Every one has met the cute duo of Tabby and Crouton (black kitty). Here's part of the story
https://imgur.com/gallery/Ya1l0gg

Tabby after we decided to keep her. Such a cute, sweet girl.

In one week, we lost Crouton over night on Tuesday morning and by Friday Tabby wasn't doing well.

4 visits to the vet from Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and then Friday staying over night to come home Saturday. After tests and x-rays, the doctor couldn't figure out what was wrong.

By 8pm Saturday night, Tabby was very lethargic, not able to hold any thing down, and just very depressed. We then took her to a 24/7 Pet hospital by 930. And were finally seen by 12:45.
After tons of tests, the vet there couldn't determine what was wrong either.

Being told that more specific tests could tell us what's wrong but sadly, they take days to get results and with her chances of surviving until then with prolonged treatment since she is so sick and young was very low.

So, we had to make the hard decision to put her down to put her out of her misery... we know it was the best for her but it still hurts.

Situations like this makes me not want to foster any more... these 2 kittens came to me temporarily until I found a home. And we eventually lost one, decided to keep the other to only end up losing her to.

Losing a pet, even foster pets, is so hard for my heart and soul.

Thank you, Imgur for following Tabby and Croutons journey.

UPDATE: thank you all for the kind words. Sadly, this isn't the end. https://imgur.com/gallery/B5SEGKS

Maybe something toxic or pesticide in wood inside house wall ? or something hiden behind.

I'm sorry, OP. Just remember that you offered everything you could and gave these kittens the very best you could.

Oh dear... I know your struggle and the pain that comes with rescuing/fostering. You're making the ones you can save, better. Much love.

Aw, man, I thought the title meant it was hard to choose between littermates. You have my deepest sympathies.

This, This so much.

My sympathies. But you gave them love and warmth and shelter and care. Their lives were short but, one second or a million years, it all (1)

matters. You made their lives good while they were here. That's all we can ever do for anyone, feline or otherwise. (2)

You miss all the shots you don't take. Focus on the animals saved, or the ones lost. Your option. One saves far more cats than the other.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NOT saying it's easy to take the losses, but love is a process of making yourself vulnerable to pain in order to feel extreme joy.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh god that sounds terrible but also shows the compassion you have for these lovely animals. Sending hugs!

It is absolutely heartbreaking. <3 Good human!

My guess is FIP or systemic calicivirus (been seeing that one more than ever recently). Sucks. I’m sorry

At least they were loved before the end. ??

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh my I’m so sorry :(

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They found a loving home for the rest of their lives....Life is sometime short, too short but they spend it with good people.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was it fading kitten syndrome, maybe? We lost a stray to that. It was heartbreaking.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That's what I thought at first but fading kitten syndrome doesn't normally come with vomiting or diarrhea. They just simply waste away.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Did they test for Panleuk? If possible always vaccinate FVRCP as soon as possible and booster it. Could have also been virulent Calici.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I also did corn syrup, baby food with pedialyte, and all that. And I saved kittens that way. But these situation was different.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Did you try coccaine?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

That would be a sight to see

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've actually never heard about how many losses a person experiences for fostering pets. This sounds tragic and awful. Sorry @op

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've only lost 4 fosters in all my time rescuing and fostering. A 1 wk neonatal kitten found with lime burns, the sibling of Smeagol I have

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Posted about here due to not finding them in time and these 2.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Still a hardship. Not sure my fragile heart could do it. Mad respect. <3

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is this the cat version of SIDs?

3 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

Sounds like it. Fading Kitten Syndrom? Sucks big time.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

They tested for Panleuk, and all other diseases but showed nothing. Her fecal was clear. The only issue was there was a problem with her

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Digestive system. Food was going through her in 3 hours instead of the normal 6. So, she wasn't absorbing a lot of food. 2 vets did x-rays,

3 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Blood, fecal, and couldn't figure it out. So, they think it could be something completely out of norm or a disease even though we tested

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Negative on all of it. And I took her to our house with our other 8 cats because they vet said she was find, she has her first shots and now

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I'm DEATHLY afraid for my other cats. If it is viral and the tests were false or wrong...I just put my other cats at risk . And my funds

I'm so sorry. This happened to me. Someone left a kitten on my porch late November. She was about 3wks old. For 3wks she was spunky, loving

3 years ago | Likes 211 Dislikes 0

& playful. Then one day she stopped eating & was sleepy a lot. We took her to the Vet & they could not find anything wrong. After a couple

3 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 0

a days & lots of money later we had to just give up & put her to sleep. They said it was fading kitten syndrome but I still feel like it was

3 years ago | Likes 113 Dislikes 0

fault. Like I let her down. Her name was Twinkie, I told her if she made it through we would keep her.

3 years ago | Likes 121 Dislikes 0

Twinkie had a good go with you well done 4 the love anyway…

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I hope so. But guilt is a bitch and it can sneak up on you when you think you moved past it.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd say it was the fault of the person who left a newborn kitten alone on a porch.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I got a better camera after she was dumped since she was the 3rd cat left on my porch. Luckily the other 2 we're some what healthy.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know 100% how you feel. Crouton dying on Tuesday was hard. I felt like I could have done more. And we did everything we could for Tabby.

3 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

Money was a issue but I would have figured something out. I always do. And when I was told the chances of surviving the treatment until

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

You picked her up when she needed it and you gave her love and warmth in the time she still had. You did good, kid

3 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 0

Thank you that means a lot. I had to stop fostering for a bit since I can't seem to get over it. But I am going to start up again this fall.
