So like...deaf people can drive?...like I legit thought you had to be able to hear police and such?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That face of sheer terror, when you realize as a dog, you will never be able to hear that you're a good girl.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Misread, thought it said "started using threats," could not see why this would be uplifting.

My deaf dog, THE BEAST

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Neighbor had deaf Dalmatians that understood sign language! She'd sign "get off the couch" and they'd just look away.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

How do you get the dog to make hand gestures? ????

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

WHAT?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My white pibble is deaf, bonus doesn't wake up for every little sound, he's a good boy. Happy dog.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know someone with three adopted deaf pit bulls. Once you show interest in one, people just keep giving them to you I guess

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't dogs find hand signals easier to understand anyway? ==> http://imgur.com/user/Jamarce

My Springer was as deaf as a stump. Total shit as a guard dog. Best friend I ever had.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Heard about a dachshund, born w/o legs, tragic. Had no name, as owner said: He doesn't come when I call him anyway!!

27 year old dude here just cried... Never cries at anything imgur related. But deaf dogs man, I just can't handle it...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Agreed

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had a deaf dog, I don't know sign language, but we quickly learned our own language. Dogs are amazing.

That looks like a boxer but hey, Go little girl, go!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

A lot of PitBull breeds are mixed breeds because places dont allow pit bulls but allow mixbreeds

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

People don't care if it's full breed or not. If it has some pitbull, then it's a concern. I'm a pitbull mix owner & finding apartments sucks

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They aren't mixed so they get homes, they're mixed because they're so common and people don't fix their pets.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Don't you know those are dangerous!?!? Humans start bloody, horrific wars for no reason!!!!!

I try to make this circular reference as often as possible

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can you explain it to me please ?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Don't understand why you or @FranoUnAmerican got downvoted. I always wonderd to for a long time. Thank you :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't dogs find hand signals easier to understand anyway?

9 years ago | Likes 416 Dislikes 3

Teaching my 3 dogs hand signals because they don't understand my toddlers comands. They are learning faster than they learned voice comands.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think so, but it does depend on the dog. My dog does better with signals, her sister does better w/ spoken commands. Training matters too

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dog always responded to auditory signals about equal to visual ones. Snap your fingers or whistle and she'd be right on your heels.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We taught our lab/pit mix her commands with verbal and visual signals. Kind of thinking ahead to when she might lose her hearing.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I taught my shih tzu hand signals in addition to verbal commands. He's better with the hand signals 9/10

9 years ago | Likes 148 Dislikes 0

That was the same with my dog

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same for my Pomeranians mixes. Although they ignore my commands to stop barking...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Taught my Commander the same way.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I taught my westie verbal commands with accompanying hand signals. He always responds to hand signals with or without verbal now

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't doubt it! We taught my dog the hand signals in order to teach her verbal commands. Definitely makes it easier

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

My dogs know that the peace sign means sit and wait. When I drop my hand, they are released from the command. Such good dogs

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yup. Both of my dogs are hearing but GF and I sign to them and they listen to that far better

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup. My boyf used to train dogs. His ones always respond as I'm moving my hand to make the gesture, before i've even opened my mouth

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

He's trained you well then.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not as well trained as those dogs yet :p we drive up to the gate, they see he is in the car and they sit. They're such angels!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I use hand gestures too, haven't used voice commands in a long time (unless outside, like "come here")

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep!

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Huh. TIL. Would've thought hand signals would be harder. Not sure why I thought that.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably because for humans it's more natural to verbally communicate what we want from one another, rather than through gestures etc.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lot of tricks can be taught by leading the dog with a treat. The motion becomes the command.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My dogs just picked stuff up, I never really taught it. Sit (1 finger up), lay down (flat hand facing ground) and high five (take a guess)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My dog knows both. Hand signals just don't worth work a crap if your dog is 300m away unfortunately.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, my smartass mix of two hunting dogs listens mostly when i use hand signmas instead of voice commands.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on the breed. Even with voice commands certain dogs respond to different ranges better than others.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yup. Dogs don't have a verbal language, but they do have body language. Sign language is closer to what they know.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Found another

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't get it

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

My dog does. Every command I have for him has a hand signal. Until this post, I didn't even realize I'd taught him that way.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It just seemed the natural thing to do at the time.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My dogs just picked stuff up, I never really taught it. Sit (1 finger up), lay down (flat hand facing ground) and high five (take a guess)

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

high five standing both paws (both hands together), stay (flat hand facing dog), go there (point).. I just happen to do it instinctively..

