Two weeks into this war and it is clearer than ever that Donald Trump miscalculated. It did not seem to occur to him that bombing Iran would raise gasoline prices in the United States, even though it is a net exporter of petroleum. If he was warned that Iran might close the Strait of Hormuz, he ignored it.

Nor does he seem to have considered the possibility that an oil supply crisis would strengthen Vladimir Putin – indeed, that it might throw him a lifeline just as Russia’s economic burden of sustaining the war in Ukraine was becoming intolerable.

After 14 days of strikes on Iran, accompanied by boasts and threats that the war is either over or going to go on for a long time, the US president’s reasons for launching military action are still no clearer. Mr Trump continues to blow hot and cold, now calling for other countries to send warships – an abrupt change in tone since he said he did not need help from the British, accusing us of seeking to “join wars after we’ve already won”.

Calling ANY of his thoughts a "calculation" is an extreme compliment

"Nor does he seem to have considered the possibility that an oil supply crisis would strengthen Vladimir Putin" - this is sarcasm, right? 'Course he has!

Which one?

What miscalculation? The Epstein files aren’t front page news anymore, so he calculated just fine.

He vibin'

The alternative is that he planned for all of this to happen. And he wanted all this to happen.

Trump started the war at Putins behest.

He probably also started it to make Venezuela more attractive for development, since they invaded for the oil and companies told him “no thanks.”

They genuinely believe their own racism - that everyone in the middle east is a mindless savage. The idea that they wouldn't just immediately roll over didn't even occur to them

And guess what Donnie Moscow did, he lifted the ban on Ruzzian oil to save Vladdy

1 week ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

And he asked Zelensky to stop bombing Russian Energy Sektor for more Peace Talks. Ukraine did it once, this time... they are implementing their own Sanctions on Russian Oil with kinetic Sanctions and Ukraine seems to have broken Russian Air Defence. Russia produces around 5-7 AA Systems a month. In the first 12 Days of March Ukraine has destroyed 19 Systems together with the large Radar Network. Ukraine is now hunting Russian AA and is hitting Russian Oil Hard. 40% of Russian Exports is down.

Using his name and "miscalculation" in the same sentence made me think of Sir Terry Pratchett's trolls ... One, two, many.

War in Iran? Youre still talking about warn in Iran? Its time to move on. Youre a nasty woman reporter to ask this. - trimp in the next couple days, while sitting at a table hiding his cankles, hands, and neck.

I hope to read of his painful demise soon.

That won’t do much to solve our current nazi situation sadly. While the puppet may kick the bucket, those who yanked its strings are still here, making shit worse for everybody.

So you're saying that helping Putin was just an oversight rather than the purpose?

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They stated their reason very clearly when they started. It's to force God to start the apocalypse.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That’s not the reason, that’s the excuse. The reason for these attacks is that Donnie wanted to see brown people being hurt.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was Putin’s idea all along for the trifecta of, easing Russian oil sanctions, opening opportunities for russian exports to Iran, and diverting Ukraine’s attention away from defending itself as they supply the US with anti drone tech in exchange for munitions.

Is it a miscalculation if you never calculated in the first place?

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

War for Putin to make (oil-)profits. War for his family, to make profits with (oli-) tades. He makes money, money, money. War raises oil-prices. Every time.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He is helping his Oil$Gas friends and does not care at all about the price at the pump affecting people

It's pretty clear they were riding that high of success from Venezuela and thought they could do regime change in Iran. They were successful with their initial strikes at hitting high ranking government officials and military targets. It didn't spur revolution however, and the new Ayatollah is an even more hard-line zealot than the last one. So now they either have to totally topple the regime, which is going to take forever, or pull out and admit defeat which will allow Iran to solidify 1/2

1 week ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

2/2 around their new hard-line government and their now even more extreme hate of the United States. I don't see this ending any time soon and I'm 100% positive we're going boots on the ground this year. I don't think any amount of diplomacy will work at this point.

For the man who sold himself as not wanting to start any wars, he sure is doing a shit job of it.

US still won't admit defeat in Vietnam. That just isn't something that they do.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, Venezuela hasn't spent several decades preparing for it. Iran has.

"Miscalculation" is a generous term, it implies there was calculation or some form of thinking involved.

1 week ago | Likes 211 Dislikes 0

He was thinking of using it to cancel midterm elections, and to help Russia

1 week ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

If something so much as breathed funny in the Middle East, gas prices go up. He absolutely complained about the same thing during the Obama and Biden years.

“He’s a moron” isn’t sufficient explanation. Whatever he wants out of war with Iran, he DGAF how it affects people in the US.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like an LLM there's no actual calculation going on, he's just trying, with varying levels of success, to generate a series of words that sounds like something a human might say in that situation.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

misguided reactive posturing perhaps?

War by whim...

1 week ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

The intel was vibes-based.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah he's been projecting attacking Iran on all his opponents for years. Projection as usual. This is clearly something he's had on his mind for a very long time. Meaning any ignorance is just as systemic as his ignorance of everything else. I mean why bother learning anything or asking everyone if you already know everything. Room temperature IQ having salesman knows nothing about global politics.

Is it crazy to think that the Russians influenced him to do this for all of the reasons that would benefit their economy?

I still dont get what the goal is here. What is the desired outcome of this war?

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To disrupt development of the north-south asia to europe transport corridor so that trade continues to pass through Israel's Port of Haifa.

Trump isn't playing 4D chess. Or 3D, or 2D, or even 1D. He's not dimensional at all. He's a point. A kneejerk reaction in the moment.

1 week ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 0

they play 4D wack-a-mole masterfully.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He's so incredibly stupid that people are mistaking his moves for some master plan. Imagine being that dumb people can't believe it.

Oh he knew bombing Iran would help Russia. Vladimir told him to go and attack Iran, because Vladimir knows Rußia is going bankrupt if they can't move oil.

1 week ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 0

Putin was shocked that Trump killed the Ajatolla. I think Putin gambled on a limited escalation to reduce Patriot Stocks and raise the oil price a little. Not a full Escalation with the destruction of the Iranian Industrie. Russia needed the Iranian Industrie as Backup for the Shahed production but more intrestingly: Iran was producing Parts for Western Aircrafts at a relativly good quality.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, that's a good theory. Trump attacked Iran to drive oil prices up to make his fascist cunt supporters swallow Putin's shit as Trump buys russian oil?

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I don't know; Russia gets an economic boon from this, but they also lose one of their best sources of drones. Given how he blundered blindly into Ukraine and got a good chunk of his military turned into fertilizer in a manner of days, I question Putin's ability to foresee how something like this would go.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Russia took the Iranian design and improved on it, most of the manufacturing is domestic.

1 week ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

"Although Iran initially provided the drones, Russia now manufactures its own Shaheds. The armed forces of other countries have since adopted Shahed-type drones, including the U.S. military, which has said they are part of the current campaign against Iran." (Reuters) Zelensky estimates Russian drone production close to 1000/day.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Relying on domestic manufacturing? That's a gamble, given how good Ukraine has proven to be at hitting targets in Russia. If they were importing from Iran, that's not a concern.

1 week ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Indeed, it is a prime target for Ukraine. But also shipping them over the Caspian sea is a risk.
