But I use turbotax for free..

When living in New Zealand, my mind was blown that the government would just do the taxes for you. They only ask you to review them to make sure they haven’t made an error.

There's a bill by Sen. Warren being introduced that finally does this. Contact your senators and tell them to support it!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In Ireland it's automatically done for me. I then get a yearly statement with everything I paid etc. I can then dispute if they are wrong.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used it here in Canada. Did my wife and I. Their software is well designed. I only paid to import last year's data into this one.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

my local gov does this because its more cost effective and it is so nice

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Taxes seriously aren't that hard unless you itemize, takes 15 min

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I itemized this year and it was really easy as well. I have always just printed the forms and mailed them in. Helps me understand the system

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do my taxes for free via Credit Karma. H&R Block and other tax prep services that charge can eat shit. I pay $0 to file fed and state.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean the government doesnt know. You filled out your W4 and told them and now you have to fix it. Also take some time on Youtube or 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Something to learn how to file your taxes. If youre a single income earner then its pretty easy.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude, go to the irs website. Tons of options for efile. It was really easy to find a legitimately free option, state and fed

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are free filing services unless you make too much money, in which case you probably benefit from looking at the details.

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

If you're below a certain wage level (like $29,999, maybe?), go to the IRS website and hunt around until you can find the free file option

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

max is 72k for the full service, but even above that you can file for free, you just have to do a bit more work

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like the discounts, and I’m not sure the gov would know about them unless I fill some form.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is your typical oversimplified BS on the web. Ifyou want the government to surveil every source of income and control everything,.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Basic tax prep for a wage earner is free. What credits you choose to claim is also up to you. Only people with complicated taxes need help.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck TurboTax sideways.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Freetaxusa. It's a free turbo tax. Been using it for years

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So when I finally incorporated my business and went from a sole proprietor to an S-Corp I was both thrilled and appalled and how little 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was required to pay in taxes. My tax burden went down by like $8000. 2/2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Much of this is because you aren't paying as much into Social Security and Medicare anymore (FICA).

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Freetaxusa.com. Free fed e-file and a small state file fee for anything

4 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Myfreetaxes.com - both federal and state free.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Easy solution here is to stop using TurboTax. I'm an accountant who hates filing his own taxes and I haven't paid for tax software in years.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are free options. I use Credit Karma. I have a coworker who uses FreeTaxUSA. Most people could file on paper.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Credit karma is free. Like actually free, not the "free" that turbo tax offers for only 1 year

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Usually use the IRS and my states filing, but used Credit Karma Tax this year because of extra forms I had no clue how to fill out lol

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Forms for 401k taxes and whatnot, had to take some out of it last year

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How is absolute fuck is that legal?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

In the same way that bribery is legal in the US... sorry lobbying.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Govt doesn't know what your deductibles are, or any assets you might have sold or acquired during the year. Max Berger isn't very smart

Yeah. US taxes are legit complicated. And with a country of 350mil, it’s stupid to think the Gov should do them for us.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

https://www.taxslayer.com/ I only paid about $100 to do mine here. with all the small business BS that's required.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I've been using FreeTaxUsa for years and I'm pretty happy with it for everything including Schedule C.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh, thanks for the tip!

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They and H&R block hide it but are required to offer a free version. If you dont have a personal accountant it probably will work 4 u

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Most people also don't qualify for it.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh see i figured it would work for anyone who doesn't own a business.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If they told you what they know, you wouldn't report the rest.

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 8

As opposed to people willingly reporting what the government doesn’t know about?

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure I understand, but a lot of freelancers under-report income.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My point exactly. Whether they they tell you what you owe or you do your own taxes, nobody is going to report anything off the books.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's why I like cash tips when I DoorDash. It's not recorded anywhere. And it can get better food for my kids. I got a $20 from a guy I

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

delivered a pizza. Used it to get my kids burgers that night, and had some left over for gas.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

had a friend that was gonna do that for their dd driver once, but guess since she didnt say she was tipping in the app they took over 2hours

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Living in New Zealand, it's great just having all taxes sorted for you, and no tipping. You basically just pay what's shown, easy

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

What happens if you have deductibles? The government wouldn't know about that

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Same in The Netherlands, and I assume most of Europe

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It is absolutely free, and not that difficult, to file your taxes directly with the IRS. HR also offers free filing for most standard claims

4 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 27

Look at Mr. Accountant Who Understands Legal Jargon And Tax Code Over Here making it look easy.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 13

The rules are right there for you to grab too

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

This is mostly inaccurate

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

No, they don't. If you are filing small business stuffs, it's about $400. We need Schedule C. :/

