It seems to me if Deluxe Paint on my 1987 Amiga can do this, more professional software should be able to out-of-the-box as well.

Krista is free and pretty much on the same level as photoshop and the like, great for drawing.
Wholly agree. Though I moved from Krita to CSP about a year ago and like it overall more. Thankfully it goes on sale all the time :)
