did somebody say scotch/whisk(e)y? http://imgur.com/P82C4vW

I will try a bottle of each. Will let you know what I think tomorrow.

Bourbon sucks, fight me

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For the best of times

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love that movie! But it's super misleading. I live in Japan, and Suntory Whiskey is atrocious and cheap.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wanna know how I call Glenfiddich? Glen fickt dich (= Glen fucks you; german pun I guess). Too strong for my taste

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I prefer mild Scotch and Irish Whisky like Glenmorangie and Jameson

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have never liked glenfiddich, i don't know if its the taste or the offputting green bottle. But i love The Macallan and Balvenie

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Balvenie and Macallan are my friends to the end, hehe.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

hands down my 2 favorite

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mmm Ardbeg :-)

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I agree. Also, fancy name.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Redbreast! Excellent choice.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Anybody else read the " I guarantee it" in the mens warehouse guys voice?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a bartender I usually scroll these to laugh at the inaccuracies. You however, were right every damn time! +1

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

agreed, as a former liquor sales rep for bars these posts drive me up the wall with inaccuracies. This one made me laugh

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*THIS* is what's needed. Not "THIS IS WHAT MEN DRINK."

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

a man will confidently drink whatever he wants, regardless of image

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Conversely, no one should tell anyone else what to drink either.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed! I'm all for suggestions/recommendations. But it comes down to a matter of taste, and everyones palate is different

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And for the last fucking time Bourbon does NOT have to be made in Kentucky! There, I'm done.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I literally got downvoted the last time i stated this. I provided sources and citations... but still... downvoted...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This post is so goddamn right

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Fireball whiskey, it's goddamn disgusting

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

As far as cinnamon flavored anything goes it's the most bearable one. But still disgusting.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the great words of Master Mixologist Bobby G (jim beam) said: we will stop producing flavored shit when peoples top drinking it

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Many experts actually say to add a splash of distilled water to enhance the flavors of all whiskey.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Instructions unclear; got my knob stuck in the creek.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And by splash, IlliniFire means a few drops.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

im an avid fan of Makers Mark

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

for cost:quality it is good stuff, i've moved on to makers 46, aged a bit longer with added staves giving it a sweeter flavor profile

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like the original but i agree i prefer 46

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's a good starter whiskey?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just as an addition to what the others have said (which is bang on), if you want a Scotch *blend*, go with Chivas Regal. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Blends are less complex than Single Malts, but they tend to be a little smoother and easier drinking. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just my opinions: Scotch: Glenlivet 12; Bourbon: Buffalo Trace/Jim Beam; Rye: Bulleit; Irish: Jameson; Canadian: Crown Royal; Tennesse: JD

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just to add to the list. If you like Canadian, I recommend Forty Creek.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Basil Haydens is a good choice. Not really all that harsh. Wild Turkey is also good. Sorry, I'll only be able to recommend bourbon lol.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's an understatement to say the least.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's goddamn okay

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

I goddamn second this.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I goddamn third this!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I actually live really close to where they make Templeton Rye

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

so you live in Indiana?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No where they make real Templeton Rye

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like my whiskey how I like my women. 12 years old and mixed up with a little coke.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Where is this from?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ron white

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks! A friend of mine said this at a cognac tasting 5 years ago, and claimed it as his own line.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's a big Ole fibber!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you tried any of the really smokey scotches from Ilay? Any recommendations? Been drinking monkey shoulder blended lately and Jura.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Laphroaig quarter cask is among the best scotches I've ever had, and the lagavulin distillers edition! Islay is the best region!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

First off, it's the island of Islay. These are far and away my preferred Scotch whisky. Try Caol Ila if you're looking only for smoke. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're looking for peat, go with Lagavulin or Laphroaig. If you're looking for smoke and peat, go Ardbeg.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Try Lagavullin 16! Amazing

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Will do. Thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

oops, i lied to you, macallan is not an islay scotch, it's a speyside. i got that confused on accident. i don't think i've ever had an islay

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

you will know an islay when you taste one. It's a peat bomb

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No problem. I like the Mccallen too. Tried it when I found out Neil Peart drinks it. He got me into scotch and motorbikes.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not at the same time. Scotches after riding.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Costco used to sell (maybe still does?) Macallan white-labeled as Kirkland ..at half the price of Macallan. Exact same product. #tmyk

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thats good to know. Moving soon to where costcos are. Just Sams here.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Macallan brand would never allow that, as they are far too concerned over their image. I have a feeling you have been mislead

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Scotch is spelled Whisky, no "e". Otherwise totally correct on all points.

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 7

there is absolutely no way i'm spelling "whiskey" without that "e." i will die first.

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 12

Well if it's from Scotland, whisky is how you spell it.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I love you for this.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Sometimes, you've got to take a hard stance, and pick your battles well. I picked the battle of arbitrary regional spellings.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You have an ally for life, comrade.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well carry on being incorrect.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You forgot the apostrophe in "we'll"

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok, seems a little trivial to die over, but do as you please. Oh, before you slit your wrists, check the labels, scotch is spelled whisky.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

It isn't my problem that the whiskey distillers can't spell.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

Quite right, they're types of whiskey. ... except the corn, whiskey is made from grain. The corn is shine.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

whiskey/ whisky are the same thing, it's just that the Scots want to be different for some reason and spell it without the "e".