4 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 6

I just want to say that Schedule C can be done for free as well. Just not at H&R.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If I had a clue how to on my own, I may do that in the future.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I use Freetaxusa, right in the browser. Easily carries over info from year to year as well. Something to consider for the future.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You told me already, but will do that in the future, for sure. I gotta report this year yet. The joys of a small business. :/

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think op meant personal filingd.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

For most places, it's only free if you have like, an absolute bare-bones basic return. Anything else, they upcharge you. And, while I'd /1

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

how many people need to file anything beyond a basic return though? especially with the increased standard deduction

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Enough people to keep the entire tax preparation industry in business. Farmers, contract workers (potentially), anyone with an HSA, if /1

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you sold any stocks/investments, or took money out of a retirement plan/account... any one of dozens of small things could do it. 2/2

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

say figuring out your taxes is easier than most people give it credit for (the IRS actually does tend to do pretty good at explaining the /2

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

different forms and deductions and stuff on their website), it's not something that many people really have the time to figure out. 3/3

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The government doesn't tell you because companies like turbo tax offer their service for free. What? Oh sorry no you don't qualify for it.

4 years ago | Likes 284 Dislikes 11

They also tell you that you don't qualify after an hour of bullshit

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

It's pretty weird... Last year, I was able to do my taxes, for free, via the irs.gov website. This year? It gave me TurboTax and H&RBlock..

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just use credit karma... I do at least. Got $5k back this year

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What in the sweet jesus??? I never get more than $5-600 back a year. I would literally commit a crime to get an extra $5k.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have a kid :) I've always gotten 1500+ though.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Frequently, literal crime generates profits far in excess of $5k lol

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, being too poor for food healthcare and having a flex account to cover health expenses excludes you from free. Gotta make enough to

4 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 1

Afford the good healthcare plans or leave your ass hanging out medically to get the free service.

4 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

The gov doesn’t tell you because small gov advocates realized if you add up your bill it hurts more, making tax cuts easier to pass.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well no it is free if you make it threw the mini game without pressing the wrong button

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TurboTax sneaks in so many prices and shit it's ridiculous. You finish your taxes and out of nowhere they tack on 80 dollars.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not actually true, but it's fun to think a conspiracy that big could go without someone flapping their kisser about it.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Well, I'll be monkeys uncle

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had heard this was a deal with the IRS. They wouldn't start their own free tax system as long as other companies offer a free option.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But I can't find anything on it right now...so

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They have free services theyre just super hard to find and use

4 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 4

Creditkarma tax was free and easy.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

www.freetaxusa.com is free you only pay $14.99 for state filing. I have used it for years.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

14.99 isn't free tho

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They’re on the IRS website. They just change from year to year which is annoying

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Www.irs.gov will have free state specific filing sites that are free. It cost me 37.50 for my state filing :)

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I’m confused. $37.50 isn’t free?!

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

My state was free as well. It was just the worst designed site ever.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

State vs. federal. Federal is free all state taxes will have a fee most likely.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They only mentioned state so I was confused! Like- where are people getting free state filing?! Thank you!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

State taxes cost the 37.50. Federal was free.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the clarification!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are so, so, sooo many absolutely fucked aspects of the American society I was totally unaware of before I joined Imgur.

4 years ago | Likes 1237 Dislikes 22

Which perfect country do you live in?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Ignorance is truly blissful, as long as you don't go around putting your ignorance on others!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Everything is a god damn industry.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same here. As a child I was so jealous of American lifestyles. Now I see USA as a backwards, dengerous country.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I thought of this when a Canadian Twitch streamer joked about running on a platform of paying taxes for free.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No country is innocent

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is build with sole purpose of extracting money from the guillible

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All societies ate corrupt

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How we are gonna convince people escapes me. Looks like we wait for the die off.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Remember to take things with a grain of salt, so to say. Everything seems really extreme when you're seeing it through media. :)

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Part of being an adult is learning how to deal with the media.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fair to some extent but one function of government IMO is to stabilize and make life more predictable for people by eliminating edge cases.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Heck, the upvotes for you (and downvotes for me) just demonstrate how people come here to wallow in misery. Save yourself if you can.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I do not come here to wallow in misery! I come here to watch cute shit and interesting shit, and downvote the rest

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Buckle up princess, this shit show ain't over yet!!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We're a country whose entire ethos is blind greed.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

To be fair, If you make under 72k a year its free. So its not all bad. Sauce: https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

They do their best to bury the free options tho because providing a free service isn’t profitable.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The point here is not the cost of filing, but rather all of the information has been collected from your employer and presented to done.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same. It makes me hate being American.

