations represent the entire police department to their funding sources like the city

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a union worker, cops SHOULD NOT have any protection... You "fuck up"? You get twice the sentence of a civilian for the same crime.

oh look more evidence of cops being bastards what a fucking shocker. I'm still waiting for a single good cop to come out of the woodwork. as long as shit like this is the standard we can never trust police.

ROUND 2! FIGHT!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds like it's time to fire the entire force.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He should have to fight the winner.

Not nearly as bad as how the cops got the last DA fired because he chose to prosecute a cop who, on his 3rd day, was in a car chase, the guy stopped and started to run away, so the cop opened his window, pulled out this gun and shot the guy in the back. Another cop arrested him. The Police stopped arresting shoplifters and car vandals (I watched them ignore one instance) until the DA got recalled. The new DA dropped charges (and on another cop who was blatantly guilty). I give up on sfpd.

Union or no union how is breaking the law not an automatic disqualification for the hiring process. When I was a financial broker, we used to joke you could kill someone, but if you got caught stealing a wallet no broker lic. for you.

He's being rehired cuz he wasn't convicted of a crime. The lack of conviction is due to the evidence against him being "lost"

What the actual fuck...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All of them? Every single one? ...yep.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The state, and or feds, need to step in to prevent an arbitrator and police union from making rehire decisions allowing criminals to wear law enforcement badges again.

You know what, given that it's America I'm not the slightest bit surprised

Unpopular opinion here - labor unions should be as strong as police unions. But if you take that and carry it over to ANY other profession, keeping people who screw up the job seems insane. Airline pilots drinking on the job? No prob, union protection. Restaurant workers not washing their hands? No prob, union protection. Auto workers not tightening bolts to required spec? No prob, union protection. Pharmacists snorting adderall on the job? No prob, union protection.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

The airlines don't have to fire pilots for drinking. The FAA just revokes their medical certification. There's a path back; but its arduous.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

btw that's for drinking and driving. Drinking and flying is another matter.

And yet these same fascist cops will vote for anti-union politicians. Police unions and qualified immunity need to be scrapped. the experiment didn't work, it just created a haven for power-hungry sadists, abusers, and want to be vigilantes to thrive.

2 years ago | Likes 133 Dislikes 1

The anti-union politicians make sure to protect cop unions. Got to keep the shock troops rolling around in mud and feeling superior to civilians.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So the experiment DID work as intended. It protected the sadists and abusers. That was the point, right?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I only have three-fifths of an opinion in this.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those same anti union politicians use them as private security and give them a license to kill. Why wouldn't they vote that way?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No public employees should have unions including teachers.

Republicans frequently put carve outs in their anti-union laws for police and firefighter unions. Wisconsin from a decade ago jumps to mind in particular. Cops don't care because they're actively protected regardless.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Because police "unions" aren't actual unions, we just call them that. Generally they're actually "fraternal orders." Real unions don't allow management to join them.

Cops destroyed the evidence that was needed to convict him: https://missionlocal.org/2024/01/sf-rehire-ex-sheriffs-deputy-fight-club-scandal/

Can we say SPOLIATION !!!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jail them all. They'll rat each other out.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We all know the answer already, but the question that needs to be asked anyway is: why didn't they get charged with serious crimes for destroying evidence? Destruction of evidence isn't some minor detail, it's a huge problem that undermines that core of proper application of justice.

2 years ago | Likes 82 Dislikes 0

Somehow the evidence of them destroying the evidence got destroyed......

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The proper application of justice? These are police officers. The law doesn't apply to them so long as Republicans exist in our government anywhere. Remember "qualified immunity"?

This is called spoliation of evidence, and if anyone else did it, they WOULD. At very least, the judge could order the jury to assume the missing evidence was damning when making their verdict.

2 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

That entire precinct should have been firebombed.

I wish the unions I was a part of had half as much power as police unions.

2 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 0

union is only a union when you're repersented to your boss, not the entire department to the funding source that a lobbyist orgnizations

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Give police the same toothless union that Kroger employees have. Make those motherfuckers unhappy and unprotected from the whims of the higher ups.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

most police "unions" are not unions at all, they're typically more like fraternal organizations or mutual aid societies. If you have management in your union or you cross picket lines of other unions, you're not really in a union.

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Closer to the mafia, imo.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Considering that police are essentially a street gang, an apt comparison.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

"mutual aid societies" are typically how the mafia presented their financial activities to the law, yes.

"Though Neu was criminally charged by former District Attorney George Gascón in 2016 with 17 criminal counts, these charges were dropped after the Sheriff’s Office allegedly destroyed evidence in the case; in one instance an investigator’s laptop was smashed with a hammer due to a virus." I'm not a computer guy, but I think there might be a better way to deal with a computer virus. Also, there are these things called back-up files...

2 years ago | Likes 373 Dislikes 2

Anyone involved with this coverup should get the business end of the hammer to the face

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When a computer comes down with the sickness, you have to put it down 😞

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As long as the hard drive is intact, then it's possible. Just say you'll take it with you and you can extract it and see what's recoverable.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I’m not a cop, but destruction of evidence is a crime you can easily charge people with. Why are we allowing them to do this?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

how this doesnt lead to whoever destroyed the laptop being charged with destruction of evidence is a fucking mystery

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

The rules of evidence for getting to keep your job as a cop vs being convicted of a crime shouldn't be the same.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's possible that a virus could corrupt backups if they were improperly secured, but impossible that a hammer is going to fix that issue.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I would wager all I have that there never was a virus and no one backed up the incriminating evidence.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I also believe this wholeheartedly

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Destroying evidence should be an automatic 20 year sentence!

2 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

Lose your license to carry a gun, and no pensions for bad cops.

"Oops, security footage disappeared, and we don't know who smashed the laptop. Guess we'll never figure it out..."

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

"Sorry to hear that. Looks like you're admitting you're incompetent, and derelict in your duty. Due to your position of power, you're personally taking the blame for the destruction of that evidence"
