Okay It's not the Bible just all three Lord of the Rings books fused together to make one big LOTR super book

It would be great if this was in motel rooms.

I have the same book! I told my super catholic mom it was my bible and she freaked on me!

Call me when you got the silmarillion next to your bed!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

To be fair, there is a lot of Catholic theology in there.

I'm super jealous. I've been drooling over that exact edition for the past 3 years, but I've never had the cash and I already own 2 lotr bks

I have Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, it literally looks like a bible....

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

"one big LOTR super book", 99% of the edition are one collected book, yes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't the simarillon be the Bible?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Lord of the Rings is one story written as six books and a set of appendices. It is usually (but not always) published in three volumes.

(The Velvet cover edition I mean)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lol I have it and it makes a fantastic addition to any shelf

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Silmarillion would be the Bible of Tolkien's universe

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Fuck, I'm due for another reading. It's been a couple of years.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Am i the only one who see the spinner on the cover?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have the same copy. I love it!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Hey mine too! But my book is much more best up and not as pretty.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

That doesn't look that big. How small is the print? Or is it abridged?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

It's about 1,200 pages give or take. There's a bunch of maps of middle earth in the back plus a timeline of the second age.

I have that same version! And the leather bound version of the hobbit made to look like Bilbo's notebook.

I keep the Complete Fiction of H.P. Lovecraft by my bed.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I keep it on my phone.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sweet dreams.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn... You sleep with a freakin' library?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's your New Testament, pal. The complete works of JRR Tolkien would be the Bible

8 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 3

Where can I find this magical piece of literature?!

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

All three books were originally supped to be one book, but I believe his editor(?) said to break it into three.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you haven't read it, check out The Silmarillion. It's absolutely amazing.

I love that the LotR is like 3 lines in that book, just showing the scale of the world he created.

the book of lost tales part II is my personal fave

Oh boy, looks like I have a lot of reading to do.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait, what is this?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are they in chronological order?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That stack lacks The Children of Turin, which is my favorite.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

That's included in the book of lost tales part II, hence why it is my favorite :)

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Is it really? I actually don't have either of the books of lost tales. Gotta step up my Tolkien game

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Technically they were supposed to be there parts, to one book. So it's actually just "The Lord of the Rings".

8 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 5

Three*

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

True. His publishers forced him to break the story into three parts because of the high cost of paper back in the day.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I knew they forced him, but didn't know why. As a life long Tolkien fan, thank you for TIL

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He wanted 6 books. They made him jam it into 3 because of the scarcity of paper due to the ongoing war effort.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get out of here with your logic and making sense.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I am a huge lotr fan, read it once a year, several lotr tats and all lol. Superfan

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It's amazing. I wish there was a way to bring Tolkien back from the dead just so he can continue writing stories about middle earth.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One novel, three volumes, six books.

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Been telling people this for years. People always forget the 6 books part

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But if they're six books why are they usually published as three books?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If I recall, publishers didn't want to commit funds for 6 book publications, and didn't think people would buy/read 1 massive book.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Three *volumes*. Historically, a book was (also) a major subdivision of a literary work, above chapters. LotR is always divided into 6 books

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is then usually published as three volumes of two books each (also originally), or one large volume.