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I once had alcohol poisoning and got charged $2,000 for a bag of saline and an hour in a hospital chair.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Donating plasma would have been about the same, and you could have got like 50 bucks and no debt.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And the list goes on... and on... and... can we just overthrow these corrupt asshats yet?

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

People complaining about aLL tHiS PoLiTiCaL stUfF wanna keep you in the dark about it too

4 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 8

I want to see less, but also agree everyone should see it, where does that put me?

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I wanted to know it until I realised that nothing would ever be done about it and the bad guys will always win.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fucked with the rest of us, mate.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

The one thing Imgur will do is give you a non-stop stream of pessimism. That doesn't make it true, though.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 57

You are not wrong and the downvotes, ironically, kinda prove you right. Social media is where objectivism goes to die. x_x

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 10

Ok but the turbo tax thing is true.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Who said that it wasn't?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

They are a powerful and wealthy lobby.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That they lobby? Sure. That you have to go through them? Absolutely not. Ironically this post is effectively advertising for them.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 14

Ugh you’re right re the advertising!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"TurboTax turns what the government should be doing for free into a paid service" "Fake news!"

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

There are lots of free tax services. If you're telling people they have to go through TurboTax then yes, "fake news".

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

Idk if anyone said that tho

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ironic considering that your initial comment is also something that nobody said.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Sure there are. If you want to spend more time on it. TurboTax lobbies to make it so you have the choice of paying money or paying time.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Other places without such powerful businesses and open bribery/lobbying make it easy because there's no reason besides greed not to.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok but the US is pretty fucked for real tho

4 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 3

Did I mention "non-stop"?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 13

Are you dumb or just ignorant

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Who said that it wasn't?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

You should see what a deductible means for health insurance. ?

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

As someone with a lot of health problems and absolutely amazing health insurance... I still spend about 10k a year. Fuck American greed.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Spoiler: it means that you “have insurance” but still have to pay for everything yourself.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Only when you pay the deductible amount can you get insurance money for medical care. Oh and its an anual deductible.

And you just don't have to do anything unless your salary drastically changes one way or other.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We don’t have a flat tax and get deductions for certain expenses. So you make 50k, but only 30k of it may be taxable. It ain’t that hard.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some businesses in the US do that as well. Thats part of why some small businesses prefer cash, that and merchant fees

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There’s a LOT of extra factors that can go into an American tax form, and a lot of it involved into the IRS doesn’t have access to, >

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Forced compliance. Pinko commie

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I could explain the American system, but that's no fun. But yeah, we do shit the hard way. All the time.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They do that, but only what you ask, so you better estimate close to reality or you'll either owe or overpay.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's the same in the US. At the end of the year you get a statement with how much you made and how much they withheld. The thing...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...that might make it complicated is if you spent money on things that are tax deductible or have tax credits. Then you have to do a few...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...minutes of primary school arithmetic before sending it in. For most people, the whole process is <10-20 minutes once a year.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Since they made it a law that tax preparers have to offer free federal filing, most people just do it online and skip even the arithmetic.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup! The irony of the U.S. preaching to other Countries -- on a litany of topics -- is beyond comical.

4 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

What does your country do if you pay a part time nanny in cash and you want to write it off as child care expense?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't understand why y'all get to have nice things but we (USA) can't. What the hell is wrong with us

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Serious question, how does non-wage income get taxed? Like bank interest or capital gains from selling stock?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's probably a flat tax for them.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

In the US there's capital gains taxes you pay in addition to income taxes. Over 500k is like 42% if I remember correctly

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Maybe for short term capital gains (stocks sold less than 1 year of purchase). Long term capital gains I think is capped at 21%. Possibly 28

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You get a form from your brokerage you plug in and they say you owe xyz

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Okay, so in a way that's part of a USA tax return, you owe all that extra tax paid annually. When would you send in your extra?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's .. What we do too

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Glad I live in a country that let's me file for free because I don't make enough money

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The IRS subsidizes free file systems, but if you need to declare certain kinds of income it requires you to pay out the nose. Ex: my return

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

suddenly cost $125 (state + federal) because I had $6 of "Broker/exchange" income related to trying out P2P lending years ago.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was skeptical of it at first, but Credit Karma has always free filing, even with brokerage fees. I've used them the last 2 years

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mean the software you chose to help you with your return cost $125, right? Filing is free...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1) they tell you it’s not gonna be free when you’re almost finished in situations like this 2) filing is de facto not free because most >

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, the free e-file program through H&R Block suddenly requires you to pay $125. Still free to copy everything and mail out paper forms.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So I'm legitimate curious, how do they account for all the tax credits? Do you have to tell them?

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

My experience is you can simply ask what tax returns are owed to you, and they'll reimburse you. Never had any hassles.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Denmark: The Gov. register a lot of it, so only if you have non-public debt, drive to work or tax-avoid do you really have to do extra work.

