First the progress so far! it's been 1,5 years since I bought my bus. this is my first oldtimer restoration and I'm doing it together with my 85 year old grandfather. The bus is imported from Arkansas USA, where the previous owner drove her. The plan is to restore it to its exact original condition! You can follow our further progress on my instagram page https://www.instagram.com/maximus.be/
The day she came in, with a smile.
Taking off everything that can come off
Even found some nests hidden in the vents.
Rusty.. a little after this picture we kicked through the driver seat floor.
rusty cargo floor, this was mostly surface rust, we didn't have to patch too many holes.
a new drivers side floor panel.
First time shaping sheet metal to fit in the cargo floor.
Garage gets small quickly with all these parts
Added a pivot bar to be able to put the van on the side.
Scraping off the undercoating
cleaned parts with fresh paint
Sandblasted the whole body work.
welded a new heater pipe.
Protection underneath
Epoxy coating so rust gets no chance.
The shiny final coat: L87 perlweiss. refitted the lights
messy electronic puzzle
revision of the engine and gearbox (no picture)
engine in and running smoothly
New rubbers and polish for the louvre windows
dashboard and chairs with new upholstery installed
Windshield and front part of pop top
bumpers
This is how she looks now, next step are the wheels!

What a great project!! Took many vacations all across the USA in one as a kid!

Same. My parents had one when I was little, I remember sleeping on the back seat on road trips. :)

Our camper had the pop-up top. A cot made for a bed up there. That's where I slept!

@op I plan on getting a wesfalia in a couple years or so. Any tips or advice on getting one or where to get one?
maximusbe
we did'nt look that much at the mechanics, because that's what my grandfather is really good in revising.
maximusbe
I've got mine in belgium so I don't know if that's usefull. we looked for a clean undercarriage and a bodywork with as little dents as poss
VultureVeins
Did you just find someone online that had one or did you go to a special site for them?
