You got the 2nd to last image from Shadow of Mordor didn't you?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The one about Galadriels ring.. Blue text on blue background (with black shadow).. Still hard to read. But at least you tried.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was looking for this comment

You made a third and didn't link it to the others? Good thing I kept scrolling. Keep it up, and link em up!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Colored text is awful

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Tolkien stated that he dislikes allegory in all forms.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I THOUGHT YOU SAID TINY! WE ARE ON PART 3! THAT IS NOT TINY! AND WHY AM I YELLING? OH RIGHT, THE CAPS LOCK!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What the world wouldve lost if Tolkien didn't have a fever that day..

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Interesting about Rohan being Saxson. I have always saw them as the Visigoths during the wars against Attila the hun. King Theodoric fell

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

a lot of this is just headcanon, and some of it is completely wrong

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Painfully. Like the spelling of the author's name in the very first image.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Helm Hammerhand: ONE PUUUUUUUUUNCH!!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Regarding #1, Sam was actually based on batman. No... seriously, he was... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_(military)

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just finished reading the Simirilian & read all 3 posts to verify the facts. You did alright OP

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Plot twist: Sam killed his wife to be with his true love

10 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 3

Well, a few years with one but an eternity with another kind of says who he really loved the most.

Tasty little tidbits, I gotta reread these.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If by "a big fan" you mean he literally taught Saxon and Norse at Oxbridge, then yes.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the thing about Elonds ring is straight up wrong, all three elve rings had the same powers

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I want more parts!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the intro(?) Of my book of Lotr, it is written that Tolkien did not intend Lotr to be the reflection of real world issues.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

no, but it definitely reflected his experiences in the great war. read some accounts of world war 1 battles and compare them to mordor.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Later in life he planned on connecting the entire mythos into the real world making it our history.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the first versions this is actually more true than in the later versions.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In Tolkein's Ring, it was shown from his own personal writings that Tolkein hated allegory, fearing his books would be over analyzed.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was supposedly offered as a mythology for the Britons pre-camelot and all, which was missing.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think it was meant to, but some of Tolkien's experiences probably influenced some of the wider themes.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Helm Hammerhand, so fucking metal.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn't gandalf have the 3rd elven ring though? The ring of fire, that elrond gifted to him.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

>tfw you'll never see the Dagor Dagorath on movie or read about it

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

>tfw I'm too lazy to look for a good reaction face

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually, the three great rings of the elves were not free of Sauron's power. But the elves noticed it and immediately took theirs off.

Yeah afaik they were crafted by Celebrimbor alone, and once Sauron figured out what he was doing, he wanted to start "Helping" as well.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They still used Sauron's teachings, so they were still susceptible. Galadriel only wore hers because Sauron didn't have the One Ring then.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The fellowship going to Arda always bothered me. Wasn't it unsafe for mortals? Or were the Valar just bullshitting Numenor again

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They weren't supposed to be able to reach it. Naughty elves tbh.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Arda is the name of all of creation. You're thinking "Valinor."

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, I sure am. Been years since I read it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shadow of Mordor is canon correct?

So no?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I think 'fuck no' is appropriate.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really need to read the books, huh?

10 years ago | Likes 215 Dislikes 0

I want to learn more about One Punch Dwarf.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Couldn't hurt and may bring ya some real enjoyment- it is a good story- the movies were very good but the book ?...What an adventure !

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... and when you are finished read The Silmarilion and Unfinished Tales which explain a lot of stuff in The LOTR

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Someone wrote a book based on the movies?

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Those movies are too long, I hope that the novelization is edited.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ugh +1

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Legit got my heart beating harder. +1

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you don't have to, brah

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the silmarillion

10 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 1

Silmarillion isn't exactly something that you read. It's more of something that you study. It's not really made for reading.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

True it's like a fantasy textbook

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Written for elven schoolchildren, translated by hobbits

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The way I've explained it to friends, is that the first book is all about the history, so it feels quite slow, cause its catching you up 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/3 but the 2nd book is about half history (introducing you to Ents and such) and the 3rd book all takes place in the Present of the story.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The third book is my favorite of the three. And the damn hobbits all call Aragorn "Strider" throughout the books, and it feels significant.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah. That said, I feel like I just did all over again.

only upvoted because this is actually an unpopular opinion.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*Book. It's one book split into three volumes. Sorry, pet peeve. Srsly though, the book is amazing. Be prepared for a slow start, though.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Honestly I thought the entire thing dragged.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The start can be a little slow, but I actually like that. Some of the sections with Sam and Frodo near the end do go on a while. Still 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 my favorite book of all time, though.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see why people love it, but I barely struggled through it, and have 0 interest in a reread. You do you though.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Who had the third of the elven rings of power?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the wizard.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Círdan the shipwright of the Grey Havens. He built the boats that transported elves to the west. He gives it to Gandalf before LOTR

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gandalf

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How did he end up with it?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't remember all the details, but he helped out the original owner (an elf), who then gifted it to him

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Gil Galad wasn't it?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did some reading - it was Cirdan, sorry about the inaccuracy.

10 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

Celebrimbor -> Gil-galad -> Círan -> Gandalf