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 7

Downvoting you for your stubbornness in defending being wrong.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

OP Please learn the difference between Whisky and Whiskey.

10 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 11

Being a scot, I genuinely didn't know people spelled whisky with an 'e' in it. TIL

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just USA and Ireland really, it started when whisky trading exploded and they wanted to differentiate their product

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whiskey comes from countries w/ 'e' in the name,Ireland,America, etc. Whisky comes from countries w/out an 'e' in the name, Scotland, Japan

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Merely by coincidence, It's really only USA and Ireland that uses Whiskey, but I why it has an "e" started for entirely different reasons

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's goddamn delicious.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Spelling

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

My friend wants to know what the difference is.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Whisky originates from Scotland. So scotch whiskey technically doesn't exist, I think?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ireland/USA use Whiskey, the rest of the world uses whisky. It was a marketing strategy back in the day to differentiate their product

NO! NO! NO! you drongo. Scottish Whisky is spelt like this. Irish Whiskey is spelt like this, and everything else is heresy.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

My mistake just read the wiki, also all whisky should be spelt with a y apart from Irish and American

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The former colonies do not have Whisk(e)y they have bourbon, named after some Frenchies, says it all really.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Whisky - Scotch. Whiskey - all the other stuff.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Nope. Whisky = Canadian, Japanese, Scotch. Whiskey = Irish, American. It also has no meaning, just a spelling preference.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Stop being pretentious and just enjoy the drink. Nobody gives a shit about that e.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

how is he being pretentious by seeking information?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

It's really just like the difference between grey/gray. You know what they both mean but some people have a stick up theirs about it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

but he was simply asking what the difference was, you could have just stated that instead.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

the guy who started this chain didn't ask a question, he made a statement.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I was actually hoping for useful information, as someone who's yet to try whiskey. I'm disappointed in you @OP.

The most useful advice I have about whiskey/whisky is: first, don't spell it around anyone who cares which, and second, drink rum instead.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Meh, rum's are good summer drinks (zaya is hands down my favorite). Not so good in the Minnesota cold

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, if you want REAL whiskey advice: http://www.realmendrinkwhiskey.com/whiskey-for-beginners/

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Had a redbreast the other day, quite nice.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get a bottle of Angel's Envy. It's not whiskey but you'll never need another drink in your life.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Angels Envy is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Made by Lincoln Henderson. Not only do i have a bottle but i used to sell it

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, I guess it is whiskey. I thought it was just Bourbon. It's fucking amazing, the only liquor I can drink straight without gagging.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All bourbons are whisk(e)y, all Whisk(e)y's are not bourbon. The same product, but bourbons are held to stricter production laws

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are a lot of resources online. Personally, I'd recommend Redbreast as a nice whisky to start with. Very smooth and balanced.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I like Green Spot more than the Redbreast. It's quite a bit brighter, if you like that sort of thing.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've heard good things about it, but it's harder to find in the US.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh! I didn't even think of that. It's everywhere up here in Canada.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All you need to know is Bushmill's Irish Honey, neat.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not really whiskey though

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How so?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a liqueur rather than a whiskey

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A liquer has added sugar or artificial sweeteners. Bushmill's Irish Honey has actual honey. No sugar or other sweeteners.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the flavoring additive. You're better off getting a true whisk(e)y and adding natural honey to it

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Scotch and Japanese are smoked and taste smoky. Bourbon and Irish taste like vanilla and charcoal. Rye is "spicy."

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Scotch's can be smokey, especially an Islay. But if you've ever had Dewars, smokey is the last thing that comes to mind

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sotch isnt by definition smoky. There are plenty of scotches that are more or less smokeless in flavor

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Bourbon is also significantly cheaper than scotch or Irish/Japanese whiskeys.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Depends where you live. Domestic items will almost always be cheaper than an imported good

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Low end bourbon is cheaper than low end scotch and Japanese whisky available Stateside. However Pappy competes w/ high end for both.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

30$ will buy you a great bottle of bourbon -Woodford, Knob Creek, Bulleit Bourbon, but that same money wont get you much worth of scotch.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i find 'low-end' scotch much less enjoyable than low end bourbon. I'll take a bottle of Jim Beam any day of the week!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jim Beam Black for sure, I think I'd rather have Jack over JB white. I agree cheap bourbon over cheap scotch.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lots of "good" bourbons are pushing $80 now though. I'd say Knob, Woodford, Bulleit, and Maker's are entry level these days.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Start w a 20-40$ bottle of bourbon. Knob Creek or Buffalo Trace. American, cheap, tasty, doesn't break the bank like some imported whiskey.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'd beat an old lady with a stick to get some Knob Creek Rye.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wood ford reserve is bomb too

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I just tried Bulleit Bourbon last week. Seriously good drink, $35/bottle, if you like Woodford, I highly recommend trying Bulleit whiskeys.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

not a fan of bulleit. It's ok tasting, but its a MPG blend without its own distillery. Far too expensive for how much it costs them

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

got a fav bourbon?