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh and 2 finger wiggle means dance. Our little pekingese did that for attention when she was young now she does it to make us smile. :D

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have a deaf dog. She is pretty much the same as a fully functional dog except she does't listen to anyone.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dog can only hear a potato chip bag opening. Other than that, completely deaf

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So is a cat, but a dog at the same timw.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, she's a cat?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... that's not any different than my dog.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had a deaf dog. She never barked.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I imagine you have to be careful and keep her on leash anytime you're around traffic.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You implied there is a difference, bit then you described two things that aren't different.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So a cat.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so she's a cat?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh you have a dachshund?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like a cat

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My old boy (RIP) was deaf and arthritic. Until somebody DOWNSTAIRS dropped the tiniest scrap of something edible on the kitchen floor.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit. I think my wife is deaf. All these years and I never knew.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

My wife is holding her sides after she heard me read your comment . She is decidedly not deaf.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Is it safe to say Walk around her, though?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm curious, does she bark?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My uncle has a deaf dog and yes he does bark

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have u tried to install audio driver and restart your dog?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So she's the same as my dog only deaf.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds like a cat.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Soooo...a cat? ????

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds like a cat

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Souns like a cat

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

My dog was born without legs. He doesn't have a name because he won't come when I call him.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So a cat?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So... a cat?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

So you have a cat...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

What does the bark sound like? Asking for a friend...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dog isn't deaf but he also doesn't listen...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So essentially you have a cat lol

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I have a deaf cat. She wasn't always deaf. She's more skittish now. I have to bang on things around her to get her attention.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

No wonder she's deaf and skittish now!!! I would be too if you always banged on things to get my attention!

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

She hides under the bed. I have to bang on the bed to get her to come eat breakfast. And she's skittish bc we have 5 cats and a dog.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dog pretends he's deaf sometimes, but by God does he know when you've put your fork down to finish a meal!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

So you mean a better version of a cat

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Sounds like my non deaf husky

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so you have a cat

9 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 1

CatDog

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*Sigh* Take my point...

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My dog is deaf too but She cannot be without another dog, she becomes very anxious and goes around in circles until she finds company.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My dog has selective hearing problems. He can't hear me call him but he can hear the treat bag rustle through closed doors.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

... does she bark like deaf-from-birth humans sound when they talk?

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I work with a deaf guy that goes to special elocution classes. He speaks so well but it's just a little off, clients ask what his accent is.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I had a dog that became blind and deaf later in life, but somehow she still knew you were calling for her or patting your leg to pet her

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So, exactly the same as my dog. She does what she wants.

9 years ago | Likes 675 Dislikes 1

Oh no, how could that happen?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, my pibble can hear everything except me telling her to get out of the kitchen while I'm cooking

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

I have the same issue...and when I'm in the laundry room

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I figured out a while ago I am not the Alpha of the pack lol.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I went through that struggle w/her & she sees me as alpha male now. (Mostly centered around who sat in my chair.) My wife...still not.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most likely poorly trained then. Dogs are not like cats.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was gonna up vote this comment, but it's at 666 and I don't wanna ruin that.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Might not be your fault depending on when you got her, but dogs are domesticated. If you're consistent in your actions you can train them.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I am & we have the basics down. She's an adult adoption (history unknown) & she's a breed known for being strong willed.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She definitely has some stuff in her past that we've been working out and she is a sweet dog. Just gets her mind set on stuff sometimes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah we have a 5yr. Old husky X who mysteriously forgets his name and is an escape artist. He loves us but hates rules.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ours knows her name, looks back over her shoulder, then trots on to check out what caught her interest. Then she'll come back, satisfied.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So, a cat.

9 years ago | Likes 207 Dislikes 1

So, a cat.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Come to think of it she never has cared for belly rubs. Prefers behind the ears scratching. So.... maybe.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My cat comes when i call her. She then whines loudly until I point out that there's still food in her dish but I like to think she likes me.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So, a wife.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cats can navigate by listening to things, which is pretty cool.

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Yah! Like when mine navigates the opposite direction when she hears me calling her back inside!

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Indeed, cats are good at that, regardless of how good they can see

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a cat with fully functioning hearing, verified by thunder and treat bag opening who may as well be stone deaf when I give commands.

9 years ago | Likes 214 Dislikes 1

mine does high-five if I bribe him first

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sounds like this asshole

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I have a Maine Coon, so basically a very furry orange dog. He knows his name and comes running when you call him, and begs for belly rubs.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I have another cat who, if I acknowledge his presence in any way, runs out of the room. He was born and raised in my house. Bastard.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So you have a cat?

9 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 0

I trained my adopted older cat to high five, stand up and respond when I whistle :) Plays fetch too

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I trained a kitten to give high fives. It stopped being cute when she started using claw.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
