Got my new baby

Jan 31, 2018 10:29 AM

May not mean much to a lot of people, but after years of wanting one, I finally picked up my first V8 ute! For those of you not familiar, Its a 2005 Holden Commodore - the US saw the coupe as a Pontiac GTO, and Europe had it in a sedan as the Vauxhall VXR.

But I digress, this one's the Aussie built NZ version, she's a 5.7 RWD V8, and most importantly, it's MINE!

Nice

Meanwhile, South Africans just think you have weird-looking bakkies.

Look at the rack on that thing!

is that a surfboard holder?

I've always thought those were badass. I'd rather have the car version but I certainly wouldn't turn the ute down

@OP Didn't those also come AWD?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah, there is a double cab AWD and a wagon version too

Cool, how did you get one Stateside?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I didn't - I'm in New Zealand...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why are there poles on the front?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably belongs/ed to a tradesman that used long lengths of wood or pipe or whatever

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wouldn’t that block his vision tho

I wish these would have made it to the US. I would have gladly purchased one. Buddy had a GTO with 6.0l another has a G8 GT in Stryker blue

GM could have rebadged this as a Chevrolet El Camino. They considered it. I have no idea who axed the plan but I hope they were fired.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't know why they were never sold there, I'm sure they would have been popular. Practical without being as big as the F series etc

It would have cost less than the Silverado and hurt the bottom line. Same reason they killed the small pickup in the US.

There have been so many rumors of them reviving the nameplate also. Except they aren't making the zeta platform anymore are they?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a fail by GM - they could have done a LHD version and used it to revive the El Camino name, instead they released it as a Pontiac 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah we got the GTO which was the coupe commodore if I'm thinking of the right Holden. The G8 was the sedan commodore right?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

GTO in a coupe version only.

Looks half mustang and half truck at first glance. Definitely unique. What's up with that front guard? Enjoy the torque!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We don't have pickup trucks down here. We have utes. They're cars with a tray. Well, they were. Now they're all being replaced with Hilux.

Last car was a 4 cyl 2.0 Toyota... The torque is AMAZING! Not sure what you mean about the guard tho... style? colour? or the racks?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm guessing they are asking about what I think are lumber racks behind the bull bar in the front?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Think he/she/apacheheliproter means the rack.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The racks..get that bullshit off there

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Front and rear racks lift off and the nudge bar can unbolt too, but it's damn hand for lengths of steel - can carry 6 meters

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Rebar?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm a trailer fabricator BTW, needed the ute to carry all the odd crap I need during the day

Nice. The motor an LS1?