Yes, but you don’t know them all, so you sometimes pay an accountant to find them for you. Which they don’t bother with all the time.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s another way the rich get richer- they can afford to find the best accountants to find “credits”

In Australia, your employment earnings are all recorded as well as how much tax they take and how much tax they should have taken etc and >

Same in NL.

< then during tax season you can make adjustments if it's wrong (or if you had some non-recorded income or whatever) and then just list >

< your deductibles like uniforms, if you have a work phone/car etc as well as any charitable donations, then it calculates it all for you.

I should add this is all recorded by and filled out on just a government run website, you can pay someone to do it for you and they will >

Why Americans put up with the bullshit they do… I have no idea. Freedom my ass.

4 years ago | Likes 153 Dislikes 6

Because changing it is hard and the other half of the people that would like it don't understand the path they need to take.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because patriotism is just a nicer way of saying blind nationalism

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cos they've been conditioned since child birth to honour the flag and government etc.

4 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 5

Also dont you love it when yourr hated by ypur peers when it doesnt work as well on you? When you start to point out cracks in the system?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s not even that, that’s half, the other half doesn’t have enough power to fight both corps and the dumb half.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know, it’s fucking insane. I like America, I got married in San Diego as well but Jesus Christ I’m glad I don’t live there.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Where do you live

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

UK. Not saying we don’t have our issues, but America is… confusing. Guns. Trump. No tax included in prices. Pledging allegiance in schools.

Portion of our population is easily manipulated, and we can’t change shit cause nobody on top is willing to listen and take action. We are

Quite literally stuck with these policy’s because our voice is not being heard.

Savings interest and investments don't get taxed directly, mortgage interest is tax deductible. There's tons of reasons to file taxes.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, they do that. They take too much, then you have to send them the forms to request the rest back. And make sure you request enough.

4 years ago | Likes 441 Dislikes 4

Its relatively easy in germany. As a private person, you can put like everything in there, if its wrong you just dont get the amount back.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If there was an error, you dont really get in trouble, as privat people cant know all laws.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on your withholding. I had to try and explain to a few families that if they didn’t fix their withholding, they’d end up >

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

>owing several thousand dollars once their next eldest child turned 17 and they lost another $2K worth of Child Tax Credit.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Damn, in Finland its all automatic and they pay you back + interest. All you have to do is to say how much you make in a year (+deductibles)

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That's kinda on you and how you filled out your w4, too. I eye ball it and get pretty close to breaking even.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't have to request it. They just deposit the surplus back automatically.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The gov't doesn't do that. Your employer does it based on the selections you make when you fill out the paperwork. You don't have to do that

4 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 45

Depends on where the withholdings are coming from. Employers are not the only ones who withhold.egState unemployment systems and student aid

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

You’re being downvoted but I have learned the hard way it’s definitely your employer in combo with withholdings. I owed $9200 federal bc my

Employer under collected even with 0 dependents. Had a damn near heart attack when I did my taxes. Made worse when I paid for a second perso

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

N to do them because I thought the first one had to be wrong

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Right on the first half, wrong about not having to do it except in very specific circumstances, ie you will owe no tax and owed none last yr

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you claim exempt on a W4 or a high number of allowances to avoid accurate deductions it is a crime.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fair enough, I ran out of characters and didn't want to follow up

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But not tooooo much... Or SURPRISE BUTTFUCKINGAUDIT

4 years ago | Likes 256 Dislikes 0

I got audited due to TT filing my taxes differently after I'd reviewed. Fucked me for three years trying to pay the fines.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I mean you could probably not file at all since withholdings are enough, what are they gonna do, audit you and give you money?

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yes. They do sometimes, actually.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

But only for the poor people. The rich people paying no taxes, on the other hand, don't get audited

4 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 5

I’m on my phone so I can’t search for the data, but your likelihood to be audited goes up exponentially the more money you make

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 14

That's simply untrue. The IRS has gone on record as saying they don't audit high wealth individuals as the legal costs to do so are too high

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It costs too much money, and the IRS doesn't have enough manpower or legal staff to audit the rich. This is by design.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get your point....but the IRS isn't bothering to audit poor/normal/upper-middle-class people.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 15

Hahaha no I got audited make under the middle class higher limits.... IRS only audits the middle class with property...

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

They do bother to audit people who can't pay lawyers to put up a fight.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I think biden has said he wants to fund the irs more so they can afford to go after rich people more

4 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Yeah but with that extra funding they could go after so many more poor people. The goal is to fuck up peoples lives, right?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I really hope so. I'm tired of them getting away with it.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0
